EMD engines certainly seem well built. Detroit Diesel 92 series on down on the other hand are garbage. Low powered noisey leaking pails.

That is not a clutch that your looking at for the Turbocharger. It is a spring drive gear to turn the turbo. The overruning clutch is part of the turbo assembly. 2:00.

I work for Irish Rail and right now we have a 201 class locomotive in for a 1 million km exam...the 710 engine has been removed and is totally stripped down as far as the crankshaft.

Do they have 8 throttle notches like their locomotive counterparts, Or are they infinitely variable from idle to full throttle?

@@blackflagqwerty They are 600v generators so just controlled by the electronic Governor and loadsharing system. Direct/reduction gear marine EMDs are variable between 400-900 RPM with air or electronic throttles. Thanks for watching!

Usually 32,000 but in this case we went to 45,000 with no issues. These engines still retain many original 33 year old main and lower con rod bearings. Thanks for watching!

are there any rocker arm adjustments needed like on some car engines?

@@ct1600a exhaust valve lash and injector timing are set by adjusting the rocker arms. Exhaust valve bridges are Hydraulic lash on 645 series but still need adjustment.

4:46 7k hrs before a turbo needs replaced? we get 25k hrs and thats a minimum iv seen engines go 60k hrs on the same turbo

EMD vs the 7FDL....I agree. EMD vs the Gevo's.....I like them both. The EMD's do seem to load a bit faster.

@@ironken1796 That's their claim to fame I believe. If Commanded to emergency start ours are online in no more than 30 seconds, rather unheard of for our world. Ours are kept under constant heat and lube oil prelube also. Thanks for watching.
