What’s better for K9 dog? Male or female dog?

I would never believe that the female dog would be a better protection dog than a male - having owned a male German Shepherd , We bought from Han’s . But Han’s is The Expert & He knows what He’s talking about !!!

Having owned a bad ass Male German Shepherd , sold to us by Han’s , it’s hard to believe that a female could be better at protection than my male dog was BUT Han’s KNOWS what He’s talking about & My wife & I respect Him totally - so what He says is BIBLE ( when it comes to Dogs ) !!!

I have a question Hans. The female being more tenacious does make sense and I can agree with that in the aspect of female to female dog aggression but what are your thoughts when you have a female handler with a male protection dog? I have owned several females but never used them for protection work so I have no experience there. My protection dogs have always been male. Do you think the bond may possibly be better and therefore the instinct to protect the handler is in any way better when dog and handler are of opposite sex? Do you see any change when this is the scenario and if so, what would you attribute for being that reason?

There may be certain heightened protectiveness of a male dog of the female handler especially if she is less dominant in her leadership position. In my past when I left the house my boys natural protectiveness of my GF kicked into overdrive so yes you are right to a degree. But if I would generalize male and female dogs, the female dogs are more intense than males as far as tenacity in fight goes and as I have described it in the video. But that is different then protectiveness.

True that usually the females are more tenacious…but often they are also less biddable. So while they can be pure sass and piss and vinegar. They can also close their ears easier to your cues than a male… and do what they want to do. Also, often they can be moodier. If you ask them to do things, or train longer than they want to, or if they just don’t want to do it, they can go into avoidance because they can become sulky. Lastly, also true that they can often bark more, be the first, react more towards strangers, have a mind of their own, think faster, than a male. Perfectly put Hans that a male is more like a best buddy…while a female gets down to business…but only if she wants too.

Well when We bought a German Shepherd Puppy from Han’s - We wanted a Male . From Han’s explanation next time - We will get a Female . But The Male We bought , from Han’s , was a Bad Ass Dog !!! It alerted ( barked ) - would defend ( especially my wife ) and was just a great dog to own & live with . Hans sells the BEST PROTECTION DOGS on the market !!! By The way Han’s - We will be ready soon - We are moving - once that’s complete - We will be calling You !!!

I confirmed by looking old documentary pictures with SS from WWII. I could tell the dog if it was a female by the way she was built
