The ally x while being better in terms of specs, it also just looks so much cleaner and simpler with the matte black finish. The white can look nice in certain circumstances and the original ally was one of them, but me personally I just disliked the white color alot. Also is that lamp supposed to look like a nuke or 😭

i mean i know the ally 2 will have the better screen probably, but the only thing that misses the mark for me is the screen is the size. everything else is fantastic. if you dont want to have a built in trackpad, at least make the screen big enough to touch things on it for quick gestures. the screen is too small. wish they went to an 8 inch screen. i can sacrifice oled for an 8 inch screen.

The one thing that will always draw me back to the steam deck is the control factor. Steam input is wild. Virtual menus etc. Enables me to play stuff with more complicated input schemes such as deus ex etc.

I dont remember if you ever tried a Ryzen 7745HS / 8845HS but the U series is 30 watts and after that more power is just wasted. The HS is 50-60 Watts with CPU and GPU fully utilized. I would love to see a vid about the differences of U vs HS. Not many companies sell the hs in a 14" at all.

Well the fact that deck users keep on watching ally videos and keep promoting it in every ally videos means that they are not satisfied with the deck. I mean I prefer ally than the deck that is why I don't watch any deck reviews . Deck users trying too hard convincong themselves that they get their money's worth. The limitation it has is what is keeping them watching ally, legion go and other handheld reviews. Seems like they are envious of what other devices can do. I don't see any switch owners doing this why? because they are satisfied with the switch only deck users do this.

One of your videos actually convined to go with the rog ally instead of the legion. It's really funny to me you mention the finals since that happens to be the same shooter I'm playing and was most concerned about running smoothly on the Ally. just look at rog ally performance for numbers, its literally the same APU. Performance was never the issue for the ally. It was battery life, shitty loose joysticks, poor quality control, defective micro SD reader, and painful RMA process. Those are the boxes you should be looking to check off for an upgrade to the OG ally.

just use AI to get the battery life like this For example, if your device draws 20W: Estimated time = 80 Wh / 20 W = 4 hours (OG z1e is 2 hours) 15tdp on og ally z1e was 20-22w from battery

Honestly I bought one a couple weeks ago, there are LITERALLY no software updates from the reviews. The one driver update for AMD bricked the fps counter and worsened performance overall. I returned it and preordered the ally x.

I suggest using ally x with lossless scaling its best of both worlds. 10 watts on elden ring is enough to bump it to 60. I think 10 watts on this thing will last 3 hours.

I had to spend HOURS researching all the possible monitors, projectors, cloud gaming solutions, eGPUs, Handhelds with native screens between 7 to 11 inch, etc etc before finally deciding what was right for my rather nomadic lifestyle. Even ended up discovering XR glasses like the new Viture Pro. Especially if you could divide the video by 1) price range and 2) degree of mobility, you just might interest a lot of people looking into this! It's possible to start gaming nowadays for, well free really, if you've got excellent internet. But is it worth it? Not for me, for me the Rog ally X + portable monitor is perfect. Then I can theoretically cloud game when necessary and possible. But there really are too many options nowadays. Thanks for seeing the opportunity to be helpful to the community just off of some youtube comments, man, appreciate the care ☺️

I have a Deck OLED and had an Ally. The 7” display of the Ally was the main reason I sold it, just felt too small for PC games. The Deck OLED’s .4” bigger display helps alleviate a bit better the eye strain I had on PC titles. I think >=8” is the sweet spot. I will wait for a LeGO 2 before making an upgrade, hoping they fix their software, speakers and ergonomics on the next iteration

I have SD OLED and GPD Win Mini 2024 which uses the same LCD panel as ROG Ally. I play mostly MHW:IB and the text on the SD is very pixelated and hard to see while on my Win Mini on the same 720p resolution, it is much sharper even though it is not an OLED. Both have the same setting (low).

It's still the same poorly designed handheld, it's just being carried solely by the 80Wh. 80Wh is a massive upgrade tho There is a possibility is might have more playtime overall than the Steam Deck OLED. Still doesn't have errything else the Deck does tho

First of all there are more things the ally do that the deck cannot do including playing all games in steam, playing all games in any platform, having 1080p screen for sharper image, and VRR to eliminate stuttering and screen tearing when a game drops under 60fps, and AMD fluid motion. If your talking about controls that is subjective depends on what games you play. Majority of people don't usually use track pads. Heck I don't even use my track pads on my laptop.

Higher specs do not make a better handhelds, it actually works the other way around I don't even bother arguing about compatibility. It's honestly barely an issue anymore, and bcuz you're not stuck with SteamOS. You can still put Bloatware 11 on it! At the cost of performance, power efficiency, privacy, and security.. Trackpads are a basic PC requirement. If not for playing certain games/genres, at least for navigating the OS. Ally has less and worse controls. There's a lot of games you'll need to hook up a mouse to play if you got no track pad. Valve set the standard

@@Toasty1308I have the legion go and I have to say if you don’t plan on detaching the controllers a lot, then I’d go with the ally x. The controllers on the Lego have become very slightly wobbly just from a few months of use. So if you really really want detachable controllers I say legion go. But if you just want a solid gaming handheld experience definitely get your hands on this

I am interested in the Ally X. I've had a Steam Deck LCD and OLED. I also have a Legion Go and agree that the screen on it is gorgeous and is a genuine competitor for the OLED Steam Deck. But fhe software experience has been pretty meh, as well as a few other minor annoyances with the device. If the Ally X has better battery life and more stable performance i think it can be a good 2nd device for me. I definitely will miss that big beautiful screen on the LeGo, but its not enough to cover all of its short comings for me. I do think that Asus should have gone with an OLED panel or at least made the screen slightly better and/or bigger though.

I have the Steam Deck LCD, Legion Go and was wondering in your previous video about quick resume on the Ally X: you mentioned that you just pushed the power button and it would turn off the screen and you were able to quickly go back into your game without much effort... did you have Hibernate as the setting when you tapped the power button? That's what I use on my Legion Go and while it's not as fast as the Steam Deck's sleep/resume function, it's pretty reliable.

@@Cub__ Legion Go: love the performance and massive 8.8" screen, that's it. Can't stand the weight, the ergos and the battery life. Steam Deck LCD (and I'm sure the OLED as well) is still the comfort king, awesome sleep and quick resume functionality but lacks in VRR, PC games compatibility and power.

I was very exited but they fked up the price for Europe. For my country, the Ally X currently costs about 80% more than the Z1E. So no, the biggest sale point "It's just a 100$ difference" doesn't apply at all to me. You know what no one talks about these handhelds is when you mod Video games Or use programs like wemod it's so hard to get a few to run right with nexus on the steam deck. My son is now 14 and the steam deck was fine for the past few years and we both bounded over trying to get games to run on the deck but I'm getting him a new handheld for Christmas and was looking into the legion go but I think this just won me over.

Great video. But here’s the thing once the steam deck has double the current battery and ups performance it will have much more battery life off charge. The fact the ally had to double the battery to get comparable battery to the 50w SD Oled. But alas I still think it’s great to be able to have access to all my games which is unfortunate for my steam deck Oled. Great device but limited.

Great video, always love listening to you. I don't have any handheld but I am definitely looking forward to getting this one. What do you think of thi Ally in comparison with the new Ayaneo devices? They seem pretty powerful too (although I do prefer the "console feeling" of the Ally) Also, I know the device will be out on July 22, but will the review(s) come out sooner than that, as far as you know?

Im a new subscriber and what got me into your content is how chill the experience is. Would love to see more games tested but for me the main draw for the gaming hand held scene are my gacha addiction haha~! I couldnt justify the obscenely priced gaming phones locally here at the southeast asia side so Im opting to buy a gaming handheld. I was thinking of getting the legion go but saw your vid on this. Can you like do some of the popular gacha games test for the legion go and rog ally x? I really wanted to buy the steam deck OLED but the anti cheat is preventing me from getting that specific handheld. anywho I hope your channel grows even more~!

I’m weird I just pair a Xbox controller to my Rog ally to avoid wearing out the joystick because of how loose it felt.

They are hall effect. They will not wear out. FFS.

It’s because of drivers and bios setups. They’re working on optimizing it. Similar to how a game has performance updates to remove problems

As a pc gamer , I'd rather wait for next gen handheld consoles. The performance is just too weak for my liking, especially for the price. I don't own a handheld yet but for me Switch v2/oled/2(upcoming) are the only ones worth investing for now, because of their exclusivity.

Honestly no need to get the Ally if you have the Go. These are the 2 I've been looking at. The Go is awesome because the handles disconnect and also turns into a mouse which is pretty cool. They both have their pro's and cons but I'd stick with what you got unless you just really want something newer.
