Quick tip because they help a lot- those ImPress manicure press on nails (the ones that don’t have glue but adhesive on them already) are awesome in the event that you don’t have time for the nail polish to dry. That, and the nail polish top coat called “Out the Door” id you do have time for the nail polish to dry but not much. I swear it makes the nail polish dry in like 10 minutes. Also, I find that liquid lipstick (I like the one by Too Faced) is really good because you can literally paint it on and it won’t melt or go anywhere if the family accidentally touches the deceased’s face. MonsterManda89 I’ve never thought about using press on nails! Now that you say this it makes so much sense. Thank you for sharing that with me... I have one two faced liquid lipstick (for my personal use) so I agree it doesn’t move on me and it’s even hard to remove!!! I never thought about adding it to my mortuary kit but will definitely do that now. I really appreciate you sharing your tips with me. I would like to connect with you on Facebook or IG! FD were so thoughtful and let me apply makeup on sister and mother. I used they’re own personal foundation and eye makeup. They looked so natural! Got many compliments. 😊💕

Do you let the family see the deceased before you do the viewing in case they don’t like the makeup?? That way you can change it? I’m trying to get into mortuary science and have a meeting in a couple weeks with a funeral home. An advice? They had mentioned they may have transfer technician and director assistant positions available so I am very excited for this meeting!

Usually the family will arrive an hour before it’s open to the public to view the deceased privately. It’s rare for a family to ask for the makeup to be removed or changed but it has happened. I always go the natural route! Good luck on your meeting. I would say to lean more toward the position that stays in the funeral home. Transfer tech would be picking up the deceased from their place of death and the assistant will do a variety of tasks.. ask for a description of both positions and go with the one you’ll learn more from. Definitely an exciting time!! 💕

My meeting today went great. I was able to see some part of embalming, cremation, some deceased ready to be dressed. They seem to really want me to work with them. I have one math class to meet the requirements for the alternative education requirements. I am wondering what the test is for director. What the state test is like and what kind of questions are on that.

Why are mortuary cosmetics used if regular cosmetics provide the same purpose ?

I need to do an updated video on mortuary cosmetics. Mortuary makeup is non thermogenic which means they don't rely on skin warmth to spread evenly. It can cover heavy discoloration like dark bruising. I have learned to love it but some people don't know how to use it well so it looks caked on.

Sorry about your grandma! Wound filler is sold by the Dodge chemical Company. Usually any wax work/restorative work will be done by a funeral director/embalmer before you arrive to apply cosmetics.

Michael M Hello! I’ve never heard of a makeup artist throwing away makeup after one use. Everything is washed and disinfected and I have one use sponges & applicators. Don’t be grossed out everything is clean lol

Evie Vargas The girls select their own usually Mac, or the brides favorite,,, when the session is over. The girls keep the make up they bought. Some foundations can we wiped with alcohol ans tissues.... no sharing . Brushes get soaked and dried...

I need to do an updated makeup kit video. I use different applicators or if Inuse brushes I clean them between people. For example if the deceased passed from covid there can possibly be cross contamination if I used the same brushes. I usually use a spatula to remove product and don't double dip. Hope that makes sense!

I was thinking of becoming a mortician make up artist I’ve been to esthetician school but I haven’t got my license bc of covid and I have experience in airbrush and makeup .. would I just need to go get my esthetician license or go to a institution and major in Funeral Science ?

Hello! Usually funeral directors and embalmers apply the cosmetics but sometimes they do hire out. You can visit local funeral homes and offer your services to see if there’s a market. If funeral Service is your passion then you should definitely attend mortuary school.
