I'm not gonna go into technical things. But seeing you, as a same age mentor (at least at programming) driving a car that is what I want, was very inspiring. Thanks for racing with 911.
@sentdex
@sentdex 5 жыл бұрын
The 911 is actually just a track car, was racing a gt4 clubsport. I'm considering converting my 911 to a spec 997, but most of the spec 997 racers are PDK, and my 997 is a manual. Kind of a big difference. I love manual, but, it's really nice to focus more on driving and gear selection with a PDK than sacrificing with MT.

I have to say man, your driving was really smooth and the narration was awesome, it was really cool to see your thought process throughout the battles. Gave a ton of really interesting insight. For your first race weekend the driving was superb and you seemed to have kept a very level head on your shoulders during the battles. Keep it up and I would love to see more racing content.

Dude after your last upload i had to dig around to find out more about your racing and this was an absolutely amazing video. My wife yelled for me about ten minutes into it and I snapped to, realizing that i was *literally* sitting on the edge of the seat, elbows all sprawled out wide on the desk, face a foot from the screen with the doofiest mouth breathing grin i can think of mustering. The chaos of the whole thing combined with this pucker factor of waiting to hear crunching sheet metal and then your steady eddy description of your strategy...damn good TV lol. So impressed, man.

Congratulations! You’re absolutely right - any kind of physical racing is really mentally challenging. I’ve never driven in a race, only run in a few 5ks and a half - a lot of adrenaline and excitement. A lot of tactics - nothing like yours! Doing stuff for real where your life or health may be on the line, is way different than on a computer screen. Sucks when someone is blocking you!

I wasn't expecting to see this, but it was a lot of fun to watch! It looks to me like you did really great for your first race day (not that I'm any sort of racing expert). I wouldn't mind getting into this a little myself, but I just want to race, not pick up another hobby in maintaining a race vehicle. I may have to find somebody to partner with who can do most of the maintenance if I bankroll it.

@sentdex
@sentdex 5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, you know, I really don't notice it. I am sure there are some added G's, but maybe you don't notice because up the hill is also a brake zone (and pucker zone). Maybe if one was totally relaxed, you'd feel it...otherwise it's just cool because you can brake even faster there since it's basically free downforce.

Hi, rly cool video. But could you do one where you explain explicitly the rules of the racing ? like what are all kind of flags, how the passing works etc.. Rly interrested in this :)
@sentdex
@sentdex 5 жыл бұрын
*posts the 2019 PCA Clubracing rule book* I think that's probably out of the scope of my channel, but yellow flags are cautionary. If at one station, it means be careful and no passing here. If everywhere, it means everyone will be slowing down, safety car will come out, and basically the entire group gets back together. Green flag means go. I don't think any other flags came up here, but I can almost guarantee a video exists on youtube explaining racing flags for USA. Most USA racing groups use very similar rules.

That pass in T11 was borderline divebomb. When the other guy got you into T1, you should have done the over/under on him. Especially if he had to park it, you could have done that there. T1 at COTA has a ton of room for that kind of move into both T1 and T11. Great channel though. Came for the Python but you just tapped into one of my other passions.
@sentdex
@sentdex 5 жыл бұрын
Agree on divebomb, which is why I stopped trying to pass there with trains. Can see how it coulda gone poorly a bit later. Race 1 was really just getting tossed in the deep end. No way to prepare for it til you do it and make sketchy moves like that to learn from. Plenty of other things too like the mentioned over under. I watched the videos after and saw quite a few things I wished I had done differently, but still happy overall. Rookies have big Xs on their cars to hopefully alert you to our noobiness.
