What's It Like To Daily Drive Coilovers?

One thing I wish people would mention is the fact that coilovers have a lifespan of around 60k miles before they need to be serviced. The service for the Fortune Autos is $900 plus the fact that you got to pay to ship them. If your Subaru is your only car, which is the case for a lot of us, your car will probably be on jack stands for a month as you send out the coilovers and wait for them to return.

Good point, it's important to keep you stock suspension in case you need to get your coilovers serviced. For most people 60k miles is a lot of driving before that will be an issue

I've been putting off getting coilovers in my Impreza. I'm letting the stock suspension get beat up by PA roads until it's worn out. Maybe around 80k miles (spring of 2024) will be time to pull the trigger. It's good to know that modern coilovers are no longer too harsh on the street. Thanks for the review, Foster!

I have the Faction Fab coilovers on my ‘20 WRX and I can say they’d be great on a track car, but are way too stiff for my liking on a daily. The whole car gets tossed from bumps when on the highway. I’ll be on the market for a new set soon, and this video helped to sell me on the Fortune Auto 500s that have been on my radar.

I have the Cygnus Performance comfort series and I love them. They’re essentially a custom spec’d FA 500 series coilover, but it rides better than factory

What spring rate do you have on the front and rear?? I feel like picking the right spring rate is more important than brand but no one ever shares what spring rate they chose.

Been running on FA Gen7's since spring of this year and, despite being 8 clicks from full hard, the ride is a perfect balance for both the freeway and the backroad twisties. #FA500 #WRX #hatchgang

This is a dumb question. And I know this post is a year old. But can you tell me the height of your side skirts front and rear. Mine are lower than my bumpers and they scrape over almost anything. My main concern is the driveway to my apartment. It’s barely even sloped. Mine are about 4” above ground. I want to know the lowest they can be without scraping

FA’s and HKS are good daily coilovers. I like the HKS because they’re set right out the box.

Are they just the 500 (series) or are they the 510? Did you choose a 6k, 7k, 8k, or 9k spring and which brand (swift, hyperco, standard)? In addition to the coilovers, what other suspension mods are necessary because you swapped in coilovers vs spring/shock combo?

Foster had stock suspension before he installed the 500 series gen 8 coilovers. The only other suspension mods are lower control arms to get the rear alignment set properly
