As a Chinese, your experience in China was so real, lol. I have been to that northen China region, and people were... rude as you described. Partly because that region has some deeprooted gang culture, plus the most corrupt regional government in China, and one top of that, that region is having a long economic stagnation. All these makes most people there depressed and angry, making the talented and rich fleeing into the south. But to be honest, those who fleed to the south were actually pretty nice, smart and hardworking people. It's not their fault. If you come to the big cities like what you mentioned, you will find people are more friendly, and you will enjoy the nice service with morden and historic senaries. Although I would also admit China does not have a smile culture neither, lol. Hope you will have a better experience next time. Love ya~

I think some unique aspects of Russian culture that I have seen: Russians seem to have a high regard for arts and higher or abstract learning. Most Russian people I have known are very interested in literature, museums, arts, and so on. Certainly the majority of my fellow Americans don’t seem to care much for these things. Also Russians seem to have a high focus or caring about health regimens, although their ideas of what is health (or natural) can seem very different. For example, it seems most Russians consider any pill (even stuff we consider rather mild) unhealthy or unnatural. I’ve seen my Russian friends suffer with headaches, fevers, or stomach pains that we wouldn’t tolerate. But vodka seems to be considered very natural, as though it is plucked fresh from the vodka tree, still covered in dew. I also really appreciate Russian cuisine, how the best food seems to be found still at home (not in restaurants). Many soups, salads, and other very “homey” meals, I feel. Also, while it isn’t universal, there seems to be a real gentleness to Russian culture. I think once you make friends with a Russian person, you can really count on them. And I’ve seen a lot of carrying by Russian people for older people.

Wally Shed I found your comment interesting, and there are elements of truth in it. I know well, my (late) mother being Russian. My dad, first Generation Italian American. My mother was much smarter than my dad. (and stubborn) --- I inherited those things from her. The notion that Russians are heavy Vodka drinkers is a myth. Vodka incidentally means 'Little water' маленькая вода Voda/Vody = Water Should you wish to make some Russian food Here you will find recipes like my mother 'Liliana' and her mother Yekaterina used to make It is in Russian, but easy to follow It is easier for me as I know the language You can for ease of use translate the ingredients list, and soon you will be speaking some Russian. Spent 4 months in Saint Petersburg and I can say apart from the distance, the way Russians and Brazilians see and carry life have a lot of similarities, like hospitality with people (always try to impress the guest no matter what), patriotic view despite criticizing their home country all the time (only among themselves, they get offended if a foreigner do), dealing with problems anyway they can even without any resource or planning, what we call "Gambiarra" (Fast but bad temporary solution instead of a more slow but definitive one), the will to take advantage over everything, what we call "Lei de Gerson" (Gerson's Law), disregard with law in general (there's always a way to cheat the system, like you do in the Russia-China border, we do exactly the same on Brazil-Paraguay border), big concern with the self-image (what others think of you is very important, like dress good to go to the supermarket) and the thinking that europe and usa is a better place, what we call "Síndrome de Vira-Lata" (Stray Dog Syndrome). The difference is that we are more optimistic and we spent more time socializing, but you have a more rich history and cares a lot about it (In saint petersburg at least there are museums everywhere). I think that Russians and Brazilians are used to difficulties in life and that don't scare us, we live the way we can with sarcasm and optimism. A lot of brazilian soup novels are famous in Russia, mainly "Escrava Isaura" and more recently, as I was told, "O Clone". Strogonoff is a very common dish here but 99% of Brazilians think it's a French dish instead of a Russian one.

Very informative, presented clearly, and a current topic. In fact, all your videos are presented with interesting topics. I visited St. Petersburg/Leningrad in 1966 and it was a very different country back then, so viewing Russia through your eyes today is refreshing. My neighbor is a translator from Ukraine and she has lived in the U.S. about 25 years. We also have several Russian immigrants in our small community of about 20,000 people. They seem to run into each other; I hear Russian spoken around town frequently! Keep the videos coming; they are great!

I am Portuguese, and when you talked about it I was so happy you said “I know that’s not true” at the end of it because you thought those things that came right to your mind were probably just stereotypical lol, shows that you know we are very different countries when you actually look at it. Awesome videos btw really enjoying them! Edit: also shows that you saying were close as a stereotype that we can still have very different cultures like many countries

Wow! I have been interested in Siberia and Russian Far East for years, but it's not easy to find out more about those regions. I am from Serbia, so we are culturally close nations and Serbs do like Russia, but 99% of the people here only know about Moscow and Petersburg. However, not me. My favorite Russian city is Khabarovsk, at least based on my researches on the internet and VKontakte, so I got literally impressed when I have found out about your Channel. Nothing better than learning about Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Spassk-Dalny etc from the local :) I hope I will visit Далеки Исток, as we would call it. At the same time I hope you will visit Serbia and enjoy it one day (we are some kind of bridge between Russia and Western Europe, with the charm of South). Поздрав из Србије - Привет из Сербии!

The most refreshing thing about all of your videos for me is how you just describe the current situation wherever you are. You don't get political (that may be self serving, health preserving). Watching you from the perspective of a different world power is quite interesting. Just a man wondering how everything is perceived from a different point of view. Love your perspective!

I don't know why I feel similarity between Russia and Germans specially on the point of talking to strangers and honestly those two things is pretty common in eastern Europe and some extent central Europe they don't have fake smile 😂 and Germans are more deciplined and organised then others😂 I m not a native English speaker or European but it's my observation on the basis of virtual interaction with people maybe I m wrong Stay safe ❤️
