When my siblings and I would spend a month with grandma and grandpa on the farm… After supper and before bed my grandparents would allow us to watch this all cuddled around the living room carpet with a bowl of corn flakes or sugar smacks cereal before bed watching this gem…. The first woman was truly amazing for the time period. To be 65yo in 1965 and be a female flight instructor who can also pilot helicopters AND she has a degree in metallurgy. Yeah, me, too. I spent the entire summer of 1961 crushing on Hayley because ads for "The Parent Trap" ran all summer long. She seemed like a sweet girl with a fun, mischievous streak. I begged my mother to take me to see "Parent Trap" but she said she would when it came to the neighborhood theater. Either she lied or it never came to the neighborhood theater because I didn't see it until it was shown on television a few years later.

What an interesting off-screen glimpse of Hayley at age 19! This is a post-production appearance prior to the 1966 release of "The Trouble With Angels" in which her teen-like innocence proved difficult to hide (but aided in my pre-pubescent school-boy crush). I beleive she was one of Walt Disney's favorites if memory serves. I suppose we're seeing Hayley at the very cusp of her rise to stardom here. Great post!

I'd say we're seeing her at the pinnacle of her fame. "The Trouble With Angels" was her last big hit. She didn't do nearly as well as an adult, after her string of hits as a child and teen actor. She kept working, doing minor movies in the 70s, then especially on TV in the 80s, in the usual guest appearances on shows like The Love Boat -- and a wonderful short miniseries that played on PBS in the US, "The Flame Trees of Thika." But her career definitely peaked in the early- to mid-1960s.

It costs nothing but a pair of grown-up pants, which one then chooses to wear (getting some big boy or big girl pants and acting like a grownup), and taking some personal responsibility, instead of incessant whining and finger pointing. Life is much nicer since I tossed my TV and radio. Wasn’t anything worth feeding my mind from either of them. Been on a strict mental diet ever since, only very specific research and study, no social media (unless you count these comments on YT), and the occasional time capsule visit such as a show like this. M Hail, maybe if you wean yourself away you can reach it. Do something else a few minutes a day, just watch the sun rise in silence, or some birds singing or playing; then learn to cook or build something and do that instead of watching a TV show, and so on. It gets contagious, you end up just preferring your new-found pastimes and you don’t even miss the drama of TV, movies, mainstream media and social media at all. It’s like the world is screaming at you non-stop and it’s so peaceful to just walk away and refuse to let them scream at you anymore. They own your mind if you hand it over every day. And what you think on just before bed is what your mind grows on as you sleep, same for what you think on in the morning. So if you take charge of that and you decide what your mind will be doing for the day, you’ll have more peace of mind. People are programmed in school to let others dictate their day for them. Very bad. Kids know it’s bad, that’s why they correctly protest the indoctrination of school. They know caging their mind is a bad thing. They’re absolutely right. It is. So one thing to do instead could be to go down everything that went right for the day, every positive thing, and appreciate it, even if it’s just that you had a warm bed to sleep in, a roof over your head, no one broke into your place or even tried to, you have a fridge for food, maybe had something to eat, you have a shower to get clean, and someone held a door open for you today and that’s all that did go right. Some people may not have all that, but they might have some of it. Listing these things, especially aloud, or written, makes things begin to shift, and more and more things go right for you. I don’t watch news or listen to it. If it’s out of my hands, I don’t worry about it. I do take action in deeper ways, some of which can be said and some not, and if there is something I can sign, I’ll know about it because someone will inevitably tell me, but that’s really rare that it’s really actionable. Voting, except at the local level, definitely at get national level, is just a false sense of control, since the system has been heavily rigged for at least 100 years. People are only voting for which cousin will carry out the next set of phases of their plans, and whether they’ll take one road or another to get to the same place. That’s a waste of my time. I surely wouldn’t give them any of my money, either. That would just weaken me. I give my money to where it has 100% impact. Help a neighbor, help a stranger, help people directly. No taxes, no overhead. Politicians don’t need my money, they all have lobbyists and party politics to fund them. The poor, and the people trying to stay off the streets, the heartbroken, the lost, the abandoned, they need our time, our attention, our company, our love, our friendship, and lunch or dinner, or maybe some other stuff from the store. Much better than TV. Go talk to some strangers at the park when there’s plenty of people around, and let them vent. You don’t have to do anything dangerous, don’t have to give them anything, not money or your phone number, just your time in the moment and a listening ear. Maybe keep a journal of stranger moments. They can be very meaningful moments. I always learn something from a stranger. Community and friendship is what the Western world is missing, we used to have it, and everyone is hurting from this loss. We can’t let it slip away. It’s the best way to fight the system. They’ll do anything to divide and conquer. Make friends with everyone the media says is your enemy. Find those common threads, because they are there. We all have faults and no one is perfect. No one is right 100% if the time. Don’t argue the differences, strengthen the similarities. Without the news, I have no enemies. I refuse to let governmental decisions dictate who my friends are. I don’t care one bit what country someone is from, I do care if someone has good character or not. That’s all that matters. There are some good sites that loan money in small amounts (usually under $3,000 USD, often more like $500-$1,500 to people the world over, and you just pitch in on that loan, and all your money goes to fund the loan to people in countries where it’s very hard for poor people to get one at all, or they don’t have the collateral, so we collectively are the collateral. One can pitch in in $25 increments on any loan, and when there’s enough people that have pitched in, the person gets the loan they need. If they do happen to default, we collectively lose whatever portion wasn’t paid back, but they’re almost always paid back, sometimes early, then the money can be reloaned again to someone else. Your $25 can be reused over and over. One can donate to help the volunteers just get to the people and such, but it isn’t required (but I do). The only time anyone has defaulted has usually been just on the last few payments of a 2-year loan, so I’ve only lost a few dollars tops with any of them, and I would have given it to them gladly anyway. And it’s so rare, and we have to remember that these can be loans in countries with non-stop violence and war, so even walking to take their little monthly payment to the bank or to a volunteer or for the volunteer to come to them just for them to pay it can be a life-threatening experience, and I’d really rather they just keep it and not risk their life to give me back a dollar...or even $25. No one has ever failed to pay most of it, almost all have paid it all back, and many have succeeded with their small business enough to expand and even take out and repay another loan, so they can care for their famiiies, or add a toilet to their home, or a roof, send their kids to school, things like that. That’s way more fun to watch people do well, and I learn more about their countries from how things are going with real people and their real lives. For anyone wondering, Kiva.org is the one I’ve used for years. So far, it’s been great to see people do better than I do at things. They never cease to amaze me at what they accomplish with so little. They’ll teach you how to appreciate every tiny thing you have, just by how they live. You’ll feel like a millionaire, or a billionaire, for sure. And you’ll technically be an international financier, (specializing in micro loans). Has a nice ring to it:) I’m so allergic to TV, I won’t even sit in a waiting room with one, I always demand a quiet place to sit. Then I can read or just sit and be. Just some ideas. Once you start to drop that media world here and there, you start to wonder why you ever liked it in the first place. And your friends and life will change... for the better.

I actually just watched it again, a few months ago! How I loved that movie! I have to say though that I agree with you that I also loved The Parent Trap( hated the remake!) , it is a very close second. They are two great movies with Hayley Mills! I too, loved them both but my personal favorite Hayley Mills movie 🎥 will forever be “POLLYANNA”, just like you “HISTORIAN212!” I definitely agree with everything you said!

Actually her first big hit was ‘Tiger Bay’ made in 1958 - released in 1959 in England. A black & white all time classic Film. Disney’s wife happened to see it on a trip to the UK & told him she would make the ideal Pollyanna - which is how she got the part, over all the American competition. It is now on You Tube & also stars Horst Buccholtz, Wonderful film - brilliant acting - far superior to the Disney stuff in my view.

Pollyanna was my very favorite film that she made, when I saw it as a young child. I adored her after I saw her appearing in this movie! She received a Juvenile Oscar for her performance 🎭 but her parents did not allow her to come to America to receive it, I had read, for they did not want her to “get a big head”, but wanted to keep her unaffected by her fame. Walt Disney arranged to have Annette Funicello pick up the Oscar for Hayley Mills( I adored Annette as a teenager & her Beach Party movies!) but the award was presented to Annette in Hayley’s place, by none other than a gigantic “child ⭐️ star”, in her own right, “SHIRLEY TEMPLE!” Love to see that & will have to look through the amazing Utube videos, that miraculously seems to have anything you might be looking for! Utube has everything( love Utube!!!) & I also love. this particular blog/site/video!♥️

I had the privilege of interviewing Joanna Barnes for the movie magazine FILMS OF THE GOLDEN AGE's Summer 2018 issue. She confided that she was being considered as a possible replacement after Dorothy's death. Because of that, she didn't want to appear too clever in solving who the mystery guest was. Having worked with Hayley Mills playing her nemesis in "The Parent Trap," she said she recognized Hayley's poorly disguised voice very early but purposely didn't guess Hayley fearing she might hurt her own chances to be a regular. Needless to say, nobody ever did replace Dorothy. Joanna, however, did appear as a semi regular in the syndicated version.

I bet my father would have fainted too, and grandfather. My grandfather was a Bugle Boy under General Pershing, and my father was in the Pacific Theatre in WW Two. And my great-grandfather was a gunner in HMS Royal Artillery under Queen Victoria. And Haley Mills would have made them all weak in the knees. She was really a classy, quite elegant and sweet. I sincerely hope she has had a blessed life.

I always so adored Hayley Mills, as a child, right through my preteen & teenage yrs. My admiration for her has never waned but only grown deeper, through the yrs! When I was nine or ten yrs old, seeing her for that very first time, in my favorite Hayley Mills movie Pollyanna, she instantly became my childhood “idol” & I so wanted to be her! How I loved that movie & still do, actually! Her parents did such an amazing job raising Hayley, keeping her so down to earth, grounded & not unaffected by her fame. Her dad, John Mills was a gigantic star in his own right (RYAN’S DAUGHTER IS A CLASSIC MOVIE THAT HE APPEARED IN & I THINK HE RECEIVED AN OSCAR FOR HIS AMAZING PERFORMANCE IN THIS 🎥 MOVIE!). Hayley’s sister Juliet Mills is a well respected & popular actress too. Her mother Mary Hayley Mills was a well know author ( movie made of one of her books) that Hayley appeared in! I adored Hayley Mills( still do)! How I loved the movie Pollyanna that she appeared in & believe she won an OSCAR for it that Annette Funicello accepted for her, from Shirley Temple, I read! Her parents did not want her fame to go to her head so did not allow her to come from England, I read so Disney Studios had Annette Funicello receive it for her(how I would love to see a clipping of that special moment!!!
