I'm still a DSLR shooter and don't think I'll be switching anytime soon just because of how cheap it is now. Recently I've picked up a 400mm 2.8g from Nikon and man does it feel nice. These used to be a dream but now the price point is so accessible.

I have the z9 with the z400 2.8. I made two trips to Alaska this summer and carried this combo on a peak design strap virtually everywhere I went and shot handheld photos, no video. I considered taking a lighter lens in my Brooks River walk in Katmai National Park but decided I paid too much not to use the lens (it is insured). It was a workout but is doable. For photos, I miss too many shots trying to use a tripod or even a monopod unless I am camped out in one spot. I am a 59 year old 5’7” female. I had to get a new bag when I got the lens. I use the Fstop Tilopa with the extra large ICU.

Hi Roxy. 👋 You're using my latest set up for my bird photography.. the Nikon Z9 plus the new 180-600mm Nikon lens. 😊 A brilliant pairing! That's where my kit ends though...I always handhold, I don't need to narrate or film myself, so all your extras I do not require myself. I have been thinking of a tripod for video recording though. Thank you for the great vid! ❤

What bag do you use to carry your equipment?
@SirIronJim Жыл бұрын
WOW!, I pretty much have the same equipment, with the exception of the Fluid Head and Wireless Mic (using the Komodo 5 and 7, along with the DJI Mic), I ordered the Z 400m 2.8 in April 2022, and the 180-600mm in July 2023 (still waiting for both lens to ship). The last time I was in Alaska was on a Cruise Ship in 2006, I found the Wildlife unbelievable! It is also where I learned about DSLR Camera's. At the time I had an HP Point in Shoot Pocket Camera, capable of shooting a max size of 640k images... Times have definitely changed :)

Roxy, just found your channel and the first thing that brought a smile to my lips was that you pronounce "Nikon" the way it should be, kudos to you. SO many others have a funny pronunciation. Hello Roxy, great video. Few questions, other than 35mm do you also carry a mid range like 24-70 or 24-120? What is the bag you use? Do you pack all you glass and bodies in you carry on, how do you manage the weight restrictions (airline). Thank you

Not normally, no, unless doing a lot of sync work then sometimes take a 24-70 too. No, won’t all fit in carry on with weight restrictions

Nice setup and kit. That 400mm is indeed a beast, as seen from the quality of your Lynx images in your last video. I am curious to know what you mean when you say you are signed as a Nikon creator though, is that your occupation? You always seem to be visiting many wonderful places, making these great vlogs. I can't imagine a better job to have, lol. Great video as always.

I have to say with the current IBIS and lens stabilisation the tripods are certainly not as much of a factor as they were in the past, at least for brief hand-held sessions. But obviously when waiting for a subject a 400/600mm prime will get tiresome!
@RoxytheZoologist Жыл бұрын
I haven’t got any decent footage handholding a lens of this size - not enough stability, especially on boats
@dicekolev5360 Жыл бұрын
Ibis is master when taking only photos but the technology is still not quite there for video . No matter the mode, once you start panning it always fails and gets jerky. No matter if 400 f2.8, 600 f4 or 800 6.3
@Wildridefilms Жыл бұрын
@@dicekolev5360Yes nikon's IS is really good for static shots, but as soon as you start panning or are unable to hold it still, it gets jerky. Fujifilm have the same problem, just not optimised for video. Panasonic and canon do a very good job in video stabilization at longer focal lengths though.
