Samsung Curved LED TV Teardown, What's inside an Curved TV? I scrapped out this 55in Samsung LED TV UA55JU7500WXXY found while street scrapping for e-waste.
Pretty much the same as a regular LED TV but still interesting to see and being the first Curved LED to be fully scrapped out, I guess someone had to do it sooner or later.
Check out some Scrapping tools, safety gear, metal melting furnaces, crucibles and ingot moulds that I use or recommend.. www.amazon.com...
Keep scrapping & have fun!

informative scrap thank you. I usually snap the LED strips and peel off the copper. The strip can then go in low grade boards and the copper "tape" into #2.

If I scrapped LED TV's out I wouldn't go that far into it, it would create a lot more rubbish, for me it's best to remove the boards, put the cover back on and send to the recyclng center

No arguments there. I don't have the turn over you do, so not a huge issue for me.

I use the white rigid plastic to cover a few of my work surfaces. The next door neighbor gave me 5.00 dollars for one sheet of it. He puts it down on a table(washes it clean with bleach first) when he cleans his fish catch. So yeah those mylar sheets are handy for a quick work surface covering.

Plastics can be worthwhile if you can get them in large quantity and sorted at least by type (color for higher value). Plastic can be ground up with ordinary shredder like precious plastics use. A while ago China lowered the limit on contamination 0.5% for its plastic imports. At least the rigid plastic sheet is a light diffuser and can be made to build cheap studio lights. Plastic can be worth up to 1k $ a tonne. Depending on how much work you want to put in. Cases usually are made of ABS but can be PC or PS as well. Wonder could there be a market for those plastic sheets in TVs as is for reuse in lower quality products. A plastic that is not black can be sorted by an Optical spectrometer - there could be a local buyer for hard plastic.

I've always wondered why you tend to not pick up flat-screens, and now I see why. It's so interesting to see that some of this newer tech has less value in raw materials. Very informative video.

When I did my first curvy I thought it just had to be better than its flat counter parts. It was a BIG disappointment, because it was worse than the 4 or 5 flatscreens I has done that day previous to the curvy. I try to save the best for last. It didn't work that day!! I'm glad that you put the vid out so others wouldn't have the same feeling I had. I picked mine, (which I talked about when you picked up the curvy) a bit before you, so I knew before the vid last year what to expect. I got "lucky" one day last March!

Every LED contains one or more gold bonding wire. Just have a look under a microscope, there you can see it. I collect all of them. One day there will be a recyclingmethod for those.

Tell me if I'm wrong but on any Display being *LCD or OLED* they have finger strip boards and what I believe has precious metals are *The gold flashing on the surface, the MLCC-s, The 1 flat pack/IC chip* and the last thing witch I noticed that you never picked up or you didn't know but also the *silicon chip* that's in the *ribbons that connects the finger strip boards to the screen,* I'm sure those chips have *silver* in them and they are *easy to separate from the ribbon,* I do it myself and personally I like the patterns on the chip when I separate it, i hope this helped you *if you didn't know already*

Hey Ben too bad the acrylic was opaque. You could have used it to protect the back window of your van from getting smashed. The older lcds have transparent acrylic which is ideal as you can still see through it. just mount it with double sided tape or selastic. or screw it in place no broken windows :)
@eWasteBen
@eWasteBen 6 жыл бұрын
I might try that, selastic might be the go, it would leave a good gap in between for some shock proofing.

Hey Ben, I will take off the boards and strips. The rest I leave together and take in as scrap steel. With the screen on gives it a lot of weight. I don't know if you can get away with it, but my yard allows me.

With TVs these days basically being a computer, wouldn't the main board be worth a bit more? it must have a CPU and memory etc comparable to a cheap laptop board?
@eWasteBen
@eWasteBen 6 жыл бұрын
Well it's what I would grade as high grade which is a little above mid grade, in the states it's graded as a peripheral board. So less than half of a laptop boards value. Sure they have a couple chips here and there but those chips are small and overall not much PM recovery on the whole board.

The Led's might be fun to play with (shove em in solar light maybe) but looks like a standard display inside, I don't get the fascination with making these displays odd shapes, Manufacturers must be desperate for sales. The large sheets of plastic from inside can be useful but from my experiments they appear very brittle and not as durable as perspex.
