Thanks for the info Matt. Looking forward to to test dark mode which is starting to roll out in preview.

Really wish you could do something like configurations, but fully dynamic (as in configure the parameters of an inserted component only for the local "assembly")
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign3 күн бұрын
But still keep its parent(external) linked and in a different config? You can config an inserted external component, but if you are looking to just change parameters you would need to do a break link on it. I am not sure of any CAD program that would behave that way. Do you have a use case where you need this?

- Thx, Matt. - Alas, my takeaway is: "'X' has been added, but it's lacking, and or not fully developed, so its usefulness is limited." :( - Oh well.

I still have zero idea what the polygon constraint does. Great job covering what it doesn't do however.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 күн бұрын
Yeah. I actually did find a use for it last week. If you make a polygon with the polygon tool and copy/paste it, it no longer has the polygon constraint. so in that case you can add it and keep the shape. other than that...... And really if you copy a sketch and paste it, the constraints should also go.

In terms of surface modeling. (Car related parts/bodies) Would you say its worth spending time on it in fusion360 or skip it and go to plasticity? Even with being able to achieve quite a lot in f360 it looks like Plasticity is a much better option. I've been messing with it in f360 and it just seems like it's going to a be a struggle to achieve the finer details.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign7 күн бұрын
That is a bit subjective but i would lean toward Fusion personally for a few reasons. Fusion can handle freeform modeling and surface modeling off of scanned mesh bodies. Plasticity can do a bit with a mesh but not nearly as much. Fusion is made for production while Plasticity is made more for concept/vfx/game asset type modeling Fusion is parametric so say you wanted to design a lower control arm for your car, its much easier to be precise and allow for flexibility of the design by editing dimensions. I do think the surfacing in plasticity does edge out fusion in quality and flexibility, but again outside of the concept phase I think Fusion is still a better bet.

@00:17 AutoConstraint became available to me after the latest Update 🤔 Gonna be interesting for those Sketches where you just can't figure out how to fully constrain it. IMHO my biggest want for Insert Fastener would be the possibility of curating your own Library either via editing the existing Selection or by simply adding your own Models to it. I - apparently!? - like to work outside what Fusion considers normal Dimensions when it comes to the available Fastener Selection like say M3 Socket Head Cap Screws but ones up to 50mm long or Bolts in the Sub M2 range down to M1 for Scale Modelling which is really annoying for all those not being available from the Insert Fastener Tool ( and to some degree also not from McMasterCarr 💢 )
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign6 күн бұрын
You can edit the fasteners saved into the fastener project folder but it would be really nice if you could include it or add a favorites which you have downloaded from a vendor. I have worked with companies that maintain their own part numbers for hardware as it doesn't matter who the source company is, and I get that. I think the majority of users for Insert Fastener right now are those of us that would order hardware based on a project and a complete drawing package with PNs is lower on the list.

Can you talk please about the performance issue on fusion these days it's sooo annoying. Thanks
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign3 күн бұрын
Yeah, i need to do some benchmarking on a few different systems to figure out whats going on. What system are you running? I have a few win10 machines and a win11 machine I will be testing.

Hi, are those changes only for the subscription version?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign8 күн бұрын
Yes and no. Configurations and the insert fastener library is for commercial or edu users. Mesh align and the polygon constraint should be there for everyone.

AI auto constrain is also only for paid subscribers.

Hi Matt, do you know if fusion will still work after Win10 support ends in october this year? I will not switch to Win11, i'll rather go with linux in the future but keep Win10 as dual boot for fusion. Unfortuantely i don't get along with the plasticity workflow so i'll need fusion on Win10.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign7 күн бұрын
I wish i knew for sure Gery. The info I have seen states that Autodesk won't support win10 for fusion after Oct when Microsoft drops support. I know MS has an option to continue to pay for security updates for 3 years but because Fusion updates and you can't really lock in a version for more than a few weeks I would have to guess Win11 will be required. When i got a new laptop recently I had committed to putting win10 on it since i kept all my other systems on win10. I gave win11 a try and have kept it so far because sadly I don't have a choice but to move with some of the programs I support for my clients. I don't love it and i had to turn off probably 200+ settings but i have it looking and feeling a lot like win10. For right now all of the settings and things that worry me about win11 can be turned off, but i wouldn't be shocked once win10 goes away if that wasn't the case anymore.

I wish they would give us the ability to add text to configurations.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign8 күн бұрын
In the config table there is a Properties tab for the component name, part number and description. You can have that text based on each config. But actually doing a config of something like an embossed part number sadly no.

I'm not really a big fan or insert fastener or insert from McMaster because it generates completely independent components I prefer importing fasteners into fusion and then inserting the component
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign3 күн бұрын
100% valid. I like them being inside an assembly if its for a single client and i am working with no xRefs. If its a case where hardware is reused or its for a bigger project with external references that likely pushes me to save them externally and insert them.

I just got it so will be playing with it and doing a video soon.
@alexeyrybakov9498 күн бұрын
Yeah, polygon constrain is disappointing. Could be useful only if you import dxf from other CAD and need to recreate constrain on already accurate but unconstrained drawing. Autoconstrain works nice, will be useful for same purpose.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign8 күн бұрын
So the magic button was there for you? :) The examples I have seen for Autoconstrain don't seem to be any faster than doing it manually as intended honestly. When I am modeling I tend to dimension on the fly so rarely do i have a big mess to deal with.
@alexeyrybakov9498 күн бұрын
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign yes, arrived in my interface. I'm doing the same with my own sketches, but sometime have to work with dxf from customers.

What they need, is a way to escape the hour glass and end whatever it's doing. The user is not in control! I have to kill the process to make Fusion stop.

There are some things you can stop with ESC but not everything. It seems to be more in the manufacture/toolpath calculation side of things for now.
