As a Trinidadian living in the US and married to a Jamaican, I’ve always told her, they are a God bless people. Of course we go back and forth with our rivalry but it’s all in fun. It truly does warm me to see the integration of our cultures. In NY the entire Caribbean region is a melting pot. It’s unfortunate because of economic and social issues Jamaicans have to leave their beloved homeland but as a Trinidadian I know our culture is open to anyone and everyone with love. Trinidad & Tobago is all about a good time rain or shine, Sunday to Sunday. I say come, build, contribute and enjoy the lime. Yuh done know. 👊🏾🇹🇹

I'm a Trinidadian, living in Trinidad and an engineer. At uwi there is always a batch of Jamaicans in the engineering department. The first job I got I was trained by a Jamaican, our architect was also Jamaican. I have only positive things to say. The contributions made by your compatriots to the development of this wonderful, complicated place in any field is well and truly appreciated.

I am happy to hear that. My friend died there. He fell at work ( he was a security) went to the hospital. When the dr knew that he wasn't born there, he was sent to do his mri privately. After a week he put the monies together & got it done. He had bleeding in the brain. Sadly he subsequently died there. A surgery could have helped him, however he was denied quality health care. He came home in a box after 7yrs away from his family & friends.

Trinidad and Tobago is made up of soooo many cultures, that saying bye in an informal way would encompass a whole lot of parameters. It depends on the section of the society the persons involved come from, but the regular youth on the corner would use an expression like: later; in ah timing; yeh man. It also depends on the person he is saying goodbye to; to an elder he may say: yeh fadda or some other form of respectful salutation, like uncle, de boss or even meh doggy, or just 'respect'. In spite of how it may have come across, Trinis love Jamaicans, especially their music. Yes we have had our little rivalry: Reggae Boyz, Soca Warriors, Red Force, Talawahs, but all of us are Caribbean people when the smoke clear and the dust settle.

Anybody who knows anything about UWI knows that Jamaicans and other west indians come to T&T to do engineering, as St. Augustine is where the engineering faculty is located. So Jamaicans are always there. Things have changed as more jamaicans live in T&T and they know more about who we are. However in years gone by and even if you meet some jamaicans abroad right now, they have nothing good to say about T&T. Jamaica is the better and T&T is nothing. When we went to school in Jamaica back in the day you could not play calypso in a party. When you on campus and you were entitled to campus housing Trinis got nothing. We were denigraded by Jamaicans. However, now we see a lot of Jamaicans now realise that they can make a better living in Trini. Remember when there was an embassadorial squabble Jamaicans home and abroad went on a rampage to boycott all Trinidadian products, and they had nothing good to say about T&T, and that's not too long ago. These interviews show that 'times are a changing'. Good luck everyone.

Working class Jamaicans are coming to your country, not upper-class and middle-class Jamaicans. I'm delighted that many Jamaican students are no longer pursuing higher education at UWI in your country. In fact, they should stay away from (3) English speaking Caribbean xenophobic islands, which includes yours. This is coming from a proud Caribbean-American, from the U.S. I've observed the vitriol from your people towards others in the U.S., when people travel to your country, online, etc.

I don't like this man his vibe is off. What does he mean its a good thing no one knows he's Jamaican? Jamaica is the top league island Reggae is the #1 the education, agriculture, fresh food and so much more. As for him referring to my Beautiful Jamaican people as the way they talk not being "a good thing " we talk powerful and who no like it can....... I better stop 🤐 There are bad and good in Trinidad too just because they talk with a whiney American/ Northern England accent dont mean they don't have violence, some parts are even worse than Jamaica. Who is this guy???

@Zavii..I understand what you meant, but it sounded very blunt, although you may not have intended it to be. St. Helena and Tristan De Cuna are indeed places tucked away on the other side of the world, and will be very interesting to converse with not only a Jamaican, but anyone from the Caribbean. In my opinion, I doubt a Caribbean person lives on those two islands, but would love to know.
