Do you think the codes inside of the Prerelease packs could go back to giving players a sealed event entry? The prerelease event entry codes were what made me want to start playing arena in the first place- it let me play more limited on my own time! These six pack bonuses don’t feel like a good reward in comparison.

They use to give you sealed entry level, but they changed it.

@@mark1A100 The arena codes are a way to get people on to a new platform and spend even more money. I wouldn’t play or spend money on arena if it weren’t for the prerelease codes letting me play actual games of magic. I would have lost interest after completing the tutorial and gone back to being paper only. Plus, if you went to a paper prerelease, you gave WOTC 30 dollars. Could they not give you a code to get something which is free with enough daily quests anyway?

Prerelease is probably the best Magic experience any player can get, whether new or old! I really liked how you explained your choices for building your deck from your sealed pool, I feel this will be helpful for people who have never played sealed before. The only thing this video is missing is the final touch of deckbuilding: the manabase. It would have been nice to see you explain how many of each land you put in your deck. But even without this, great video!

I like the stamp on the left. Balances with the mana cost symbols so you're not visually forced entirely to the right side of the card.

I personally hope we are able to go back to the old prerelease stamps. I understand the shift during COVID times, but as the world gets back to normal some nostalgia would be nice. Also, I always love looking at my old prerelease cards, reminiscing, and knowing where I was on 14-15 January 2017. Good memories.

Honestly I kinda miss the original checklist card formatting, with the "fill in the circle" method of selection. Obviously its a much more limiting format, especially when a set uses so many double-faced cards, but I have a certain nostalgia for the old fashioned way :) I like the promo stamp where it is, especially because it aligns with the old printing method

Hey Gavin, what's going on with the the Upgrades Unleashed Precon? Reddit says the 2nd Mossfire Valley was supposed to be a Mythic Planeswalker, which was cut, not a basic land. Is that correct? :c

My guess is that Dominaria United will fully reveal the phyrexian threat and plot and that's where the Gruul and Dimir swords will be printed but that is just what makes sense to me

My guess is that we’ll see them in Modern Horizons 3, given that we saw two in MH1 and one in MH2.

Mirrorshell Crab is like Cold-Water Snapper from Dominaria, which was a fantastic card in limited, but with upside of channel that counters and being an artifact. It's a great carrier of auras and equipment. I don't think I'm overrating it when I say it's a candidate for the best common in the set.

There's a lot of strong commons in this set: Mirrorshell Crab, Kami's Flare, Master's Rebuke, and so on

Hey, thanks for the video. Is there any chance mtg will start having paper boosters like flesh and blood? Those paper packs are alot easier on the ears for opening and are definitely better for the environment since they degrade real easy.

I do prefer the year stamp instead of the date one... The cherry on top of such an amazing set would have been to have neon color life color dice...

I’d prefer promo dates to be on the right side like they used to be. The other promo symbol (the magic logo) is also printed on the right side regularly, and it’s nice to be able to look at one side and see it’s a promo, especially because since the year date is a bit smaller than the old day date, if you’re not specifically looking for it I find it much easier to miss on the left. TOday I went to the first Pre_release since Zendikar Rising, it felt good finally seeing magic getting back from the Hell of Covid we had more interested people then pre-release packs, nice to see that people finally come back into the stores.

I think it’s wise to also try and look through the full set online to get moderately familiar with cards that are worth playing. You can identify them a little quicker.

Yes, absolutely! I hope to do more like this in the future. My top 3 nostalgic returns are Lorwyn, Tarkir, and Ulgrotha. Some of those will be harder than others. :)

At my prerelease I had 2 green enchantments to mana fix and the artifact that lets you search for a basic. So my sultai Ninjitsu never got mana screwed (but sometimes a mulligan was necessary)

This looks like such a cool set. looking forward to sealed and draft in paper and on arena. but gavin before I use my cash or wild cards do you ming telling me which cards the design team plans to nerf in alchemy and or ban in standard. With how consistant its become in recent sets I assume you guys keep a list of likely to problem cards ahead of time from playtesting

I really enjoyed getting to see your thought process here, especially since I feel like I'd play this sealed pool differently. W/B seemed a lot more appealing to me than B/G since, even though we have a low curve, we've still got those spirited companions and the dockside chef to give us enough fuel to get through the midgame. I'd probably play this as a more midrange-y list, with our removal spells keeping the skies clear and using those companions to crew the dragonfly suit to close out the game, no need to commit fully to an aggressive plan. But hey, I'm not a game designer, what do I know ;-)

Hey Gavin, I really liked the live prerelease deck building video and hope one is made for every new set. I'm not a newbie to sealed limited, nor am I an expert at it, but I still took away quite a bit from the video. I was concerned when I heard Kamigawa was going to have a neon cyber punk aesthetic (I thought it would be too obnoxious and cheesy) but man you guys did an EXCELLENT job of adding some of my favorite pop culture references while paying homage to the old Kamigawa (shrines, sagas of kiki/umezawa, etc.) Loving the set and can't wait for prerelease. My only criticism about the video that I have is that it hurts to see the cards get bent in the top right corner when you place them down! >_

Man, if you're gonna open the packs like that, at least place each pack's cards crosswise in the stack so you can tell which pack was which... In all seriousness though, might take a tip from you on that one. Hopefully I'll get to go to prerelease this weekend, trying to get plans in place but nothing yet, unfortunately. Kamigawa is easily my most hyped set since I started playing Magic (which hasn't been but maybe 2 years) so I really want to go to prerelease for this one! Man, must be nice to get mtga codes for every prerelease packs. That means you get to play twice. Here in the SEA region you don't get any codes. That's why I will never spent any money on mtga until those are fixed.

as both sides are foil, in this specific case I think each curling cancels the other in a way that it doesn't curl at all or as much as a single sided foil.

Is there any reason that the pre-release promo has checklist cards and no longer has tokens? (why not both) I really like getting one of each token inside the pre-release pack to help clarify board states. I didn't get a zombie token in MID , which made playing my games a bit more frustrating.

Haven’t played much limited… just a couple questions.Do you count white/blue cards (or any color really) that tap an opponents creature as removal? Also when splashing a color is it best to just splash removal pieces?

Don't coun't tappers as straight up removal but definitely as interaction. The cheaper the tapper and the activitaton the better it performs usually. I would say splashing for the most part is not worth it, if you don't have the manafixers for it. 9/8 mana bases already aren't great and adding a third color doesn't make it better... green sometimes can facilitate free splases and dual lands help a lot. Removal can be something you splash for, especially premium catch all or really efficient removal. The best things to splash are definitely bombs, meaning cards that win you the game on their own, but even than no bomb is good enough it screws over your mana base

Hi Gavin, maybe you read this comment and can answer me why wizards forces swiss wpn stores to play with german cards and exclude many people that want to play prerelease and are excluded because of language barrier and because we buy 90% cards in english otherwise. @@chessgeek40 that’s what I figured, wasn’t able to check the card text after watching the video, but the rat ninja that makes it 1 less to use abilities of ninjas and adds +1/+1 to each ninja you control.

I think you're right and splashing red was a bit of a risk, but you've got so much removal, so I think made the right call. :) I'd definitely be interested in seeing you do more deck building videos like this in the future, whether it's for sealed or for a constructed format.

i uderstand you had to change the stamp but having 2022 in all pre release cards during the year is very boring...You guys could have gone for the expansion simbol (at least would change the simbol every set) or what i like best is the stamp with name of the set written as the golden etched font as we had before with the date stamp

Gavin, I know this is not a set booster opening and that one is coming but will leave my comment on both nonetheless. I've watched couple NEO openings. Not that I expected to see a change about The List already. But these openings I saw just reinforced again how lackluster and frustrating the list is. I've seen about 5 openings of NEO and every The List cards opened were jank (with exception of two cards... and these were not 20$+ value cards). Here what I would like. I would not mind that The List be shorter (maybe 100 cards instead of 300) and that it changed with every sets to be on theme. Like here with NEO, The List could have been only cards that are reprints from OG Kamigawa block, Ninjitsu from other supplemental product, Shrines even from the recent CoreSet, you see anything Kamigawa related. But, please do push to have a change. As of now, The List removes fun from the booster fun experience in my opinion. It is not something that entice me to buy set boosters. I but this product anyway bit it is because I don't draft and that Collector are too expensive for my budget.

Im a noob so how many lands you usually run in these sealed events?

17 is standard. 16 if you're extremely aggressive and have nothing over 4 mana value. 18 if you are lacking good cards or have lots of colours or something. When in doubt go 17!
