Portland and Seattle are both very scenic with tons of natural beauty in and around. the snow-capped volcanoes (Hood and Rainier), lush green forest, clean air,you name it.

I moved to Portland from San Francisco (native) in 2020. I love it here but no way can you buy a house here either or in the suburbs. Same struggles as in San Francisco, but quality of life is much better. Generally people are nicer and the schools are way better with more opportunities. Absolutely love living in the middle of nature 🙃

Greetings, I just finished my degree, and I am currently thinking about moving here for several reasons. I do have questions that every state will face, how often and what type of natural disasters occur.

Portland, or rather the entire pacific northwest sits in an area that apparently is historically prone to massive megathrust earthquakes. Not gonna go too deep into it here but do some research on the "Cascadia Subduction Zone." PDX has been doing things to prepare for years in case it ever happens. Retrofitting buildings and other infrastructure, etc. Other than that, it's mostly just dreary weather for sometimes extended periods of time! Thanks for watching! Edit: also, since there's so much nature and forest in all directions, every summer the PNW gets a number of wildfires. It hasn't really directly affected the Portland metro in any severe way in a few years now, except for recently we got a couple hazy days, smoke that rolled in from some distant fires, that seemed to pass pretty quickly.

I'm from CT, and my job has an opening in Tualatin, OR. I've been wanting to move to the great north west. I've wanted to do this ever since I've seen movies that show the forest, and i'm a big into bigfoot.. lol, and the paranormal. Just, looks pretty out there.

Thanks, mostly balanced and informative video for me. I'm interested in semiconductors, but struggle in heat. So, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin out. So, it seems Portland/Hillsboro. I kind of figured what I see in news would not be whole store. But, still I have concerns - like why did REI and other stored move out of downtown?

I just moved here from Los Angeles and I’m so glad I moved here it is such a beautiful place to live it’s not bad like people make it out to seem. Southern California is way expensive and ugly compared to Oregon

I'm a 70 year old native Oregonian. Born and raised in Salem (a true sh!thole) and graduated from UofO in Eugene. Moved to Portland in 1984 to an inner eastside home near Belmont. Portland has had its ups and downs. But Portland is a great city. Haters can hate. That's ok. Salem residents hate Portland. I hate Salem. So there you go. I recently went to a funeral in Salem and was asked where I lived. Then I was confronted with a screed about how much this person hated Portland. The haters can stay out. If you need to fly away, go to Eugene and transfer to whatever flight you need elsewhere. Need medical care? Go to another city. Want to see a concert? Try a trip to Seattle. I'm sick and tired of the haters. Just stay away. We don't want haters here. Maybe Harney County is the place for the haters.

My husband & I are living in a duplex in Bend that my son owns. We are very senior and for years I have been the property manager. I am healthier than most people half my age and my doctor agrees. I take zero medications and am very energetic. My problem with Bend is the inadequate medical system here, the altitude and the arid climate. I grew up at sea level in NYC and then lived on the Ca. Coast - on the Ocean always - like Laguna Beach and Mill Valley. I want to move up to Portland because it is a progressive city and because I want to be where it is not a desert climate and is at sea level where I feel much more comfortable. Our combined income includes both of our social security and will also include about $1200 a month as we will get have half of the cost of the rental which will be around $2300 a month. I want my son, the landlord, to get the other half. I am a working artist and jeweler as well so I can make money as I have a huge body of work. Do you think we would have any difficulty renting a one or 2 bedroom in Portland in a decent neighborhood?

You should be able to find a good 2 bedroom for well under $2000 depending on the location.

I've been to Deming, NM as I lived in Las Cruces, NM for two years. It's actually quite nice - very beautiful area in the Chihuahuan desert. And I visited Big Bend National Park many years ago and so was near Fort Stockton. Alpine, TX and Fort Davis, TX are very nice areas - again in the Chihuahuan desert. Some Mountain ranges around there. McDonald Observatory in that area on a mountain top. All these areas in West Texas and Southern New Mexico have some of most friendly people. My point, definitely not shitholes. I don't understand your attack on these areas!!

Moved here in 2018, through its ups and downs, I still love it. I love Oregon. We’re making progress downtown, but my only wish is for the amount of taxes we pay, it is utilized more effectively and efficiently, get the graffiti and garbage cleaned up please.
