Thanks so much for a wonderful post. I’m glad they lightened up in time to come and didn’t subject the guest to such close and potentially embarrassing scrutiny.

wow the original one. thanks for posting this. amazing the former governor of new jersey would be on a game show debut. harold g hoffman was a colorful character, i would recommend reading his wiki bio, he would die 4 years after this show of heart attack, just months after being exposed for embezzling $300,000 from new jersey's unemployment bureau, and while director of that agency. unlike politicians today, hoffman would admit to his crime.

The start of a 17 year run. Hope they know people are still watching over 70 years later.

How lucky for Miss Finch the hat check girl for being the first ever on this greatest program!

"Brooklyn! This usually produces applause." I have seen this several times and that line always seemed kind of funny to me. Considering this was the premier show, and he was the first one from Brooklyn on the show, I'm not sure how anything about this show is "usual" at this point, lol

I had to google the celebrity to know who in the heck he was! But I admit I'm not a sports fan.

Sans Dorothy, this is a most unpalatable panel. Who chose these individuals, and why ?

tomitstube Get you facts straight...you have the wrong Hoffman...the Hoffman on "whats my line" was a very famous shrink in New York City and died in 1967 not in 1954. One thing he was famous for was introducing dogs into therapy for depression. Gloria Swanson and one of the Chase Bank Heiress' were some of his patients. He did not embezzle $300,000 either. He died of alcoholism or alzheimers, and was broke, in 1967.

malibujd44 there were TWO Hoffmans on the panel: Dr. Hoffman and former Governor Hoffman. tomitstube's facts ARE on the nose.
