To proofread texts, read them out loud. If you read them in your head, your brain will correct tons of mistakes and your eyes will gloss over. If you read them out loud, you will have a far easier time spotting: -typos. Not all of them get picked up by autocorrect -grammatical errors -run-on sentences -repetitions -unfinished sentences -bad choices of words and tone -slow sections with too many details -losing point of the topic.

@@milkymilk53 In my defence, I wrote that when youtube had a bug where in dark mode, you'd get black text on a black background. So I started typing, then switched to a text editor, typed it there, copied it over, and forgot I already started typing here.

Only because we're taught/forced to read fast, so any long term comprehension doesn't stick. Most learn to maybe read a line or two and spot key words that tell them the bare base subject of the email, which leads to misunderstandings because they failed to read the whole thing proper.
