What's Better? The Isle Legacy Or Evrima?

What i miss more of Legacy, and i hope come back eventually in evrima, the social aspect. I like the inmersion than evrima has and that, but I miss the long calls everywhere and the shenanigans of the playerbase.

Honestly as soon as they get rid of legacy, those players will likely jump on evrima. After that things will start to feel similar again, then they just need to get the Apex's in and it'll be like legacy 2.0

Hopefully better than, although this comment is more on the money than is a good thing! They REALLY need to work on encapsulation and good practices, because the bugs they cant seem to find for months/years, and the bugs that were "fixed" and now are back are all signs of "spaghetti code"/poor encapsulation and bad practices.... Which is why they needed to start the game over from scratch last time.... The fact that theyre facing these issues now in Evrima is >VERY< concerning.... I really hope that they learn from past mistakes because Evrima is SUCH a good game.... Under the bugs... Theyve GOT to get their practices under control.... and it seems like part of the reason they cant focus on that is perhaps ongoing disputes about vision both core and tertiary? I really hope its better than Legacy 2 because as is, for every bug they fix, or every QOL they add, they break two other things, and have to roll back 3 other new QOL features(the queue system has been abysmal, as a for instance... AI, food in mouth bug, etc) ** Ive even seen a few elite fish in the air lately.... over water, and not UP in the sky... but noticeably in the air again :I talking about returning bugs

it's never going to be legacy 2.0. the overall map layout, tropics and pacing of the game is very different. the map iself never was made for apexes in mind, I have no idea how you can move around being a rex or anything of a similar size. a lot of legacy players will just drop playin at all, either because they despise everima or can't run it

Evrima. Playing Legacy feels nice until I get into pvp and remember why I don't play it, it doesn't matter if I win or not since it's because combat in legacy is just objectively worse than Evrima. When I last played Legacy I was a Dilo and ı killed an Allo but due to how bad combat is in that version it wasn't rewarding it was just sad. And the whole "Legacy has more playables" arguement is invalid in my opinion because barely any of the playables have something to make them unique other than basic stat differences. (Stomps, Jumping and Bone break, that's basically it) Like you said aswell pretty much all of Evrima's playables have something to set them apart from the others. Evrima Dilo has it's venom mechanic, meanwhile Legacy Dilo is essentially a stronger Omni or a weaker Giga because it's size and speed is the only thing that sets them apart. I mean I guess Legacy would be a an option for people who don't have a strong enough pc to handle Evrima but even in that case I'd say PoT is a better option than Legacy.

Yes exactly. I've always said pot is a better legacy because it's pretty much just a smooth running and looking version of legacy that actually works, with mrke mechanics on top. But Evrima is the game for me because of how it is set up and how each playable is different enough. Just hope they get on with it lol

Some people think that the legacy players will cross over to evrima once legacy gets nuked. Those players won’t likely switch over. Not because of their disdain for the isle, but because Evrima is a computer resource hog and clientside performance improvements are few and far between

I really disslike the distant calls in evrima. In legacy you hear a broadcast differently the further you are away from it, kinda like 3 different and unique audios for just 1 call. In evrima i cannot tell how far away a broadcasting juvie Stego is, I caught myself wandering towards a juvie stego multiple times, as it sounded like its very close which turned out to be half the map away from me. So even after being experienced with it i still have no idea

I love evrima, but I dont enjoy it as much as I enjoyed legacy. Obviously i've been with legacy way longer so there is some nostalgia there but in evrima I just dont find people as often. I don't have the fear of running into someone because I feel as if nobody is actually around. And when I do run into people, I just don't get the same vibe as legacy. I still love the game tho, the movement, the graphics, everything is so much more fun but because theres no social aspect, or even travelling around and nesting with packs, I just get a bit disappointed. But, thats my personal experience on evrima. Maybe i'm just not on the right servers or meeting the right people :) (Edit) I've made some friends to play with, and figured out the hotspots. I'm actually finding people now and its great. Still not the same vibe from legacy, but my opinion is growing more positive of evrima. Both are great and thats just my personal experience.

@wiili22 You are in the minority in that. Yes Evrima has better graphics and different mechanics. But the game play is boring as most know. I can tell you haven't been with the Isle more then a couple years. Us who where there from the beginning know. it well. Evrima isn't the Isle. While you got new mechanics, some of them not.many actually cool pounce etc. Instead of running around focused on weird special diets, Legacy makes it simple more real. Dinosaurs Just ate they wrent picky and on diets. Evrima doesn't have enough Dinosaurs to come close to compare to legacy to play either Boring. Evrima also added the most Un Dino things to it. Farm animals, And (ugg) Humans. Also all who prefer legacy will tell you Gameplay isn't the same. Doesn't even feel the same it's so far removed ts just not the Isle anymore it's a completely different game. And for most of us Legacy is way more fun. Get Dino eat drink try to survive that's the Isle. Evrima is an ok game it's just not the Isle it's something else

What I personally really miss is the Progression mode back when the game was super fresh in early access. It was a game mode on smaller maps that was centered around you playing yourself "up" the food chain. you start as a small dino and have to survive long enough to unlock a new, bigger dino. Once you died, you were shot back to the start. It was a very fun mode that really punished players for dying and big dinosaurs were rare and once you reached the top you really thought twice to pick a fight with somebody your own size. that felt very real because in reality big predators rarely attack eachother and look for smaller prey instead. ofc you eventually reach that plateau where you cannot progress further, but it was much later than in Legacy. Generally this mode had an awesome dynamic of a constantly refreshing food chain. The biggest issue however was that the game was so fresh that it didnt have any NPC prey animals and only rare food spawns for herbivores. And the developers were really not interested in appeasing the players. they constantly pushed out updates without warning, completely resetting everybodys progression. raging on the devs was a commonly shared tradition.

i think evrima is better mainly becasue it has a better gameplay loop with the diet and migration systems, as flawed as they are, i think its better than what legacy has where the only reason you need to move as a herbivore (and if you dont pvp often like me) , is because you are bored, you just find a place with water and food, and sit there until you are fully grown.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about how "Envrima should have been further along by now", and I used to believe so too, until I started developing my own game. My GOD does it take so long, I started in November and I just about finished the AI and all the mechanics, as bare bones as bare bones could get, some systems are there, but they don't even do anything. After this, I started looking at other game dev logs. Ponty Pants' Punch a Bunch took YEARS to complete and it's less content packed than Envrima. His other game, A difficult game about climbing to a YEAR, and on the outside, it looks really simple! In fact, I realize now just how much work has been done for Envrima in the past 4 years. I mean they have so many animations, many mechanics that probably took weeks to get right(I'm looking at Dilo Venom) I mean, lets appreciate how much they have done, Deino Lunge, Carno Charge, things that seem really simple to the general public, but once you start actually looking at it from a game dev standpoint, it makes sense, I mean, people were complaining gateway took too long. Have you seen unreal engine terrain maker? Brutal up until now!(That's only if you want AI;)

I'm sure most of us understand at least a bit that it's not easy to make the Isle, and that it has unique mechanics which leads to unique problems which could be harder to solve and more time consuming. But regardless of this people will compare to other games and so they have a rough time scale in their head until they start feeling it's taking too long. And don't forget it's not always about how long it takes to bring in more playables or map changes, but it's mainly about when something is messed up or done badly that it makes the game not fun or even unplayable for some then it takes months to fix this, which sure it can be a hard thing to fix that may even look simple to us, but it's still a lot of time regardless of the problem so people end up complaining (like myself) or move to other games. Because at the end of the day a game is to have fun with and if you can't have fun with it then that's the main problem

I think the one thing to consider is that they're actually insanely different versions of the same game. Personally I prefer Evrima for its immersion, diets and battle. Legacy one ups evrima on two things for me: Amount in the Roster and Social aspect. While some Evrima unofficial servers have global chats, there are few unofficial servers that are actually consistently busy. And the roster in legacy, oh the roster! I miss having the option to play as an apex. All in all for me, Evrima feels smoother - less buggy - than Legacy does, and it's obviously way more fleshed out as a survival game than Legacy is. That's why I enjoy it. Evrima beat Legacy in quality of the roster, with almost every dinosaur having unique abilities; Herrera can climb, dibble can spar, cera can eat pretty much everything + saliva that makes others throw up. Although neither version is complete by far, Evrima just feels more complete to me and way more engaging.

Personally, what sets Legacy and Evrima apart is the amount of time and care that goes into each. (Or went, so to speak) It's really plain to see that Evrima has A LOT more going for it and is much more ambitious. While Legacy has the numbers, Evrima has the quality and variety of dinos; no 2 dinos feel the same and all (classic quality over quantity). To top it off, it is made abundantly clear that some matchups are supposed to be VERY one sided. A single raptor should not win a fight with an apex! Trying to cut the team some slack, but it would be nice if updates rolled out quicker.

I’ve been playing evrima lately but I’ve realised that I might prefer legacy. The way the dinosaurs move in legacy feels so much nicer like the dinosaurs move with elegance. The dinosaurs in evrima don’t move in the same way and it feels weird. Also I prefer the graphics in legacy, in evrima, you spawn in being surrounded by foliage as if you are in a documentary which also causes massive performance issues. In legacy I can actually see my dinosaur properly and they don’t move like they are on crack.

@@ucjgaming I'm sorry but "realistic" is not how I'd describe Envirma's movement or combat. Dinosaurs didn't move at mach 5 and accelerate with TnT like kinetic energy. Movement in Legacy for carnivores on smooth terrain is probably the best made ever in any dino game. Envirma was such a backwards idiotic step. The Isle ALWAYS had network interpolation issues with 100 player servers + AI but making everyone 100x faster made combat so unenjoyable it's not even funny how you players can convince yourselves this nonsense is better. As a side point Envirma only runs at 50% render resolution with lowest settings on my PC which can run Star Citizen. It definitely does NOT look better than Legacy which I can max out at 100% render resolution.

personally me legacy is better simply because whilst some communities are toxic, and lets be honest; BOTH communities will have their toxic side; but mostly i miss being able to interact with players, being abl to see whos all on the server, being able to chat to people, being able to add someone to my group and find them, legacy had more..? for me at least more to offer; the combat of evrima is super good but at this moment for me it doesnt surpass legacy just yet; also spawning with like so low food as juvis just isnt it for me, i get wanting it to be hard to survive but making it insanly hard to live unless u know how to play the game immedately is just not it for me

Envrima is better. But there is still toxic players there. There is a reason why patchy is known for killing everything around it. I play patchy too. I am that player that wants to take everyone and everything to the church of the bonk. I tell new patchy players that greeting other dinos is a head butt to the skull. Also, playing galli. They may not be able to kill a bunch of things. That never stops me from playing football with any juvie stegis and ceratos i can find.

I really only played Evrima, I got the game super late and saw youtube videos online about the game. While I did try legacy, the amount of rules based on how you can fight, how you can play, and restricting what should be a natural survival game makes it soooo bad. Evrima feels free, you are just trying to survive and to do so you need to find out the best way to hunt. The global chat/cross species chat was stupid, and spawned a whole generation of terrible just awful cross species grouping players (if you do it you deserve to fall and break your leg in game). For me Evrima is where ill stay, and I doubt Ill ever go back to legacy.

I don't think it's correct to compare them just because it's a lot of years between them. Legacy was amazing for what it was back in the day, and its still holds its nostalgic value. One thing legacy does better is not restricting players from moving around. Theres water and food even in the most remote places on the map so you can always find people all over even if hotspots still exist. Evrima is a mess of a game tho, no grafics or improved combat can improve it

I understand your point, however I do feel like they are stuck in a similar situation as with Evrima, and struggling to move forward even with the obvious progress that sets apart legacy and Evrima. Yes legacy was definitely the top and also only game like this at its time, and it was great! Not shitting on it just pointing stuff out and I hope for a brighter future for this game

Personally I've been watching the isle since the start. Legacy was fun in its time but after it's long years of no change its gotten boring, yes you can get nested in as non servival dinos like shant. It doesn't offer much fun now since there's nothing new. Evrima, has lesser dinos from the rozder currently but it is more fun, herrera has got to be the most fun dino to play compared to the legacy which is just speedy and that's it, evrima has more to offer in my opinion.

I already prefer eveima but imo they need to bump up server sizes as the map feels empty accept for in like 2 maybe 3 areas that or make the other areas such as the south east more inviting to players. I dont go out of my way to make long term friends just cool people i run into now and then but thats my own fault but that makes it hard to find other players of the same species. That and the lack of global chat. At least give us a global species chat rather than proximity. Now when allo is released you wont be able to pull me off the game.

They have bumped up the servers in hord testing, so I presume once the dibble update is out it will also bump up the official server slots. Or you could try unofficial servers

Evrima is a lot more immersive and fun each dino is unique in it's own way and the mechanics such as diets migrations and the upcoming mutations add to the depth of the gameplay loop. Legacy however had more human intrection and I miss thay

Yeah Herbie gameplay in general is nice. I prefer Herbie because it's more about making friends and then watching them die horribly, and then crying about it 😅 Or nesting! But not enough Herbie's for me, really looking forward to Dibble though!

@@ucjgamingfunny enough I actually started growing a teno today after losing my sub pachy to raptors and Ive only ever fully grown a teno at most once, it was really fun and Im generally a pretty chill player, I ended up befriending a pachy at a young age after meeting some older pachies and I was kinda like its bodyguard as it was a little younger than me lol, sadly got that weird food bug that you have to safelog to fix and couldnt get back into the server, started playing again a little earlier and my tenos getting older and wiser so hopefully I’ll make it to adulthood lol! Not great at teno pvp at all but its a very smooth playable to play.

Gonna paste this here cuz I already said it but want others to be able to see it easily if they’re interested: I actually started growing a teno today after losing my sub pachy to raptors and Ive only ever fully grown a teno at most once, it was really fun and Im generally a pretty chill player, I ended up befriending a pachy at a young age after meeting some older pachies and I was kinda like its bodyguard as it was a little younger than me lol, sadly got that weird food bug that you have to safelog to fix and couldnt get back into the server, started playing again a little earlier and my tenos getting older and wiser so hopefully I’ll make it to adulthood lol! Not great at teno pvp at all but its a very smooth playable to play.

I've been doing legacy combat for quite some hours and about all the "if you know the hit boxes and glitches" and all that you're like top 20 player, which really just ain't true just because you "know" them doesn't mean you are good at them it takes hours and then some more hours to actually get good at legacy combat, like better than most players, it's just like evrima the person who does the most will be the best at the game and then there is some things in legacy which is like- you need a bit of luck and the game can really screw you over even if you are like top 10 player, players in evrima get screwed over as well (desynch, lag etc) but yea honestly legacy takes more skill than people realizes >:D (it can also actually become fun and maybe a bit addictive... if u get into it :o)

Evrima has Evrima jas better graphics and new mechanics but Legacy is Soo much more fun to play. Totally different experience. I dont consider Evrima Isle at all just a different game. SOCIAL aspect, lack of dinos, The whole feel of legacy is better for me Once Legacy Goes Im done with the Isle forever. Arch Maybe POT or something else

evrima has great graphics.. but that’s about it. the combat is pretty horrendous in my opinion, to the point i would choose legacy combat despite the terrible hitboxes. if you play herrera, you’re pretty much forced to live off ai or sit in a tree for 30 minutes or longer hoping somebody comes along to ambush. and if they’re a fast dino, good luck even landing the pounce to begin with. tenonto fighting controls are dogshit too. why do i have to hold alt to kick?? having to hold/press too many buttons at once makes it difficult to actually fight. deinosuchus also has to sit in one spot without moving for long periods of time unless they survive off cannibalism or find players who don’t pay attention to noise cues. the power difference between dinos is so drastic as well. why can the new dibble solo almost anything besides stego and croc? honestly, if they were to just overhaul legacy graphics and fix hitboxes, the game would be so much better. that’s just my opinion though.

I play both. 400 hours in legacy 360 in evrima. Legacy runs better for everyone, regardless of pc specs, so everyone has the chance too enjoy the game, legacy also feels more immersive, the ai sounds, the forests. Evrima feels flat, vast open spaces that should've been filled, evrima is a map for people that want to play a game, legacy is a map for gamers

@ucjgaming evrima is beautiful, it's where we WANT to be in terms of visuals but it's lacking SO much. There's just no depth. No feeling of being an animal trying too survive. Evrima feels like call of duty without guns, its just a toxic mess of bad players and bad coding. Fortunately legacy servers are still full capacity 24 hours a day. And more importantly, rules are always respected

And yes Evrima requires skill, Legacy doesn't require as much, it's more about learning bugs and how to use them with the broken hit boxes, that's playing a broken game and using it to your advantage. Evrima actually has mechanics that you need to learn and can learn well to main a particular Dino. It's that simple
