Rotring mechanical pencils are where it's at :) The Kaweco special is also very nice, but basic. I think almost all mechanical pencils these days will have plastic tubing inside, but you could also look into vintage pencils that have all metal innards. The drawback will be that it's unlikely to be available below .9mm lead width. Potentially a clutch pencil would be all metal inside and the tip could be sharpened like a regular pencil. Just some ideas from a mech pencil aficionado :)

I'm in the same camp as you, I only have fountain pens which can be refilled and repaired ad infinitum, no single use cartidges either. They're made of metal too (brass sport twinsies) so no worries dropping them as long as the cap is on at least! There's something romantic about having the same few pens for decades and seeing the wear!

Those beautiful Tom Pens are intriguing me! So beautiful. Are you familiar with the brass and black tip protectors that black wing makes for their pencils so you dont mark up your pencase? I use them and they're great quality ❤
