If you live in the major cities, cost of living is moderately high when you consider average local salaries. In the city center, rent can run between 500- 1000 USD or more per month (1br apartment). Public transportation is cheap (80 tenge/$0.19 on the bus). average taxi rate is about 500 tenge/$1.17. Grocery can run you close to $300 a month.

@@mediatationking2420 Prejudices exist, even among the locals. The Russian word for a person of the Black race is "neeger" (not spelling is correctly but u should be able to sound it out). People have used that word but it has never felt as though it was used in a racist manner. Many black men are here. Allegedly, some are here illegally so you are likely to get stopped by police for them to check your passport. The same goes for other races. You can't just come here and work (legally) without first being invited and receiving a work permit. I addressed the cost of living in another comment here but foreigners legally working in the country are paid well and most companies cover your rent and utilities ...even flights so your only responsibility is food.

More than that, it is very hard for anyone to remain indifferent to his performances because he has a way of pulling you in and connecting with you no matter which of the twelve languages he is singing in. Hello, I am a lecturer at UWI, St Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago. I am from Kazakhstan, ethnic Kazakh, and came here in 2016 to teach African History. I am married to an African from Mozambique since 1991, we met while students at Kazakh State University in Almaty in 1989. My husband was a part of a big black students' contingent in Kazakhstan from various African countries and Cuba. I think, this is how it was in the Soviet Union. We always had African and Cuban students, many of whom were black. Some of my friends' childern in Mozambique are students in Kazakhstan this very day. I suggest the teacher from Jamaica to spend some time learning history of Kazakhstan. Kazakh language is actually very easy, gluttoral sounds are not so difficult. The grammatical structure is the same as in all Turkic languages, and also Korean and Japanese. But the vocabulary is mostly Turkic and finno-ugoric. It's a question of desire and time. Good luck!

One of the issues that has been maiming Jamaica is the confusion around whether we should speak patios or standard English. The universal language of commerce is English. It is a blessing to be born in a country that naturally equips us to communicate. Here is a young lady that has developed mastery of English and is now able to sell her services as a teacher. Can we start embracing our gifts including language?
@islandvybz52453 жыл бұрын
Interesting you say that. My friend teaches English in Japan and was featured in newspapers for using patois and reggae to make his lessons interesting. So it goes both ways but get what you mean.
@independentc43483 жыл бұрын
@@islandvybz5245 everything is right about being multi-lingual. Luv di patios but we need to formalize by developing rules and structures around it. That’s a role for the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education. Don’t forget that Latin was England’s official language a few centuries ago as a carry over from Roman colonization of Britain I guess. We can do just like the Brits I.e. master Latin while developing our own. If someone is attempting to teach foreigners patios then it behoves us to start putting structure around it I.e. standardize the spelling of words and sentence structures. That will take years and possibly centuries to do but we need to be long term thinkers.
