I grew up shopping there. The main doors have not changed, the outside addition was added in the 80’s. The Weis was as you entered the mall on the right, the boarded up windows were of the bakery. You could see all the baking going on. I remember my mom lifting me so I could see, and the lady waving to me. Where the theater is, was Leigh’s. And in front was a fountain…. To the left of that was the hall in the center hall was Orange Julius, all the stores, Woolworth, spencer, and an old time popcorn wagon, filled the area with wonderful smells. The hall led to Sears. The movie theater was actually down the hall where the two windows are on the right. I have so many great memories shopping there. We would always go to Clover which became Caldor in later years for our back to school clothes…. It was so sad to see it closed….

I was there as a child for the opening in 1966. It was a wonderland of the modern and the future. Sad to see it's current condition, but I still love to see some parts just as I remember them from almost 60 years ago. Yes, that stairway and the mall facade of the Plaza Theater are just as I remember them.

Great video! Grew up going to this mall in the 80s and 90s and I remember the interior very well….I miss the old fountains that it had. Clover was a great store…basically like a Target-type department store (but no groceries). Actually got the talking Freddy Krueger doll at that Clover (also got one at the old Clover store in the nearby Palmer Mall in Palmer Township, PA). I wanna say we went to the theater here once or twice as well when I was younger…I definitely remember wanting to see Dangerous Minds there and recall peering into the lobby from within the mall. Sometime in ‘93/‘94, I remember hanging out in Whitehall Mall and thinking that the architecture and decor was similar to the Monroeville Mall as it appeared in Dawn of the Dead…specifically the entrance to the portion that still remains and the area near where the Weis market used to be. Seeing that staircase and the blue paint up by the mall offices is a definite unlocked memory too! Has not changed from the way I remember it and I probably havent been in there in 25yrs!

Just some info from what I know. There used to be a gym where the Plaza was. I remember going to the comic store about 5-6 years ago and seeing a gym there. Same with the food court, I believe it was closed like 5-7 years ago. Bed Bath and Beyond also towards the end had what was essentially a pharmacy in it (minus getting prescriptions filled) to go with the Bed Bath and Beyond. That flooring place is brand new because last time I was there last year it wasn't even started yet. Until 2023, this mall/plaza was actually doing well, I mean all things considered but closure of those outside stores hurt it. Will they get more tenants, I don't know, but I would assume they would because it's still on a busy property. It's sad to see this fade away but Lehigh Valley Mall is so much more modern, it was bound to happen.

I think you are confused with Hess's and the Patio Restaurant. That was world famous for their Strawberry Pie. H. Leh Co. was here and in downtown Allentown as well. My wife worked at the downtown store for a few years and thew restaurant there was the 1760 Room in the basement and the Lemon Tree snack bar on the 1st floor. I loved the mall before the Lehigh Valley Mall opened 10 years later. The Whitehall mall had a large Bird aviary in the main concourse and great fountains in front of Leh's/Zollinger's before then. Also Percy Brown's cafeteria and the Woolworth's restaurant were always favorites! Also in the video, the empty store there was an Arby's restaurant.

Ooh, him been to _Ahlentahn!_ I'm checking with Lehigh Valley with Love Media on the pronunciation of one of the businesses... Leh's might be like "Lay's," not "Lee's"... Next to Bela Bridal at one time were restaurants, Arby's was one (one of the first Arby's in PA was on southbound MacArthur Road (PA 145) pretty close to the mall)... Clover was a discount chain offshoot of Philadelphia big-box retailer Strawbridge & Clothier (later shortened to Strawbridge's when the May Company, whose heritage was absorbed into Macy's Inc., acquired them in 1996; as Strawbridge's they briefly ran one of the large stores in the nearby Lehigh Valley Mall, where there originally also was a Bamberger's (later rebranded as Macy's); when Macy's further consolidated in the 2000s, the Strawbridge's was unloaded to Reading-based Boscov's, who continue to run it to this day); Clover had at least three locations in the Valley including Palmer Park Mall closer to me near Easton, which today is a Boscov's. I've bought clothes and electronics from that Clover. The one on the far end close to Grape Street was absolutely a Michael's! You got it! It looks like they demolished the Old Country Buffet restaurant. I adored that place, used to give me a free meal on my birthday!

I've lived in the LV for 20 years, I had NEVER been in this place until about a year ago to go into the Kohls. The whole place has a weird vibe to it, even the Kohls feels different and less well stocked than other Kohls I've been to. It's especially odd as it is so close to the current Lehigh Valley mall, right across the street close. But I do love finding these relics of a bygone time, like the old Woolworth's sign that is still up on Main St. in Bethlehem.

I used to frequent this mall as a kid, and for a young kid it had some great shops at one time, I am talking mid 90's. However, another thing that "killed" this mall was definitely the mall across the street, they were getting a lot more cooler stores while this mall just kept to the ground floor retail. Which as you can see is only what, 6 stores. I saw Power Rangers movie at the theatre and that was 90's and the theatre still had one of those coin operated 80's batman car kids would ride as it moved back and forth. The space would eventually become a Gold's Gym which did well, but those all recently closed. At 4:56 that store you focused on was at one time a McDonald's. It was always busy, but once they built the one behind the mall, its on the main drag of MacArthur Road, this one closed which was right around the time the mall started its decline. Comic Masters has been there for years, and is now probably one of the only good comic shops in the Lehigh Valley, the guy that works there could probably give me a lot of info since I think that shop has been there the longest. It had to be since the late 90's. I hope, whatever the plans are for that mall, since already Sears and Old Country Buffet is knocked down, that the comic shop still keeps a spot. A pet store has always been in this mall also. I could be wrong but that SMP store was a Dollar Tree originally, but that closed and has been weird knock off dollar stores that, well, for all anyone knows was a front for some other business. These later stores never made any sense. At about 5:13 that store was like a convivence store that had chips, soda, etc, but I think what kept it going was lottery and cigarettes, that's been gone for years. The outside did have Micheal's, but they moved down the road a few years ago to where Baby R' Us was, makes you think that they got because they knew the place is dead. However that spot always would become a Spirit Halloween, not sure if that is the case this year. Even though that side of the mall is dead compared to Lehigh Valley Mall, at one point that side was lively, as I said late 90's early 00's, Sears was still going strong there was a Borders that I was at almost every weekend and the Old Country Buffet was always packed. Circuit City was to the right of the mall, which is now thift shop and over a little more was Toys R Us. However, things change and that area, even though growing, needs a huge revamp with retail in certain spots. However, I would put money on a lot of retail will eventually get knocked down and be made into warehouses or apartments, but that is just my two sense having lived in the area my whole life until recently moving. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3raaat8hLpof68 this video shows what it was 4 years ago.

Clover stores were a division of the Strawbridge & Clothier store in Philadelphia, PA. They opened several stores in the S. Jersey area and southeastern PA areas. They were similar to Target stores. After the S&Clothier stores were sold to the May Co. in 1995, they then sold some of their stores to Kohls as the entered the eastern US markets. Kohls the took it over in 97. The store had a big sale a few times a year called "Clover Days".

Walpole Mall (Walpole, MA) way worse. Half of it was turned into strip mall stores, the other half makes this mall look alive. There was just an arcade, a Barnes & Nobile, and a run-down rug store. There was also a gymnastics setup in the anchor space next to Barnes. It was so small, I had to pad my video out with some footage in the bookstore, the restroom, and a walk in the arcade to see what games it had. I know I've mentioned this before in another video as a place to visit, but as a pit stop towards someplace else as it was so small, but the deadness was epic.

This place used to be great, and I don't even remember it in its Glory Days! I'm 29 and was born in 1995. I believe the first movie I saw was at the Plaza, which I do remember. I shopped at Sears a lot and I miss eating at the Old Country Buffet that used to be in the outside portion! The Weis Market I miss also, it was spectacular and had Neon inside! There also used to be a Boston Market on the outside portion. There was a Hallmark on the outside, a Zainybrainy. The snack shop I remember eating at when I was a teenager. I find it interesting the Pet Store seemed to have changed names. It had an orange neon sign that said "The Pet Shop" for the LONGEST time. I believe when I was a child there was a Gymboree in there I used to go to as well. It's very strange so many of the stores there appear closed when the mall is open. I do not have any recollection of the bigger inside part or the older stores that were there, although I wish I did. I'll have to get the link for you but I have pictures saved, somebody on Reddit took pictures of the upstairs. On the inside there used to be an Arby's I remember eating at with my dad, but that was around maybe 2003 it closed? My fiance's Uncle Steve used to have a shoe store inside that mall as well.

I read that the former Sears garage was being demolished to make way for a Wawa gas station. As there was a story of a rock climbing place coming in the Whitehall Mall. It may still have a chance of survival. As the Former Bed Bath and Beyond in the Barns and Noble shopping center in South Mount shopping center in Freeman’s burg Avenue is becoming a Ross Dress Barn. Maybe the same thing should be for the former Bed Bath and Beyond store and the former Buy Buy Baby and former Michaels should be turned into a Ollies Bargain Store which be something new and exciting for the mall. As there may be a roumer of Out Back streak house restaurant coming to the Lehigh Valley Mall area that should be in the Whitehall Mall area. I do enjoy the supreme Chinese buffet there and Golden Carrol at the Lehigh Valley mall and Mission Barbecue restaurant I went to with my sister and nephew. Maybe that mall will turn around or maybe it can renovate into a new shopping center and the mall part can be demolished and maybe it can be called Whitehall Shopping Center of that makes sense.

So for a few week last year, that upstairs was open again, not sure they did it on purpose. Area up there isn't that interesting, as it appears to mostly have been used for meetings. There's an area security was using that looks like an old ticket booth. Other explorers went deeper into the office space, its...office space. Blue tile was an Arbys and that space was being used as storage by Five Below according to leasing information. The clean sticker on that window is new. Next store down was a vape/lotto place that closed in the last year or two. SMP next to that seems to never be open anymore. Still waiting for the Rock climbing gym to begin construction. According to leasing docs, all those empty storefronts that were Bed Bath related are under negotiations right now.

Not sure. I would guess that they'll demolish or close the inside mall and hope to add no stores outside.

Those were the towers for WSAN AM radio. WSAN had a free form format in the early 1970's. Among other discoveries, they basically gave Billy Joel a kickstart for his, at that time failing, career. That was the root of his song "Allentown". Those towers may have been the first and only to broadcast songs from his first album, "Cold Spring Harbor" which quickly became their most requested songs.

Buy buy baby was the relocation for the Weis market. Lehs closed before the mall downsized and a furniture store moved into the first floor and closed the second floor. The the store with the wood grain border and blue tile work is a old Mall Arby's install.

Clover was owned by Strawbradge & Clothers and and functioned as there discount store named for the department stores famous clover days sales the chain died because strawbridges sold to May co who didn't want to run the chain. He was they were nice stores basically selling the same merchandise you could buy at a big Department store but on discount because the Lehigh Valley never got a full strawbridges.
