Great med kit. I loaded mine based on your videos. It is always in my pack. I have a better kit than where I work. People co,e to me when the need something. Came in handy on my trip to Hawaii last month. 2 family members had a mi or illness and I had the OTC mods there to help. Didn't need to head to the store. Thanks Dan.
Nice addition. I definitely have a hiking staff forgot to mention. Ty for that.

NIce carry, good package :) just fyi "ROHS" is an abbreviation only, not a company, it means: „Restriction of (the use of certain) Hazardous Substances” and the equipment which carries complies with it

Lmao ty much appreciated...will correct that soon. That helps. Love it when the audience helps out with knowledge.

Your videos are top shelf, especially the medical videos, really enjoy the information! Regarding the headlamp, having a headlamp that is USB C or micro USB (essentially one that does not use a proprietary charging cable) can be a better way to go, especially when traveling. Everyone sells replacement cords for "C" and "Micro", even gas stations. Charging cables can "walk away", although rarely, it is nice to have access to an immediate replacement.

Great video. I do want to make a small comment of biodegradable wet wipes. Biodegradable does not mean compostable. Biodegradable means that the products will break down onto smaller pieces but will leave toxic chemicals and substances behind while compostable means that the products will break onto smaller pieces but it will also break down onto humus and carbon and will break down with the help of microorganisms and worms creating a good fertilizer while biodegradable will not break down with the help of microorganisms.

I'm surprised you brought the whole medical cabinet with you, but you don't pack a tourniquet! I usually only bring a few pills rather than bottles, and I try to pack an Israeli when I can. I try to reduce weight as much as humanly possible, since my back isn't so good anymore.

I can relate to the back issue for sure. Gave it a lot of thought. Paramedic for four years town of 30, 000 used one twice. Urgent care over forty years never used one. I have a CAT in my base camp medical kit. I personally don't see the the need ....of course me saying that I'll fall out of tree now and need it. The kit you saw weighs about 7 Oz and the kit is 5x7 inches. Very small.

Be careful with using afrin if you have hypertension. Will increase blood pressure. Just FYI 😊
@SurviveOutdoors3 ай бұрын
In 43 years one spray of Afrin will NOT cause elevation of BP concern at all. Staking my life, reputation and everything on it. Using it twice a day nasally is much much different then what I am referring in this video. Talking about topical use for minor bleed.
@Sunflower1393 ай бұрын
@@SurviveOutdoors you use direct pressure to stop bleeding. That’s from my husband who was ER RN. Any drug used outside of manufacturer use is drug abuse
@SurviveOutdoors3 ай бұрын
@Sunflower139 lmao I'll dance a bit longer with you. It is called off label use and is totally acceptable. Example eye drops frequently and safely used in ears ear drops never used in eyes. Aspirin works great as a topical for warts. The list is endless and used in the ED which I worked and urgent care for decades. Ask him I am sure he will agree. Direct pressure fails we must move to another intervention. This is a survival/wilderness medicine site. We look to and give advise in wild settings with unfortunate outcomes. Be safe good luck.

While this is a well done video with common sense stuff, I have to ask, with todays cellphone technology, why do people feel the need to carry so much “survival”stuff just for a couple hour day hike? I know you mentioned you like to carry the extra weight for strength training and exercise, which is totally fine. I see so many video’s with people packing so much stuff for a simple day hike, that I have to question why??? With the ability to use your cellphone to call for help, it’s seems redundant, unless you like playing Jeremiah Johnson, lol. Now, if you’re in an area without cell service, then it makes a lot of sense. Case in point, where I hike, I have cell service so I only carry the following (in either a Fanny pack, sling bag or small backpack): water bottle, small boo boo kit, some type of SAK, possibly a belt knife, handkerchief, small battery bank and charging cord. Well done mentioning in the video description of doing what I consider the most IMPORTANT thing you can do and that is telling someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back. It is extremely rare that I hear anyone say this. My father taught me this 40 years ago when I started deer hunting with him. Finally, sorry for the rant and I mean no disrespect, I just don’t understand carrying all the extra stuff, lol. Thank you

Hate to state the obvious but you answered your own question. I frequently go to the Tetons zip on cell service, Estes and RMNP zip cell service. He'll Shawnee national park in illinois sketchy as he'll cell service. Great question however you answered it perfectly.

Anybody can twist an ankle, cut themselves accidentally, or fall and break bones. Mobile phone signal is usually good where I typically hike, but can fail at any time. Whether you are on your own or with a group, it is wise to be prepared. Having said all that, I don't need my hiking kit while in town (I have urban EDC for this)! 👍😀

The most common injuries while hiking are mobility injuries; strains, sprains, and breaks. Therefore, were I to be injured on the trail somewhere, I carry the gear I need to survive a night or two out of doors while awaiting rescue or attempting a self-rescue. That means being able to insulate myself from the ground, having waterproof and windproof shelter, being able to create a microclimate around myself with a blanket of some sort, having water, having the means to purify and carry more water, having at least minimal food and hydration aids (think CLIF bars and Gatorade powder packets), the ability to make fire, and a small medical kit alongside something to address a major bleed.

Those wipes are porous and fragile, U will get more poop on your fingers, just a wet Bounty paper towel sheet works better.
@SurviveOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I double it up. Have not had an issue. Using one you are correct not that fragile. I like them a lot and it saves space.
