Here's a topic. I've been learning for several about 7 months now. Granted I'm WAY better than when I first started and for the most part I'm having fun but sometimes I feel like I don't have the time to put into learning this instrument. I don't want to give up but I'm at the point now where I'm realizing you have to put in a lot of work into practicing to become a decent drummer. I'm just doing it for the fun of it. I have no friends to practice with and I have zero desire to be in a band or anything like that so there's not much motivation that way. As I already stated of course I'm way better now but sometimes I feel like I'm doing great and sometimes I feel like I still suck for all the work I've put into this. So the question is, do you have any ideas to keep me motivated and not to give up?

I’ve been there! Playing just for fun is the BEST reason to play. So keep it fun! Even small chunks of time can make a big difference. Maybe a practice time could be 10 min working on a new beat or fill and then 20 min of just playing to your favorite songs! For motivation find some of your favorite drummers if you haven’t already. Sometimes I watch videos of Nate Smith or Taylor Hawkins to get excited about drums again. Maybe ask your self “how can I keep this fun?”. Is it learning a new beat, playing a drum solo, buying a set of brushes and trying something new, etc… Cheering for ya!!
