What a class act Jerry Lewis was and should be remembered as one of the greatest Entertainers of all time !!!!!

Scott Miller Disagree. He made only one truly great comedy movie as far as I'm concerned (The Nutty Professor). Other than that, after the hours of interviews I've watched (with growing disbelief!!), I'm disappointed to report that he was an obnoxious, egotistical and cold man. All I see now is an arrogant, vain man LOVING the attention.

@@davidsanderson5918 In the early 1970s I was in Vegas for a big trade show and ran into Jerry Lewis - literally. I was (almost) running down a corridor at the Convention Center so as not to be late for a company function. I turned a corner and ran smack into Jerry Lewis coming the other way knocking him flat on his back. Long story short, Mr Lewis could not have been more forgiving. He graciously accepted my profuse apologies. He was after all a huge star and many show biz types would not have been so nice about it. I will never forget the kindness he showed me..

@@christinecatt5391 He was and aside from his personal life that is no one's business, Jerry was brilliant and talented and a real humanitarian especially with his contributions with Muscular Dystrophy! His Telethons for over 40 years should be enough for anyone to earn his respect!!!!!

@@davidsanderson5918 Selfish? Did you really know him or do you read the crap the gossip magazines write about him just because he was Jewish? Did you know that man literally GAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO ANYONE EVEN PEOPLE HE DON'T KNOW? That as soon as he knew that some friend of his was in financial difficulty he gave him money and helped him in other ways? You've broken into hating a person just because you believe in shit and because he was a Jew! It had its flaws like everyone else! DO YOU THINK YOU ARE PERFECT AND DESERVE HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE? I'M NOT AND I AM AWARE OF IT! You Americans are hypocrites as hell, you all believe yourselves to be saints and then you go around shooting schools because without weapons you don't feel like men, you hypocrites!

This would have aired right around the time I finished fourth grade. Now I'm on Medicare, ready to begin Social Security soon and I'm even older than Bennett Cerf was at the time of this episode. And the time keeps going by faster and faster.

Boomerangs in the past were used as weapons for hunting, so I would consider that useful. But maybe none of them new that or maybe he made them to be used only for amusement.

+Jennifer Murdock This was a period where Americans in their post-WWII affluence (compared to the Great Depression, very affluent), were going from craze to craze in spending their disposable income. We had hula hoops, and yo-yos, and for a while boomerangs for recreation were the craze. Frisbees would come later.

I know it sounds stupid, but these episodes smell like my grandparents house. The musty smell of a gown that has been packed away and revived for a special occasion. The sweet smell of Adorn wafting in the air. A freshly lit cigarette in a ashtray on the coffee table. The smell of Kiwi wax being applied to my grandfather's dress shoes and a simple wiff of those large pink mints in the candy dish. Ahh the memories.

As this is written, the current issue of Smithsonian magazine has a story about a man who purchased the boat John Steinbeck used for his trip that formed the basis for his book The Log.... about his trip to the Sea of Cortez and the discussions and early environmental work that he did. Afterward the boat was used as a fishing boat in Alaska, where more than 1 billion fish died on the top of that single boat. As in a different context, a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon you are talking about quite a few fish. We think of fishing as a hobby and a business but we also think of our fish and oceans as infinite resources and they are not. There has been so much degradation of our oceans and marine life. To keep fishing going, we need to manage resources wisely. Certain John Daly understood that through his work for the Isaac Walton Society. There were not many people talking about preserving habitat for fish and making water clean and safe in 1962. Despite all that has changed since these shows aired, some things remain the same, and the need for environmental stewardship while maintaining a vibrant economy is one of them.
