In that case is just ignorance, Argentine public school education decayed a lot in the last decades and also there is more people (comparing with the past) that never ended high school. So, because of reggae, they will know that Jamaica is a country, but they truly will not know where is located, and like most Jamaicans are black, they will assume that is in Africa (the same happens sometimes with Haiti). I am talking especially about people under 35 years old without college education (and, like I said, sometimes even without complete high school). I'm from Argentina, regards.

I admire Xavier's candor in being able to keep a smile on his face when dealing a lot of the stereotypes surrounding Jamaicans overseas. Some of them are quite racist and therefore they're not a laughing matter. Xavier thinks these are "teachable moments" I think that they are "ignorant moments" and I choose to shoot down these situations and quite frankly not speak to these people again! But I guess that attitude is the reason why the "red carpet" is never rolled to me and also why I will never be invited to any of his KZbin interviews. But that's okay, we all can't be the same!!!

Argentine public education at school level declined a lot in the last decades, so is not a surprise for me that some people (especially young, or under 35 years old at least and without college education - many times even without complete high school -) don't know where is Jamaica, and like most Jamaicans are black, some people assume that is located in Africa (the same happens sometimes with Haiti). Great story! Hi! Do you happen to have a video about a Jamaican living in Uruguay? I need to contact a Jamaican who speaks English and Patois, for a reasearch paper I have to do. Thanks if you can help me! One thing, Castellano is the correct word for Spanish, actually (the word comes from "Castilla"....In fact in Spain they also speak other languges, such as Catalán, Vasco, Gallego , which are different. What we speak in Argentina and Uruguay is actually Spansih with different pronunciation and some special vocabulary according to the region. I guess the same happens in the case of most Latin American Spanish speakers. I am sorry for the question about which part of Africa is Jamaica for ! OMG!!!!!! I am very sorry and embarrased ...

Hey Oceej, nice to meet you. Thanks for watching and sharing your input. You're right KFC does sell American food, but in America. Let me explain. KFC primarily markets their own American KFC however the franchise menu varies from country to country depending on the palate of the people they are catering to. For example, KFC in Jamaica will sell sorrel and other solely Jamaican items on the menu at certain times when sorrel is clearly not American food. It's the same in each country, you probably won't notice a huge difference between Jamaican and American KFC as the food cultures are very similar. The KFC I went to in Brazil had a completely different menu I had no idea what to order and so it is in Argentina. There are KFC products that aren't available here because Argentines don't eat them. Like I said, spicy not available, barbecue, not available. Argentina's economy is incredibly weak. However, their culture and way of life makes it quite possible to advance in society if you so desire. How I cope is by working for foreign companies but that too has been restricted somewhat from the previous government and the current one is only adding more constraints.
@oceejekwam6829

@@KaliJahTernity Please excuse my delay in responding. Thank you for your reply. I don't know much about KFC and McDonalds as I try to avoid them I have had them in the past and the food strikes me as being bland. Thanks for addressing the issue of the Argentine economy. The economy is a key factor to draw immigrants to a country. Argentina is rich and the people are well educated. For reasons unknown to myself, the economy isn't handled well. Nevertheless all the ingredients exist for it to become one of the world's wealthiest nations. Most Argentines have a European background, the countries they come from like Spain, Italy and Germany are moderately to very successful. That culture of achievement will one way or another result in a stable prosperous nation eventually. Once again, thanks for your time and sharing your experiences. Best wishes to you.
@KaliJahTernity
@KaliJahTernity 3 жыл бұрын
@@oceejekwam6829 hey no problem at all. The economy is a big factor for immigrants. However I consider myself a visitor. I’ve visited many countries but the only way to truly experience life somewhere else is to live there. Jamaica is the perfect country for me and I’ll return when I have finished my journeys. What I mean is the factors that attract immigrants don’t alter my decisions as I’m going for the experience, not to for similar reasons as them. Argentina some time ago was a first world country, after the dictatorship it fell. Corruption is the answer you're looking for. The amount of taxes paid here is outrageous but then the economy doesn't reflect it. They all admit to you it's corruption but it doesn't bother them. As I said they have a relaxed view on life. Which also does not help a "culture of achievement." And those countries as many would say got their wealth by nefarious means, they achieved things, but many were slaughtered for their "achievements." In regards to education, as I mentioned in the video the average Argentine assumes the Caribbean is a part of Africa. A few persons know about the world outside the country, they know south America, the States, Europe and that's it. Does little to salvage any pride of the education system here which shouldn't be as all tiers of education here are free.

I got to that high school because I got a scholarship and frequently sold my belongings to get money for lunch. My brother and I would get old school shoes from the nurse when we didn't have any. I walked to uwi countless times once in the rain. The department took note of this and funded my first year's tuition after that I was able to get a job and fund second and third year. Growing up dirt poor in the ghetto is what prepared me for everything. I am also an entertainer and dancehall is one of the genres I practice, you can see a few teasers on my KZbin channel.

@@KaliJahTernity Thanks for informing me about your hometown of Swallowfield. I am not familiar with that area. It shows that there is a measure of social mobility. in Jamaica. I attended St Anne's School at North & Bond Sts in West Kgn.; received a scholarship to attend Immaculate Conception High School from 1959 to 1964; worked for the Min of Health on Slipe Pen Road until I migrated to the USA in 1969. In those days, I attended class at the UWI's Extra- Mural Dept in the Cross Roads area. I graduated from college in the USA. When I grew up in JA, I knew St Andrew as a fairly wealthy part of the Corporate area. Lastly, I understand the walking to and from school. We took the bus from ICHS in Constant Spring to Cross Roads, walk behind Carib Theatre and drop off friends at Avon Park Cres, walk past Ambassador Theatre on to home. I congratulate you on your achievements and continue to believe that upward mobility can be found in Jamaica for the serious and diligent ones. The task is to engage students early in education , skills training and entrepreneurship. Best wishes for your continued success!
