I would bring Justin Che tbh because he has that flexibility to play RB as well as CB. He'd probably be the #1 backup option if any of the teams don't want to release the defenders you mentioned.

My point was that he's be a good alternate because he's got positional flexibility and he would definitely be release for the tournament by his club (both the one he's loaned to and the one who owns his contract rights) because they have a fall-spring schedule rather than a spring-winter schedule like MLS. As the Olympics is not a FIFA window, clubs are not require to allow their players to leave on international duty, therefore there will likely be a pretty even split in the roster between young players who are pushing themselves in Europe, and MLS/Liga MX players who are deemed not as important to their clubs regular season ambitions.

I would give all the age-eligible senior players the option to play both Copa America and Olympics. They are young, they can handle it. If they want to play and the club will release them then let them play.

I think some of these players have earned enough respect at their club that if they asked to be allowed to participate in the Olympics it could happen. Remember Messi played in the 2008 Olympics after Barcelona initially said no. Not that any of these guys are on that level but things happen and clubs can sometimes be reasonable.

There will be some tough choices. I’d figure out a way to get Esmir Bajraktarevic in, he was pretty much the best U23 player in the October and November windows and I have a feeling he’s going to bust out for NER this Spring. I think Sargent is going to be on the senior squad, so that probably leaves a Haji Wright instead at striker. I might just have Wright as the sole striker and use Kamungo as the backup striker, and fit in Esmir. Otherwise, good lineup, lots of tough choices and lots of deserving candidates that won’t make the cut.

Really good picks. I would prefer Gutierrez over Paxton but I don’t see Chicago releasing him for all the reasons you mentioned. Also I don’t see booth as a long term wide player, but he would definitely be one of the better underage options there for us

Brandan Craig has to be there. Only not playing in MLS because he’s behind the best starting CB pair in the league. Craig’s ability on the ball is special for a CB. Plus can play 6 in emergency

Thanks Pete for responding to my ask from the last video! I am likewise concerned about the CB situation for that age group, but think with the us not having any quality pieces for a 9 I'd rather run shorter depth there with either Dietz or Che instead of one of the two guys you mentioned as the primary back up, and see if we can get both Sargent and Haji up front. It would also make me feel better about our winger situation in case we needed to push Sargent wide. The SKC guy in me is sad bout busio not being in your top 5 picks, but I think you're right on with what you said, Lotta depth 5 spots. Will Mitrović coach the tourney as the u23 coach or will it be Berhalter?
