A brilliant breakdown on the physics of blank. Not seen a better visual of blank recovery! Thank you. I found this very interesting.

Very interesting Henry. I think the speed of recovery in the rod blank is key because it isn't really the power stroke that delivers the difference, but that sudden stop, the 'tap'. I'm a good fly caster, especially distance, and I can't help drawing comparisons to bass fishing, even though the weight is the lure, not the fly line. I'm glad you pointed out distance isn't usually required, but we all know it can be everything on the day, and to be honest I enjoy casting, and feeling the rod work. A lot of people I see are using the rod as a lever, and whilst it still flies out, they just aren't using the blank.

I have spent a hell of a lot of time photographing fresh and saltwater fly fishing all around the world, I love it. I am pretty useless at it myself, but to watch good fly anglers casting is amazing, and it's awesome to photograph. What you say is so true, thank you

Im a bit excited about these rods Henry. My fav metal is 32g. These rods, if they do what they say on the tin could be an ideal all round rod. At the moment I use an Illex S210m for my lighter lure fishing, and the bushwhacker for metals. A rod that can do both could be ideal.

Great video. It would be interesting to see how the lures behave in flight because if distance is your thing SG Pencils fly out without a heavy landing too. I wonder if casting is good with them on most rods? BTW good to see it go wrong. That seems to happen to me when I have an audience..

I hear you Paul, but how would one go about filming lures in flight? Would be bloody good to see, but with my limited skills I can't really see how I can do it.

@@henrygilbey302 I wonder if a drone could do it. I quite like the idea of using a quality drone to survey marks but to be honest, the decent stuff costs bucks not to mention carrying all the kit around. Perhaps the real point is. How far does the rod that doesn't recover cast that Pencil? Tight lines.

I noticed you don't feather the braid and seem to reel a lot of slack line in after the cast. How on earth do you not get wind knots with that method Henry? What is this witchcraft you possess?

What’s you go to size fishing rod that you feel comfortable using and get most distance casting with, I like using a 11ft abu Garcia venerate rod it’s good casting and can pull a decent bass around nice and easily 🎣

my go-to rod length? Probably 9' or 9'6'', but we have a 9'2'' coming which has become my go-to in a big way. I must admit to never worrying about whether the rod can land the fish we might hook, they all can, but most anglers never pull bass very hard anyway.

When I was a kid the only rods I could afford were heavy fibreglass and rubbish. I am still amazed how good even cheap rods are these days.
