It's a nice tutorial. My suggestion is with how you draw walls. Start with a really short wall as that way you only get two nodes, which means your wall will always be straight when you extend it.

how do you go first person like in the first clip? i've been looking for a way to walk around and be able to see where my builds need work from a ground perspective

Go into photo mode, and in on of the first blocks, you can change the camera type to walking. It looks like a camera with legs.
