Boiling the water for the instant mashed potatoes with a couple of bouillon cubes makes them a rather nice treat. Match the bouillon cubes to whatever protein source you are putting in with the mash and hey presto, a meal fit for a king. :-) The same goes for rice. Can be used on pasta as well, but not to the full effect as it soaks up less water.

An item I don't see many people taking is a good extra warm, thick, deep cap that keeps your head and ears warm when sleeping and when riding on cold mornings. Deep so you can pull it over your eyes and nose at night (leaving nostrils free to breathe just below the rim, but basically covering the nose). Very helpful for a good night's sleep.

I use this cap and it is long enough to come down to the nose: amzn.to/2ush3E7 Also these gloves: amzn.to/37UqnOZ and this neck gator: amzn.to/2PDTVdt As you can see, I'm a big fan of merino wool :D

Nice video. I personally use my triangle frame bag for water my water bottles mostly. Cause on a hot day you could go though like 3 in a hour or so and if you go though like dirt and you get dirt in your month, plus they are in easy access. You can't use the water bottle that been expose to the dirt to get the dirt out of your month. And yeah I learnt that the hard way.

I know many that have water bladders there as well. Nice flexible place for many items.

Looking at getting an ECR, sorting out the sizing at the moment. Enjoying your vids, only thing I’d add is a good knife and maybe a small GB hatchet. You did say you couldn’t have fires so maybe that’s why it’s off the list.

The size of your sleeping bag blew my mind considering how high the rating is. I’d highly recommend moving towards a down quilt. A 20° enlightened equipment quilt will weight so much less and take up half the room if not less.

Yeah it's an old bag I got for a backpack trip in the 90's. I need to replace it and have just been going with what I have for now. Down quilt, however, is in my future ;)

Thanks for the excellent video. The wool top and bottom that you sleep in - what brand, if I may ask? Do you like them? Are there others you would recommend considering? It's so good to be warm, dry, and comfortable, especially at night. A great night's sleep is pure gold.

The Wool Top: amzn.to/2TfrG5B Wool Bottom: amzn.to/2I0a6ND I'm very happy with both. I find them warm and dry. Not scratchy at all.

Sometimes I like to skip all the cooking, pots, fuel, cleanup, etc., and use slider-lock bags with homemade MREs inside, and other cooking-free foods. Saves so much time, gear, hassle. I can see why militaries have gone that route. There are plenty of good foods that make it work.

I like this idea, but I do enjoy a hot cup of coffee in the morning, so if I'm going to have a stove, hot meals aren't too hard to put together.

Throw a couple of packs of Hot hand warmers . They are good for 8 + hours . Multi uses for them besides keeping hand warm . Might also want to consider a can of bear spray . It’s just not for bears FYI . Great video as usual. What’s your partner pack ? Nice to see the new bike been getting broke in .

My buddy Jerry is next up to do a video what he carries on his Fargo. Good idea on the bear spray actually. I know many that talk of it's "multi" uses. ;)
