So glad I found your video. I cancelled sky q this week and when I put one sat cable into the free sat on my smart tv it just says week or no signal but the tv guide still worked. I spent hours trying to figure out why as I knew it worked before sky q was installed. Looks like I'll be buying a hybrid lnb or demanding that sky change my lnb back as they state the equipment is there so they can take their lnb back as well lol

@@81roseline Hi Juliet, you need to change the LNB on your Sky dish to a 4k QUAD Sky/freesat LNB (can be purchased thru Amazon for about £14). It's very simple to disconnect the old one and replace with new one (it's already lined up to pick up the signal) PROVIDING you can access your dish safely. Look on KZbin for demonstration. Hope that helps 😊

Hi you do great videos , can you give advice on this question , when sky q is installed what do you need to do to still receive the free view channels throughout your house from your existing aerial, as the sky q boxes don't have any aerial outputs. Must be quite simple as all cables are running throughout house to different rooms to give freeview from aerial.

Good question, yes it can be used for two sky+ boxes or Freesat+ boxes, alternatively you could have 4 non recordable satellite receivers attached to a quad or a combination of the two. It just became standard to fit quads on all installations to allow for extra TV's etc. I install quads even when I'm only installing one cable.

A Hybrid LNB will do the trick for Freesat+ Sky Q off the same dish. It's different again if you wanted to get Soarsat in Ireland by the way.

Hi. I’ve just gone to sky q and my digital tv can not receive the free view signal even if I connect the wire direct from the roof aerial direct into the tv, does this make sense? Also in the process of getting a loft conversion and I need to decide whether to put my loft aerial on the roof or scrap it. Hi, I have a Sky Q box and a single feed wire that was installed in the house years ago behind the walls. I have a stacker destacker to get around the single wire issue. However I have now lost my signal. I was told by a sky engineer that came out that the signal is fine but I will need 2 cables to be run from the dish to the sky q box. I don't want this as cabling would be run along skirting etc and would be messy. Is there an LNB that can be used with just the existing single cable I have for sky Q? Or is there any other way around it?

Hi, if I install a new Quattro LNB and then feed the 4 coaxial cables from the LNB down to a new dSCR multiswitch (and also connect a single coaxial cable for terrestrial to the multiswitch), do my faceplates in each of the rooms need to be triplexers or would single F-type faceplates in each room work? i.e. can the tuning equipment (satellite box or terrestrial TV) select just the frequencies that they're interested in and ignore the out-of-band frequencies or will they interefere - requiring a triplexer faceplate?

i have the latest freesat receiver where you can record 4 channels as long as you have the wide band LNB , and the signal strength & quality bars are 3/4 across the screen but i do have some channels saying no stream , i went into channel scan but i cant scan as its saying no signal ?

Hey there, no this isn't true. I can't think as to why you would have been told that. Maybe it was some reference to 4K. But no normal HDMI leads are fine. If you're buying a new one I recommend getting one certified to the latest standard HDMI 2.0. Tom

Hi Lee, I would use separate Euro F modules with a surround, this will do the trick, You can't use anything branded as Triplexed or Quadplexed.

Yes you would need either a Quad LNB or hybrid LNB installed on your dish. The wideband LNB used for Sky Q won't work.

Hi, I've been at my new property since last year and I've currently got Sky +. After fixing this up, Only Input 1 works and not the 2nd so I have had to use Single Feed mode. All of the wires are currently built into the walls and floors. Will there be a problem with the cable itself? Also I've been thinking of upgrading to Sky Q. Would they need to fit a new dish altogether? With only 1 feed working.

Possible there is an issue with the cables. I would check the cable terminations first. Sky Q needs two cables to work properly as half the channels are supplied down one cable and the other half down the other. It can be done down one cable but you will need to install a dSCR LNB to the satellite dish and set the Sky Q box to SCR mode within the LNB settings menu. It's unlikely that the Sky installer will have the LNB to do this. Existing dish should be fine.

Hi Tom, Recently moved house and they have a sky dish installed. It has two wires and comes into the living room. I'm plugging to two wired directly into my Sony TV but it's only picking up 270 channels. None of these being of any use. Do I need to input certain frequencies or settings when searching? Would I need to contact Sky direct or could I contact a company like yourselves directly to carry out the install? I currently have a non standard Astra Dish with Quad LNB which I fitted and installed myself many years ago. I'm currently intermittently losing signal on Inputs to the receiver. Hi Robert. You would need to go to Sky to sign up to Sky Q. Independent companies can install the satellite dishes and make repairs etc but as far as I'm aware Sky without exclusivity with regard to supplying of Sky Q boxes. If you change to Sky Q you will either need a Wideband LNB or a Hybrid LNB to replace your Quad LNB. Regarding signal issues. Sorry I can really say from here as with digital TV most problems will present themselves in the same way so it could be your LNB, cable or Sky box that is causing problems. I hope that this helps. No I'm afraid not, you need either a universal style LNB, Quad, Octo etc. Or if you want to run Sky Q and Sky+HD at the same time a Hybrid LNB exists that will do the trick.

Hi, Sky Q was due to be installed at parents today who are elderly. There’s an existing dish on the first floor which was fitted by Sky a few years back. Due to change in regs the sky fitter won’t change LNB due to patio doors below and can’t anchor himself to wall! Parents won’t now pay for an private installer and want to cancel the lot. How easy is this to replace? Current setup is just then2 cables into a quad you have on video. I understand the cables don’t need to be replaced? Hi Nigel, yes it;s an easy job. If you get yourself a wideband LNB screw the old one off and put the new one on. Hi, thanks! To update to Sky Q you will need to change the LNB at the end of your dish to make the Sky Q box work and your Sky+HD boxes will no longer work. You have a couple of options from here. You could take the Sky Q multi-room option, where the boxes are connected wireless to the main Sky Q box but I can't say for sure how this will affect your monthly subscription payments. If you want to keep both Sky Q and Sky+HD running at the same time from the same satellite dish you will need a Hybrid LNB installed at the end of your satellite dish which allows for both. You need to replace the LNB on your satellite dish. You will either need a quad or Hybrid LNB.

Hi James. If you want to keep a magic eye system it's a bit tricky. You would need a HD-Modulator to create a digital channel from the HDMI output of the Sky Q box. Ideally get one with a HDMI loop through otherwise you will need a HDMI splitter as well. It get's a bit complicated if you want to run 4K on your main TV at the same time. For control you might be lucky with a Bluetooth remote working at all locations otherwise you will need to install an infra red emitter in front of the new Q box. You won't be able to fit both LNB's to the dish. I advise purchasing a Hybrid LNB, this will allow you to run Sky Q in your caravan and normal Sky in your neighbours.

Hi at my property we have a communial satellite dish which has been upgraded to recieve the Sky Q signal and i am a Sky Q customer, last night i completely lost signal and the lnb setting on the Q box was set to wideband but now i am no longer receiving any signal on the wideband setting, as soon as i set the lnb type to SCR i got my channels back, do you know what could cause that and would this have any effect on the number of recordings i can make on the Q Box? many thanks Dale

Hi Dale, I don't know why your LNB settings would change. For communal systems the Sky Q box should always be set to SCR mode, it won't work with Wideband mode. It won't effect the amount of recordings that you can make.

Yes but you couldn't connect your Sky Q box to the Quad LNB. You will need a Hybrid LNB if you want to run both off of the same satellite dish.

Hey Dave. I haven't actually done this myself yet but when I checked on a caravan forum a gentlemen said that he has already done this. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. Obviously you would need to to fit new wideband LNB's on both of your satellite dishes. I hope that this helps. Tom

hi..I've just moved into a new property and the previous tenant had Sky Q...so the satellite dish and cables are all still intact for the Sky Q..I plugged in my old Sky+HD box into the twin white cables,but I'm getting no signal..I want to watch Free to air channels only on my old Sky +HD box..how can go about this without paying too much money for a new satellite dish installation

Yes you just need to replace the Sky Q LNB on your satellite dish for either a Quad LNB or a Hybrid LNB. The LNB is the part of the satellite dish that the cables connect into.

Hi , I have had sky + HD for many years ( 15 ) and I have ordered sky Q and it is being fitted in a couple of weeks , the question is should I demand them changing the LNB and possibly the dish as it is so old also both my pc's and my two sky boxes are hard wired to the router and I want to keep it the same with the main Q and mini box , I have been told that the new hub has 4 ethernet ports but have found out that it only has two , should I ask for a ethernet switch and should they supply one ? many thanks for your help

Hi, they will need to replace the LNB anyway so I would ask them to change the dish at the same time. I think some Sky Q routers have 4 Ethernet ports, I doubt that they would provide a switch but I would check with them.

Hi David, depends on a few things. Is it a Sky Q box that you have? With the Q system half the channels come down one cable and they other half down the other.

I have the old HD+ box. I also havea Humax PVR. I think the independent installer put a octi LNB on the dish,it was all he had at the time? I am now thinking about getting a sky Q ,having some probs with HD+ box.I only need the same package as prior,no multi room etc. A girlfriend moved to a new flat and was told sky q was not available so would revert back to old hd box BUT the engineer said the sky q box could stay and work as a hd+box BUT only 1 cable is present and she can still tape and watch 4 programmes.I am lost with all this

Hi Gary. You actually have two separate issues which is confusing things somewhat. At your house. You couldn't use the Octo LNB but if you need is the equipment mentioned then you could install a Hybrid LNB which would allow Sky Q and normal Sky/ Freesat off the same satellite dish. At your girlfriends place it's a little different because she is connected to a satellite amplifier not directly to the satellite dish. If the satellite amps have been upgraded to Sky Q which use dSCR technology it would be possible to connect a Sky Q box with a single cable and then set the Sky Q box to single feed mode, whereas you would need two cables connected for Sky Q and Hybrid LNB's. You would obviously need to check with the managing agents/ landlord and not just take the Sky installers word for it to see if the amplifiers have been upgraded for Sky Q. I hope that this helps

If you are referring to the new Freesat box with 4 tuners, you need a wideband LNB installed on your dish. The dish itself should not need replacing.

Hi, no you would need a Hybrid LNB that would allow both Sky and Freesat signals. If you put a quad on the Sky Q in your lounge will no longer work.

Hi Joseph, you can but you may have an issue get with the LNB holder on your old dish. Difficult to say for certain without knowing exactly what you have.

Hi Calum, thanks and I'm glad you like the video. 1) depends a bit on the distance, anything below 25m WF65 would be fine, anything above I would use two separate WF100 cables. 2) Yes you will want a Hybrid LNB, the Sky branded ones are best as you can connect the Q box on any of the outputs. Otherwise I use the Visiblewave ones, the downside of this one is that you have separate outputs for Sky Q and normal Sky/ Freesat. I hope this helps. Tom

Great and informative video . I had SKY Q but canceled with them and sent box back ,now I have my SKY old HD box (which I always prefered ), Can I use it with Sky Q LNB or I need to change LNB ? I have BT sport on Sky and it's still working even after I canceled with Sky , That's why I want to put Sky +HD up ,so I could get BT sport on it and use it as a freeviewer . Thanks

Yes the LNB needs to be changed if you have a wideband LNB. This is the one with the two cable outputs, unless you have a hybrid LNB. This has 6 outputs in which case you might be fine with it. I can't really comment on the BT Sport being free, it's an encrypted pay service so I can't say how that it currently working for you. Make the most of it while it's there I guess as it will likely stop working.

I pay for BT sport with my BT broadband , so it's not free :) but it is linked with my Sky viewing card ,That's why still works . without any Sky boxes , I only can stream BT not on TV ,, I was looking to get my old Sky box to work ,so I could still have BT sport on TV . No worries. Ah okay. Maybe that will be fine then. Yes put the old LNB back up, it's actually quite an easy job. Just need a small headed screwdriver, unscrew the cables and screw into the LNB, screw back in position with the screwdriver. When you take the old LNB out pay attention to the angle that the new LNB had been installed into it's holder and try replicate that with the LNB you're putting in, it shouldn't be straight.

Interesting wish I knew this before sky changed the Sat box. Tell me I have a old tv upstairs which I use going to bed watching 1 channel which is fine with sky link coxial cable to former Sky HD box. Any satellite meter will be fine, it's a little different with Sky Q dSCR signals though if your installing communal systems. I don't actually have experience with many meters but I have a Promax Ranger.

Yes I think so. The LNB's required for Sky Q are not compatible with Freesat. But you can buy Hybrid LNB's now, fit this to the end of your dish and connect the cables and you can have Sky Q and Freesat fed from the same satellite dish.
