Not being able to offset an offset is something that use to frustrate me like crazy so very happy for this change. Thanks for all your videos! I always learn something.

Man, those offset changes are so welcomed! Also very happy about importing and exporting parameters. Thanks for another great video!

Glad you like them! Yeah the parameters import/export is finally a thing without the need for some external add-in!

Thank you very much for the very comprehensive review of the updates and fusion! You have really cleared up a lot of issues for me particularly in the configuration management tool. The inability to do multiple offsets and a sketch has always been one of my frustrations, glad to see it's finally been addressed. Please continue sharing your information and insights. Great job!

My jaw literally dropped open when you got to being able to import/export parameters. I’ve wanted this since I started using Fusion, and it’s a bit puzzling why it took so long to add it.

It took a long time to even get an If statement :)

defintily need a ' project as construction lines options.. as well as make construction when doing offsets or flip original to offset

great to see the updates to offset! I just wish it could do a "locus" for example an offset on a line creates a slot instead of just a parallel line
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
That would be cool!

Correct... I also remember that bavel could be used at an internal edge. I guess they ran into issues with the crown option... It's a bummer though.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
Thanks for confirming my sanity! As soon as the adjacent faces aren't planar you can use the Bevel tool, which i guess is the main time you would need it, but just seemed odd.

I wish they'd add American paper sizes to drawings. A4 paper doesn't grow on trees on this side of the pond.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
if you use the ASME standard and select the A sheet size its 8.5 x 11. If you use the ISO standard you will need to use the Custom sheet size if you need it to be 8.5x11 though as yes A4 isn't actually what we have here.

Parameters should be objects in the project root and components and edited from the Browser. Components and child-components inherit parameters from root / parent component.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
Well they are "global" in a design. I think if they were in the project itself that would cause a lot of conflicts. Solidworks puts the "equations" in a folder in the feature tree but nearly all other CAD programs I know of you have to navigate to a menu somewhere to access them.

Really wish you could directly use local parameters to parametrize external components
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
That gets very tricky to manage in Inventor. I think the best you could do is use the Edit in Place functionality and add Assembly Contexts. it would take a bit of work and is 100% a workaround, but if you need that functionality that might be a way.

Some good changes, but I have a massive problem with the update: I can't export any body to a mesh, it says "Autodesk Translation Service failed to translate the current document to 3mf file" - and before you ask: stl-file also doesn't work. When I try to save the mesh directly to my slicer, fusion opens the slicer but no file appears.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
wow thats strange. I just tried it. They did update the dialog but i am able to both export and push to my 3d print utility. Im using the older version of Creality Print (4.8 i think) and it works fine. I tried sending a 3mf to Cura 5.7.2 and that worked as well but the object was way off the build plate and needed to be centered. I was NOT able to use the export option on a 3mf though but STL did work..... 3mf does need cloud translation but stl and obj should no longer need that. I will say that its annoying this new dialog doesn't default to remember my settings and i have select to send it to a printer each time. the 3d print tool on the Utilies tab seems to remember my settings but still annoying.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
i checked this again this morning at it appears to be working fine now. I can export a 3mf from the file export menu and from the Save As mesh right click option.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign It looks like as if it is a problem with permissions in MacOs: when I started Fusion with the admin account, I was able to export 3MF and STL. But there is still one issue: when I export directly to the slicer, Fusion opens the slicer and the model appears in the slicer. But if the slicer is already opened, nothing happens. 🤷🏼 And by the way: thanks a lot for your work and efforts sharing your knowledge with us! Great Channel!

@@timg.998 i have weird slicer issues with them if i have it open and try to push a file to it from Fusion as well. I am using the older creality 4.x slicer. Thanks for the follow up and kind words!

Hi hi, Offset command. Draw an object second make it a construction line(s). Select offset, select object, select two sides, define the distance. Both offset lines will be normal lines
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
Nice tip Eric. It is certainly possible to do but does require an extra step. Other programs like Solidworks have a checkbox to default the selected curves to construction. Converting to construction manually with X isn't too bad, but they were so close :)

I wish they improved Text handling, it's awful right now. The Move command doesn't work with text and you can't pattern text. Extruding text is a crap shoot that may or may not work depending on the font. This is a much needed change.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign18 күн бұрын
The Move command works for me with text. To pattern text you first have to click on it and select "Explode text" and then it will treat it like a sketch entity made up of lines and arcs. Some fonts are tricky for sure. In general Explode Text is used after you are sure the Text is right becuase you cant edit after you explode it other than manually drawing lines to fix it.
@happywanderer563218 күн бұрын
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I find that "Explode Text" often doesn't work and leaves you with disjointed objects that can't be extruded. It's very poorly implemented :( The other thing I'd like to see is the font parameterized. Sometimes you need to experiment with fonts to see which one works best, so the ability to change the font and see the change reflected would be very handy. As it is now, you have to delete the exploded text and try again. Fusion is powerful, but the sketch environment desperately needs an upgrade.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign17 күн бұрын
@@happywanderer5632 I agree 1000% I really wish the sketch tools got more love for many years. On the text. if you don't explode it you can double click to change the font, size etc. After you explode it nope. If i am just extruding text i generally don't explode it. If i need to modify the letters that is when i explode it. The only other current work around is to generate text as SVG in another program and bring them in. even less than ideal....

Moved to FreeCad a while back. Fully parametric, imagine adjusting your model with a spreadsheet. No more bloatware for me.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesignАй бұрын
Im sure freecad is a great tool and glad it works for you. They aren't exactly apples to apples though. For me a big part of the process is the user interface and UX. I have used a lot of CAD packages and still do and while Fusion isn't perfect it is the most user friendly one I have found. Open source software often times has a real limit on the UI/UX (even with Rhino this is very apparent). But aside from that Fusion handles mesh/freeform modeling. simulation, gen design, CAM etc. Compared to the space and intrusion other programs i run like Solidworks and Inventor, Fusion is far from "bloatware". Free/open source community supported software is great but its tricky to use in a professional sense. I use Solidworks still because some of my clients require it, not because i really enjoy using it anymore :)
