SuperWinterborn I don't deal in absolutes but I have to break that rule for Mr. John Daly. He was easily the most gifted interviewer/emcee/reporter that I've ever seen back to the early '60s. A man who was eminently well educated, always at ease and who knew how not to be manipulated by others. He would have been wasted on 60 Minutes in its' objective prime years. He didn't get that from tiny little Tilton school. Also, when on camera he never felt the need to belittle others. Extremely well educated and honed by experience in the field he always kept on learning. He was and remains the model for all speakers and reporters. Just a gifted natural without the need to show it off. Instead today we have screaming, poorly educated "news readers" who feel the need to interject their personal agenda. What a pleasure he was to watch at work.

These were 13 women that were selected for the same astronaut testing as the male Mercury astronauts. regrettably the program was canceled before they had a chance to go into space. Probably after her appearance here, in the late 1950's worked as a federal pilot examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration, performing pilot evaluations and issuing certificates. So telling people they should skip to the mystery guest segment is less than ideal in that it deprives them of any real chance to find out if they like the show itself. Of course, if the show isn't for you, so be it. But it did grate on me a bit to see not just a timecode to skip to the mystery guest segment (people leave comments like that all the time), but your suggestion that it would be a waste of time NOT to skip the rest of the show. In other episodes the audience go wild with noise but maybe there were more women than men this time - Johnny Mathis got a noisy welcome but Miss D did not. We rarely see the audience, so we can only judge by ear.

If the work of Mr. Stewart and Mr. Marlow entails holding cue cards for Perry Como, then why does Mr. Daly describe them as "self-employed"? Did these guys start out from a little shop with an advertising sign that read, 'Will Hold Up Cue Cards for Television Personalities, especially Perry Como!'?

A person who free-lances offers a viable, cohesive service. What is the service that the two gentlemen here provide? "Cue-Card Holder Uppers"? Wow! Does one need work experience or a college degree to get that going?

Jeffrey Slott They have to know the protocol of live TV, how to keep up the timing smoothly, and be personable. Also, how not to get underfoot while everyone is working around them.

Probably contract, not directly employed.

Why do you think weren't Arlene and Martin sometimes sat next to each other? I like when they would introduce and said goodbye at the end to one another. Their 'exchanges' were sometimes hilarious ;-)

Katarzyna Kopeć actually they were more often than not i've seen them on the same panel about a dozen times & this is only the 2nd time they're apart--there's 17 yrs of shows eventually you will see them together more often

Katarzyna Kopeć I've been watching these in order recently and I've noticed that for some time they have been alternating Arlene and Dorothy in spots 1&3. Since Martin is in Bennett's spot while he's away, the fortnightly separation of Arlene and her hubby makes sense.
