What's in My Carry-On, Part 1

I'm back with a Carry-On show and tell video. Of course, I have so much stuff to show that I had to break my 20+ minute long video into two. So sorry about that, but I didn't realize how long it was until I uploaded it to my computer and I just couldn't cut enough out of it in the editing process to get it down to under 15 minutes. I bought my backpack at Lululemon about 2 years ago, and sadly they do not carry the exact thing anymore. They tend to bring certain popular items back from time to time, so you can check their website periodically at www.lululemon.com/.

@wahini101 Hi there! I did some digging online, but I can't seem to find out what model my backpack is. I know I bought it at least a year ago and lululemon cycles through things pretty quickly. I'm so sorry I don't have any information to pass on about it! Lots of companies make great backpacks, and I'm sure you'd be able to find something that suits your needs out there. To answer your other question, I do not travel for work. Just been a busy year and 2011 is looking to be the same!

Love your videos! You're adorable and I've found some great tips and new products to try. I've totally been where you are with carrying stuff for 'just in case' or even subscribing to a bunch of magazines 'just in case' you want to read them, but you would be amazed how physically and mentally liberating it can be to pare that all way down, and realizing that it will still be OK. I carried a walking pharmacy, tool kit, generic supplies, extra external cell batteries, etc etc etc for any and every 'just in case' I could think of (and don't even get me started on the what if's if my house caught fire...). Consider the pros and cons of the stress of thinking of and being prepared for absolutely everything.

I love your videos... I travel with a ton of stuff as well! I was wondering if you have ever tried a Samantha Brown underseater? I have two of them for work and school and am in love!! I have never attempted traveling on a flight with one yet... So I cannot attest to how well it works for fitting underneath the seat (as it says it should in the description, lol)!

I think I figured out why messenger bags don't distribute the weight properly even though you are wearing it crossbody. I am not an expert by any means. The straps are too long so it pulls on the shoulders. Purse style tote bags are not as bad cuz they are small and don't fit as much so doesn't get heavy to the point to pull on the straps. Purses/totes don't distribute the weight as much but cuz of shorter straps less pain.

If you really want to take books, you could get a Kindle or other eReader. It's not my fave way to read books, I'd rather have the real thing, but it works for travelling.

I also pack earplugs and wool socks for the plane. On a recent overnight flight my friends mocked me INCESSANTLY for it--until I was the only one able to sleep for 4 straight hours. :)
