If the macaw is a hen, I hope that it is not a laying distress - the bird would then have great difficulty laying an egg and could die as a result. Otherwise, this behavior is very atypical and I would recommend paying close attention to whether the bird drinks and eats regularly. I hope it will get better and wish you all the best! Birds are very bad patients, so there is little you can do except wait and see.
