First night take everything and pack it. The nurses will restock and then take all that. On the robe: I had a robe I didn't care about in my hospital bag and I'm really glad I had it. I (believe it or not) got cold during labor and wound up wearing it until we got to recovery and realized it was covered in baby goo so we just threw it away. On the swaddles: my hospital exclusively used HALO swaddles and sent us home with a brand new one. It wound up being our favorite swaddle! On Stephen: My husband thought it was major overkill when I pushed to bring 2 pillows and a blanket with us. Immediately when we got into the recovery room and saw that his bed was just a windowseat with a cushion on it and a thin blanket (no pillow), he thanked me for pushing him to bring his own. On the breastfeeding pillow: I saw lots of back and forth about this online - some people saying you didn't need it and other people saying it was essential. I didn't end up bringing it and now that bf is established and I use it all the time I thought it was dumb not to have it in the hospital. I'll definitely be bringing it for the next baby. I saw somebody else mention that you might want a snack bag and I agree! For me, I had gestational diabetes so I wanted to have snacks I'd been craving but wasn't able to eat and I ended up having my husband feed me cheetos while we were doing skin to skin. But even outside of that, giving birth during COVID meant we were paranoid about being exposed in the hospital and having snacks in the room meant we were able to keep our exposure to other people at a minimum.

I love watching these videos as I had my first (and only so far) child almost two years ago...and I packed SO MUCH STUFF. And I literally used less than half. I was in the hospital 6 days total. I used my extra long cell phone charger, my own pillow from home, two night gowns (1 gown til I gave birth, then I threw that gown away as it was covered in blood), and then 1 gown til I left. My going home outfit was the same outfit I wore to the hospital. My son was a preemie (34 weeker) so I knew that he wouldn't be going home with me, so I didn't really pack anything for him. But the hospital has almost everything you need. Including toiletries! The less you bring, the less you will have to bring home with you. For our next kid I think I am going to just have a small duffle bag with a phone cord, two labor gowns, and chapstick.

Hi Sierra, In addition to all of the thoughtful packing you’re doing, I offer a few things to “unpack”. 1. Let go of expectations. Things may not go the way you expect. That’s ok. It’s not about how the baby gets here, it’s that she gets here. 2. Control. It’s ok to feel nervous/afraid/out of control. I don’t know if other moms here have talked about this, but labour made me feel out of control of my body and it scared me. As someone who likes to be in control, it was very disconcerting. The cool thing was that once I did let go, my body took over and it’s wisdom was deep and powerful. 3. Sleep. You will be tired and need to rest after labour. But the nurses will wake you up to feed your baby. This is training for when you go home, and motherhood tbh. It’s ok. You’ll get used to it. I didn’t post this to be negative in any way. I just want to leave a few words of wisdom, things I wish I had heard before giving birth. I’m wishing you, Stephen and baby girl a wonderful birth. 💞

Might I suggest a few more items: -Extra long charging chord -You're own exercise ball -a hot water bottle (I loved this for my back, it really relieved the pain) - A pen (soooo much paperwork) - Protein bars or easy packaged snacks - You're own soft blanket that you really like because a) you are going to be cold after expending all that energy b) you are going to be annoyed by things that aren't your touch your brand new baby! P.S. he is definitely going to want his own pillow and blanket cause labour can be up to 30 hours etc. You are both going to want to sleep!

Hey, Sierra! You have no idea how much I’ve enjoyed all things pregnancy in the past few months. I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant with a boy. I actually had a miscarriage last summer and was able to learn and be comforted from your openness about your experience. I’m so thankful that God has given us both heathy babies and just wanted you to know I’m praying for you! Thank you for your content and your heart, you are affecting real lives! Also... as a first time mom, I would LOVE to know more about what your buying and preparing! Thank you so much! 💗

I brought so much clothing my first time..... was mostly naked other than the diaper for most of the time😆 I'm a modest dressing girl too, but all sense of modesty is gone once you have a human exit your body, and 10 strangers (nurses and doctor) are watching you do it.😅

My 3rd baby i stayed home to long because he was my last so I wanted to do home labor a much as possible because I knew if I went id get an epi. I literally showed up in what I was wearing and that is it. He was born in like 15 min of getting there so I didn't have much time lol. Everything for baby was brought up the next day and I showered changed my clothes and was discharged 36 hours later lol 🙃

A tip I saw when I was pregnant and packing hospital bag was to put clothes etc in sealable bags and labelled. So the partner or midwife can find stuff in the bag. Rather than having to flap around and get everything out the bag. As your the one who packed the bag you know where everything is and they don’t. Plus if something happens to u at least they’d be able to find stuff and quickly if needed xxx

Having a snack bag is good. I remember getting hungry in the middle of the night while nursing my babies. Also, bring chapstick. Hospitals have such dry air.

I packed a rechargeable book light when I had my second. It was easy to clip to the hospital bassinet for diaper changes and to check on baby without turning on a bunch of lights. Also a goodie basket for the nurses and doctors in L&D. It's not a necessity but they definitely appreciate it 😊. Best of luck Mama

bring snacks and chapstick!! the cafeteria closes after a certain time and vending machines aren’t great. i also would suggest bringing shampoo you will be so sweaty and gross trust me you will want to shower. i had an epidural and couldn’t move and ended up throwing up on myself multiple times and it got in my hair. but that’s just my experience and preference!
@samanthakb3 жыл бұрын
I ended up using: nightgowns (mostly just stuff with low necklines i could pull down easy), a thick cardigan (it was chilly in the hospital and it was great for just an extra blanket layer), chapstick, hair ties, shower and toiletries, iPad and PORTABLE battery. Trust me, The portable battery comes in handy! Otherwise you have to have extra long charging cords and you don’t wanna get in the way of nurses but you still want your phone or iPad near you. I was so happy i took it. I packed a lot of extras like pads, underwear, that kind of thing but the reality is everything is kind of a mess after you give birth and it’s just sort of nice to be able to ditch it at the hospital or throw it away or something like that.

I totally packed a bunch but honestly didn't really use any of it. Because of COVID, my husband and I were in the hospital for less than 48 hours. I didn't shower and I stayed in the hospital gown the whole time. I totally used everything the hospital provided too! But, you never really know how things are going to go and how you're going to feel! So great to be prepared!

Sierra, if you think that a shower running over your head and through your hair feels nice, please take your shampoo and conditioner! It was one of my favorite moments in my post partum days in the hospital. By the time I took a shower, it had been 3 days since I had taken one at home. I needed it and it was really relaxing, soothing, and mentally healing.

I'm curious what the birth weights were for you and Stephen. I feel like more 0-3 month and less preemie clothes is needed. Better to have clothing that's a bit too big than too small.
@hannahbustos69513 жыл бұрын
I think the reason she packed more preemie is because of the umbilical cord knot situation!

Hi I've never been pregnant so definitely take my advice with a grain of salt but here's a few things I've seen in other hospital bag packing videos that you might want to include!! -shampoo and conditioner, I know you said you didn't think you'd want to wash your hair, but you and/or baby girl could potentially be there longer than expected, especially if you have to be induced early, and it might be long enough that you want to do a full shower! Hospitals provide basic shampoo/conditioner (usually a three in one) but since you're doing the curly girl method, you might want your own! -something to keep your hair out of your face (hair ties, scrunchie, headband, etc), labor is intense and you'll probably want your hair out of your face -snacks, hospital food can be expensive, plus the food court most likely won't be open 24/7 and with labor and bonding with a newborn, stephen could be eating at super weird hours when nothing except vending machines are open -a cardigan/zip up jacket/robe incase you get cold!! -a blanket, I know personally that I'd want a comfy, fuzzy blanket instead of just the hospital ones which sometimes kinda suck but this is definitely a personal preference thing -extra reusable face masks, which sounds really weird but you know, covid -this might sound weird too, but I've seen parents mention bringing a small activity to do while you wait to have the baby. If you both have your phones that might be overkill but I've seen a lot of people bring a journal, book, or activity book with them -something you can plug multiple devices into! this is my #1 recommendation for any sort of travel, and I think a power strip or some other kind of adapter might be helpful if there's limited outlets and you have your all's phones, apple watches, and vlog batteries that all could use a charge

I was born a month early, like 2 days after my mom’s baby shower, so I def will be also packing early when I am pregnant. It stresses me out when I see people on KZbin say they’re waiting until they’re like 2-3 weeks out from their due date cause I’m like yeahhhh not everyone makes it to that point 😂
@ativc52323 жыл бұрын
I started organizing everything by week 30 (so if we needed to rush, we could grab it and throw it in a bag on our way out), by week 33 I had it all packed and ready to grab, and by week 36, our bags were in the car and had a 2nd set of bags in my mom's car (I work with my parents, so it was in case my water broke while I was working)
@rebekahmoore39653 жыл бұрын
I'm starting to pack at 30 weeks just in case. My mom always went early or exactly on time, plus I have too many medical problems to take the risk.
@accioxheart3 жыл бұрын
That first shower the morning after baby is born is GOD LEVEL. I would take some yummy smelling travel stuff cause it just feels so effing good even though it’s a hospital shower. This is also coming from someone who was in labor for 3 days though so maybe I’m biased, but I wouldn’t skip bringing shampoo/conditioner. Knowing it’s possible for you to be induced early, and how long my induction took, I even more so recommend all shower supplies. For you and Stephen both. Truly. Labor can take a long time. ❤️
@maryjopurtell72683 жыл бұрын
My birthing instructor/nurse told us to take what ever they offered you for supplies. All your best plans/brands Baby Girl might not like. I was going to breast feed my first but he couldn’t latch on- ended up pumping and using to cooler bag from the formula to transport the breast milk

My son was born with what they called a Batur knot in his umbilical cord but because I wasn't high risk they never caught it. So he was full term actually 6 days over his due date and weighed 4 lb 5 Oz. I'm glad your doctor is keeping a close eye on this. Hugs.

I wore the hospital gown the entire time and didn't change my clothes until the outfit I went home in. The hospital gown unsnap at the shoulders for breastfeeding access, I didn't have to worry about it getting dirty from leaking milk or bleeding, and they're always checking you to make sure you're healing properly. I had a vaginal delivery but a significant tear and they needed to keep checking down below to make sure the stitches looked OK. If you have an epidural they'll also need to keep checking your back. It was all just easier to leave the gown on!
@centrality243 жыл бұрын
I totally overpacked on clothes. I’m just like you, I try to be practical but also like to be prepared with options. I ended up staying in the hospital gowns the whole time until I changed into my going home outfit on discharge day, which I was fine with using for photos. I also never touched the underwear or adult underwear I packed. I only showered once in those 2 days but let me tell you I felt like a brand new woman after 😂
@greyschu34763 жыл бұрын
I just really want to applaud you for knowing yourself so well and preparing in your own way. I know a lot of times women can get shamed out of bringing make up or comfort items that seem unnecessary, but if it’s going to help you feel more human and comfortable it’s better to have it. Also thanks for being open about your plan to have an epidural! I think it’s cool to normalize all different choices when it comes to pain management during labor and delivery.

Dermaplast is a must as well for postpartum to use with the water bottle. And tucks pads to line your pad with. I also used all the frida mom products for postpartum. They make witch hazel pad liners, foam, and pad ice packs. It makes it feel so much better. Also, the hard core overnight pads are needed as well. I used those with the frida mom disposable underwear. I’m telling you, frida products for mom and baby are my favorite. Also, a good suggestion that was given to us was for my husband to take some kind of button down shirt for easy skin to skin for him and the baby as well.

Make sure you pack shoes and socks that are stretchy and a size bigger because my feet got really swollen/puffy after giving birth. I had only one pair of slippers that actually fit me after birth. I'm so glad you finally said you were packing your pillow. I am so glad I got that advice because the pillow suuuuck in the hospital. Maybe back a small canvas tote or save a little room in the small additional bag so you pack up all the hospital freebies. I agree with everyone saying bring snacks, but also.... A pumping bra!!! Pumping in the hospital after each feed is the best way to get your milk to come in faster and the lactation consultants will probably bring in a pump with all the necessary parts and show you how to use it, and they can rig some mesh panties into a pumping "bra" but I found it super helpful to just be wearing a pumping bra that was also good for nursing. I used the kindred bravely sublime bra. Also, bring one cozy blanket for you or stephen. My husband and I traded off on the nice blanket because one of us would be cold while the other was hot. It was a nice, cozy, luxurious piece of home.
