That’s a good point. If somehow they were able to put together six straight games where they don’t run into an issue with shooting, they have a very very real chance at winning it all. I’m curious to see how the team looks when they eventually run into a night like that. If they can overcome and win despite it, I think they will show us just how much of a contender they are.
@coachBryceGАй бұрын
Absolutely. But they play good defense and that's always gonna keep you in ball games regardless of what you do on offense
@Wetrockstah2116Ай бұрын
Andrew carr is actually their most skilled post presence. He isn't Donovan Klingon or Zach edey, but he is very good in the post for sure. Brandon Garrison is still getting better in the post, he is just a sophomore and he is definitely improving. Amari Williams skillset is his ability in the open floor as a big to slash to the rim and make plays. And he is an elite defender. For them to win a championship their gonna have to keep moving the ball, and making the extra pass, and fine Tune that style hy march. Their good enough defensively to win a chip, when they actually clamp down. But Otegah oweh, Lamont Butler, will both have to play at a high level and Jaxson Robinson will as well..their gonna have to stay healthy, and Kobe brea is gonna have to get more shots up too.

I think eventually UK will run into a team that can actually guard every guy on the court. If you wanna argue like everyone does that they don't have a star player. Well that's kind of a relative statement cause oweh seems like he's an NBA talent and makes big plays. Isn't that what makes a player a star. They make big plays?
@derekmiles9069Ай бұрын
Kind of like when they played Duke? Dumbass
@derekmiles9069Ай бұрын
When you have an offense that allows open shots and can create shots, you don’t really need a guy. That comment is about as dumb as you are.
@Ryan_RantsАй бұрын
Agree with this take. I love Amari Williams as a defensive big. He is mobile, can come out on the floor, defend the pain, and rebound. I also love him as a passer and break starter on the offense. He is great in the zoom action and pick and roll, great from the high post and top of the key in hitting open guys, whether it is back door or on the perimeter. He is a skilled passer, he knows where to put the ball and what kind of pass to make, like a well placed bounce pass leading a man. The way he can take off down the floor with the ball after a defensive rebound is amazing too. Not many bigs can do it with the speed and skill he has, and you have to give Coach Pope credit for having that confidence in him and allowing him to lead the break, as it REALLY opens up your transition game with a big is allowed to just push it up the floor himself off a rebound. However, with all that high praise, I am surprised that someone who has played so much basketball at this level, has such little low post offensive game and absolutely no touch. He can handle and pass the ball so well for a big, heck, for anyone, but when it comes to shooting he has brick hands. The one shot he made against Duke was just weird, it looked like he didn't even mean to shoot it, a running 14 footer that just died on the rim and fell in. He has no jumper, watching his free throw his form is just, ugly, which is weird for a lefty because their shots usually look so nice. Which brings me to my next point, he is all left. He does have one post move where he can make some hard power dribbles right, switch left, drop step and do that little half hook over his right shoulder. It is a solid move when one on one against a smaller defender, but at the season goes on and certainly in the tournament teams will key on that. Defenders will cheat up a little and not let him go back to his left, and guys may cheat down if he tries it and steal the ball (or tie it up) similar to what UK did against Cooper Flagg late in that game against Duke. Basically, outside of being a distributor, Amari's offense is limited to transition or the occasional blow by when he is on the perimeter. You would think with all his time in college he would have a more polished low post game, but it just isn't a thing. I thing BG has that potential going forward. He has a tremendous ceiling. He has great skill, athleticism, runs the floor with purpose, has a good looking shot. I think he could potentially be that low post threat offensively. He needs better footwork and to get a little stronger, but the touch and athleticism is there. In reality, you don't need a whole bag of low post moves. Just a go to and a backup, maybe a 3rd counter to the back up. The way this offense works, it actually simplifies being a post player, because their is great spacing and movement, when you have 4 guys who can shoot the 3, and as you said not just shoot but like...dot your eyes from deep, it is hard to send the double or you risk leaving a shooter open and a post player who can and will make that pass. Not to mention the movement allows for mismatches to occur, so a great post player could have a field day with one on one matchups. I think BG could be this guy, but he isn't their yet. My prediction is he will have a breakout year next year, but certainly will be a force by the time he is a senior and we will see him in an NBA jersey at some point.

Last year's UK team wasn't as bad as everyone says. Their actual problem was they couldn't rebound defensively and it made their defense look worse than it was. They shut Auburn down they down Alabama . Great offensive teams
@isaacpruitt9220Ай бұрын
Bama still scored 95. It wasn't as much shutting them down as much as we just scored more than they did. The auburn game, ill give you. The defense had a problem with overplaying and then not providing help or providing too much help, which left people open. They had games where they showed they could, then they would revert and get torched.
@BleedsblueАй бұрын
@isaacpruitt9220 I seen them them constantly giving up crucial offensive rebounds last year. This year's team don't seem to have that problem. And Alabama scored towards the end of that game once it was already over. It wasn't even as close as the score indicated. I go to every home game and remember that game well. It was one of UK s best defensive games of the year. Alabama scored 15 points once it was well out of reach and UK was coasting. The score and fg% don't really tell the story of the game. I always look at the physicality of games. Which is what won UK the Duke game. Duke lost their legs 10 minutes into the game. UK had too many unforced turnovers which Duke scored on and got a lead. They should've lost by 10
@Wetrockstah2116Ай бұрын
Yeah well a huge reason why UK beat auburn and Tennessee last year was ugonna oyenso, he wasn't allowing anybody to score in the paint in some games last year. Cal had an elite roster last year and blew it, you give Pope that same roster with Rob Dillingham and reed Shepard? They make a final four or win a championship. Cals issues have always been IMO he doesn't let the team play freely, he lets his guards sometimes but for the most part he coaches the team tight and they play tight. That team wasn't a bad team at all, they finished second in the SEC last year.
@BleedsblueАй бұрын
@Wetrockstah2116 Cals problem is he is too predictable and has no versatility on defense. They play man to man 95% of the time. No trap no press no matchup zone. And for some reason if he doesn't have a team that can switch at every position the can't guard screen actions. I've never had a problem with cals rosters. And I don't think any fan does really. It was specifically what cal did on offense and defense. Which last year's offense credit goes to John Welch and Tyler ulis. That wasn't cals offense at all. They did dribble drive motion at times . But all the sets and plays were John Welch. Floppy action was put in by Welch. Which he still uses at Arkansas I noticed
@BleedsblueАй бұрын
@Wetrockstah2116 Brandon Garrison and Amari Williams are both better the onyennso. And it looks to me like Garrison is starting to come out of his shell and begin to reach capability.. Kentucky has played one team of merit….Duke. In that game we saw Duke dominate them in the first half. Kudos to Kentucky for shooting well enough to keep them in the game in second half but anyone that watched that game knows that Duke was awful in the second half. Duke shot horrendously in the second half and it wasn’t because of Kentucky’s defense. It was wide open and great looks. They were just awful. Duke also battled two of their studs out for a lot of the second half including their Big that was dominating Kentucky in the first half. With all of this Duke let Kentucky back in the game and Dukes Freshman let them down late. I doubt Flagg will play that awful at the end of a game unchallenged like this here on out. Kentucky has better experience here but they’re role players in a decent system. But their ceiling isn’t much higher. Dukes ceiling is astronomical! They play that game again even now….Duke blows Kentucky out 9/10 times. The first half would be the norm….not the second. End of the year it will be Dukes named about tourney runs. Not Kentucky. We will see how Kentucky does against Gonzaga and against the big dogs of the SEC. But I doubt Kentuckys role players will get bailed out against these teams like Duke did for them in the second half.
@jasonomer346Ай бұрын
I disagree 100%. Sure it would be nice to have a better post presence, but it is not needed for this team. If this team is not making threes, then they have numerous guys who can score twos. They spread the floor out and drive you. Just look at Oweh and Butler. We haven’t seen it so much from Robinson yet either because we haven’t had to, however, he can drive and get buckets too. Carr is also a great interior scorer.

But, admittedly so, a championship in Coach's inaguaral debut season in the the bluegrass would be true gravy. The icing. More added flavor. But, to me, we in BBN, we have already won the 2nd battle. Turning the page was the 1st one:check. The 2nd: getting a high caliber coach: double check!! Now, as far as hanging number nine? If and when we're so highly blessed once again...that'll have to down as a cinderalla of all tv movies.Lol. Yes yes. Good times are a-roll'n in BBN LAND once again. @Syrin23Ай бұрын
You don't need elite post scoring to win a title. We've seen MANY teams that prove this point. You CANNOT win without outside shooting. Kentucky has six guys averaging double digits meaning we don't need interior scoring, and there will not be a game where our NINE shooters are all off. That will not happen. What Kentucky has is ELITE interior defense which means they are going to be FF or better. Other teams are screwed. I would argue their weakness is Amari and Lamont are average FT shooters and have the ball in their hands a LOT. In a close game, that could be the difference.
