New follower and new painter here. I’m so curious about your swatches and the shapes/overlapping areas you have. Do you have any videos on why you swatch like this?

sorry i dont have a vid but to explain, i swatched them like that because i had a small flat brush in hand and put paint down in masstone first… and then picked up clean water and overlapped a few of the strokes so the paint is diluted. that way im able to so the paint in masstone and when washed down. hope that helps

Ahh, another “Eye Candy” clip! Apologies in advance as I get all “Pigment Nerd,” I promise I don’t meant to sound preachy! Just a heads up to anyone concerned with lightfastness, a couple of these contain fugitive pgmts in them (per Kim Crick): *SHADOW VIOLET LT & PRZYBYSZ’S GREY.* (Oddly, Shadow Violet is fine…just the LT one that’s wonky.) 😢 Much as I love them, I wouldn’t want anyone who sells their work/is otherwise concerned to order w/o knowing; like so many lines, their LF ratings don’t reflect their reality. Thanks as always, Vee…your videos & shorts are always a pleasure!

Why all the blooms? Is it the paint, paper or technique? Is it possible to swatch without them in a simple gradation? There are so many different kinds and qualities of paint now 😅

not paint, not paper. blooms are due to technique. which is A LOT of water. i usually paint with juicy washes so when i swatch, i tend to do the same. however, yes, it is certainly possible to swatch wiithout blooms as i have done many times in my pigment comparison videos and dot card swatch videos. hope that helps
