Late to the carry bag discussions which are quite wonderful. After my handbag and school briefcase years, I replaced the briefcase with a general purpose open at the top bag to carry thermos, books, work papers, lunch; the bags usually have been big and ungainly. A friend would sometimes use the word schlep and so, liking the sound of the word, I then came to call my extra bag my schlepper.

I carry a similar bag to yours, I have it in tan leatherfor summer and black for winter. I carry notebook, mechanical pencil, and eraser in a pouch that matches my bag. I also have a large purse, as we call a woman's wallet. A cosmetic bag with a small hairbrush, a coloured lip salve. It will take my Kindle and any books I may buy or get from the library. I have a spectacle box for putting my glasses in when I have to wear a mask. Along the sides there are compartments to stop my etc items, a key chain that snaps on to my keys, and a sleeve that will take a waterborne of small flask of tea or coffee as required. It will take my tablet or laptop too. I really enjoyed seeing the way you organise your bag.

@@HannahsBooks no problems Hannah. By the way I prefer leather, and often buy second hand. It's amazing in the UK how lots of women buy bags and never use the. My equivalent to Steve's go to Brattle bag is enormous and very thin, but strong leather. It's too big for daily use, but is great for book buying days. I paid about $20 fir it from eBay. It came in a cloth bag from an expensive store via eBay. It even still had the original price tag. I that it with lanolin once a year and it has lasted 15 years, so far. It gers to look better and better. I am glad to see you looking good, keeping busy and still smiling. I have a nurse friend whose watchword is "a smile is better for your health a packet of pills". She also teases that my health is dependent on a book a day, not an apple. She's in no position to criticise as she reads almost as much as me, and uses my books like a lending library, which is a joy, because we get to discuss the book after she has read it.

Moms and their mad money! I love that they always made sure we had at least a little stashed away on our person, just in case. My grandmother had a superstition about giving a bag as a gift or hand-me-down without some money in it that the receiver would be forever broke if it wasn't included, so the few times that she gave me bags, it was fun to try to find the little bit of change or few dollars she stashed away inside.

I loved this! It's so important to be prepared, but it breaks my heart about the hospital bit. You are journeying through a tough time. It's nice that you use handkerchiefs instead of tissues. I didn't realize you were from NC. Are there certain types of books you feel drawn to during appointments, etc. or just whatever you have going?

Thank you for sharing your bag. I sewed my own bag. It's a simple bag. I can't wash it even though I used quilting cotton because I made the mistake of using felt for the lining. All well. I drew the outlines of pockets around the objects I wanted to fit inside the bag. That plan at least worked pretty well, although I sometimes wish it were just a smidgen larger.

Nice bag. I'm on the hunt for the exact bag - but now I've settled for different choices. I've retired my RON (Remain Overnight) bag.Basically a back pack with the base and 4+ inches up the sides covered in an old tire. Perfect for setting down on a wet tarmac while waiting to board. I had a near perfect LL Bean messenger bag - but alas it got old and needs to be replaced - once Bean's offers a similar item. I carry a cross body bag for the basics and a canvas bag kinda like yours for day trips around town.

Thanks, Julia! It would be so much fun to name colors! The company that makes this bag has a lot of interesting names--often food related: avocado, satsuma, nutmeg, honey, etc. Recently someone I follow on social media named her rescue kittens after a bunch of bag color names!

This was great Hannah! I have been watching BookTube for about eight years, and this is literally the first time I have wished I had a channel - so I could make a Bag Tuesday video! 🤣🤣 (PS Channel thing never going to happen, but it’s hilarious that it’s a bag video that even put the fleeting urge into my mind. 😂)

I must say that this bag is one of my favorite purchases in years. It is a combination of beautiful, practical, and special as well as plain and simple, all wrapped up into one. The craftsmanship definitely exceeds what I was expecting. The "AP" section on their website is quite a bit less expensive, and that is what got me to bite the bullet. I'm usually not much of a shopper, except when it comes to books... (There are also a fair number of coupons out there for discounts on PLG's full-quality bags, including a coupon link down in this video's description box, but I don't think these coupons work for the AP qualiity items.)

This was so interesting and practical! I'm definitely here for seeing your library bag especially if you show the books as well. I love how you and David have such one-of-a-kind special items, not only practical but beautiful. William Morris would approve. I'm intrigued by your mum's phrase "mad money". Did she mean for an emergency when you needed the bus home - or money for mad flights of fantasy purchases on the spur of the moment?

I am so pleased you all are humoring me! My mother meant for emergencies--and she frequently mentioned that I should have some money so I could get home if I got mad at a date. But she did tell me that other people often used the phrase for mad flights of fantasy, too!
