You could eliminate all these customer complaints about seal issues if you take care of it before shipping the unit. Is it too much to ask for you to pre-install these fittings and know that they are installed correctly? After all, you are the pros at this right?

Either the QuickJack instructions or the bottle of sealant that comes with the lift needs better directions....I had every joint leak with the liquid sealant. If it needs to sit for several hours or overnight before use, the directions should state that. "Allow time to cure" is vague...the bottle says "allow time to cure." I don't know what that means. I re-did every joint with teflon tape and have been leak free ever since. That was my only aggravation setting up my QuickJack.

Yes same, switched to teflon tape after leaking fluid through all the joints

I just got my QuickJack BL-5000SLX and it came with the bottle of sealant but I did not use it. Instead I used Permatex Hydraulic Sealant Non-Fouling #54540 purple. I put together the fittings that required the thread sealant and let them sit for 24 hours to cure and had zero leaks when I primed/bleed the hydraulic pistons. I am sure the supplied thread sealant would have worked as well but Permatex is a known brand that has a long track record.

I just got my quickjack unboxed yesterday and I don’t have experience with hydraulic fittings or with thread sealing such as this. I’ve always used tape of some sort and it’s always worked for me. The instructions are lacking as there is no mention of waiting for the sealant to cure (or how long to wait). So I went to turn it on after about 30 mins after completing the assembly and I got a pretty bad mess of ATF fluid on my garage floor. The instructions are adamant about using the included thread sealant. After watching this I’ll just go with Teflon tape. Update: used Teflon tape and the connections are bone dry. Would be nice if either Quickjack provided and recommended Teflon tape (with instructions on proper use for those who need it) and get rid of the thread sealant. It sounds like it gives all sorts of problems. Or better yet just eliminate this variability in this step and provide pre-assembled and tested connections in the box.

How long does it take for the liquid to seal? I used it, but then it leaked at all my joints. The bottle sent in the kit has no directions and the online instructions only talks about using thread tape. I switched to tape and it works leak free now.

I had the same issue. I had 3 leaking connections, and it just so happened it was the last 3 I assembled. It seems like generally it takes 24hrs to fully cure. I'll let you know if this works later!

just receive mine today, amazing how easy if you follow the instructions, but the liquid thread seal is only good with at least 24 hours, usually buyers reserve a day to full setup and hang it on the wall..... that was my case, i get spent 3 hours trying the liquid, i simply disassembly all connection and put the tape thread seal. Save yourself time and just go with the tape done the right way it will save a ton of time.

I got my jacks not too long ago and it cane with the liquid sealer which was new to me. After setting up everything one of the connections was leaking so i took it off and used teflon tape i had. Havent tried it yet to see if it stopped leaking.

I had the same issue. I had 2 failures 1 on each hose at a different point. Cleaned the threads the best I could and used Teflon tape. I was assembling the lift to use that day. I didn't have hours to let it cure. Good thing I keep tape around. That sealant is for the birds or people that don't mind waiting a day or so for it to cure.
@diecast118scale72 жыл бұрын
@@jdm5lughatch Nothing wrong with using thread sealant, people are in to big of a hurry now days, I used Permatex Pneumatic/Hydraulic Sealant Non-Fouling #54540 Purple, it has a 24 hour full cure time but when you do it right and allow it to cure you don't have any leaks and you won't have to worry about fouling the hydraulic system with a small piece of teflon tape.
@senioraces3 жыл бұрын
aahhh, I didn't give the thread sealant enough time to dry! My threads leaked immediately after using the sealant. I tossed it and used the thread tape; no more leaks. so how long does it take for the sealant to eventually dry and actually seal?

I’m STILL having issues. I used liquid. It didn’t dry long enough. Puked fluid everywhere. Put tape on after cleaning everything up but now that the system is full of fluid I guess it wasn’t perfectly dry. Half the fitting leaked again. Now I’m back trying the liquid again and going to let it dry for 12hrs. This better work because I’m not enjoying the jacks at all. All I’m doing is cleaning up fluid LOL. Why don’t the fittings all come preinstalled?!?!
@gd97043 жыл бұрын
Me too. EVERY joint leaked. The bottle said to let "dry enough," whatever that means. I redid every joint with tape and it's been leak free.

I have a question, and have had a question unanswered for a long time now. Are you going to post a video of the crossbeam adapter lifting a staggered frame vehicle? Your video of the adapter did not show any actual lifting.

Just how long is "time to.cure" ?
@quickjackusa2 жыл бұрын
Per the sealant manufacturer, the cure time should be 24 hours (+/- a few hours depending on the ambient temperature and humidity) If it's below freezing and/or above 70% humidity, we suggest giving it additional time. Of course, if you don't want to wait for the fittings to seal you can use standard, off-the-shelf thread seal tape. Just be sure to apply the tape properly to avoid any contamination of the hydraulic system.

I wonder how the sealant behaves if the garage is normally about 115 degrees in the summer over time? I think it’s best to stick to the Teflon tape.

Permatex brand thread sealant #54540 purple is good for up to 300 degrees so a hot garage would not be an issue.

If it leaks and we reseal the hoses, do we have to go through the bleeding process again? 🤔 (Literally just got it two days ago and set it up today. Guess I didn't let the liquid sealer set long enough?)

The problem with the tape is that it shreds into a million pieces if you disassemble the fittings, and then you will contaminate the system weather you like it or not. The liquid doesn’t seem to harden and remains in liquid form. After 5 days mine didn’t leak but the sealant was still a liquid with no hardening at all.
