As a Painter user since Painter 4 (when they sold the application in an actual paint can), I can say that the fluid brushes are truly a worthwhile upgrade. For very nuanced reasons, I'm actually going to be trashing many of my legacy "just cannot live without" brushes. This does not seem like a significant upgrade, but it certainly is! And for those who don't plan on upgrading, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR MacOS to Ventura!!!! Painter 2022 will not run properly, so much so that the program will be rendered useless.

@@RoxaneLapa They seriously did sell Painter in an actual paint can. Back then, I think it took like 10 3-inch floppy disks to install -- AND TALK ABOUT LAGGY BRUSHES!

Thanks for the video. I will wait to check if there will be a Humble Bundle again in late October. They had the Bundle for the last years for just around only 30 Dollars and that even included some brush packs. In fall 2022 I got Painter 2022 and hope to get Painter 2023 in the fall of 2023.

There's a bundle right now $30 for a lot of stuff, I don't understand all of it but I've been thinking about getting into digital art just don't know if I should.

@@James-ep8bh It is the Corel Bundle, yes. You will never get Corel Painter cheaper, it usually costs several hundred dollar, and most of the other stuff in the bundle are brush packs. each worth around 20+ dollar. I rarely use those, but for a beginner they are great. Corel Painter It is a great app, just be prepared for quite a steep learning curve. But there are great tutorials which will help you a lot to learn the app. IMHO it is the best painting app out there, I have been using it since around 2010, but don't want to pay the much higher price tag for the updates. So, I am always a year behind with the version, but I really don't mind. You have to decide quick, the bundle at Humble Bundle only lasts a short time. Maybe watch some videos here on YT and give it a try. You should buy a drawing tablet for your computer as well, painting with a mouse is not fun at all. But that does not have to be an expensive Wacom tablet or even a Display tablet. Some simple and cheap one will do just fine. I can really recommend the Star06 wireless from XP (which is on sale on the XP website right now) , I use that with my laptop. It is lightweight but durable, I can take it with me and I always use it underway, which is a lot. Have had that for almost 4 years now and it still works great.

I certainly would like to see that inking pack demonstration. But as for Corel Painter 2023, I'd rather wait to see if they fix the bugs first. It's a very expensive upgrade and I'd rather do them every two years since the major improvements seem to be more by design.

I hear you. If we go by their track record, they will likely only fix the bugs in the next version. Sadly they don't seem to issue patches mid version, and they really should for it's price. Still, it's the best version so far. Hoping to get that inking demo and brush set out this month still so keep an eye out :)

I upgraded recently and honestly.. there is virtually no reason to do so. It's a really weak upgrade... not worth the money in my opinion. Also, after a few months.. it now crashes at start up and uninstalling, then reinstalling does nothing to fix the problem. It was a mistake to upgrade.

@@inkandgrowrich9793 I hope Corel addresses that. Constant crashing is supposed to be addressed by now. If the new features are to blame for the instability then it will haunt them in the next upgrade. I bought version 2022 because it's supposed to handle heavy work.

So I would retry the "Swoosh" brush but paint over an existing image. It's laggy because its doing a lot of math when you use it. It is listed as "Fluid : Paint and Blend". Its adding new paint and blending with what exists behind it. I feel like if you took an image of a "moving car" like a night time-lapse photo does, this brush would single handed make the lines of the taillights and headlights. Instead of needing to edit the original and making it look "added on" it will blend smoothly with one operation. Like image driving next to a car and taking a picture of it focused on the front right side of it. Half way down the car will be blurred lines and stretched out lights from where the car last was seen by the camera. Would be neat for you to give it a shot since I don't have this painter upgrade!

Hi @katm1884. It depends on what kind of brushes they are. If you watch from time stamp 29:54, I talk about how to convert older brushes. If you're not able to tick the "use fluid paint" checkbox, it's because either the cover method isn't set to enhanced, or the brush type itself isn't compatible.

I can't get any of my Painter 2023 brushes or yours to lay down paint in a .psd. I 've repeatedly tried to deselect, despite nothing being selected. Suggestions? Affinity Photo v2.3 works perfectly, so it's not the computer.

Just bought Painter 2023 and just installed a patch. The expand/minimize/close buttons on my Mac Mini (OS also updated) are missing from the top left corner. My Mini has a M2 chip. Is Painter 2023 compatible with new Macs?

I don’t have a Mac myself, but I know several of the beta testers were using Macs, so yes, it should be compatible.

I see the Black Friday deal is offering the upgrade from my current 2022 version at a big discount and am sorely tempted to pick it up. Are the keyboard shortcuts the same between versions? I actually downloaded the trial a few weeks ago but work swept me away and I wasted my opportunity to try it for free

Yes I believe they are the same. I typically change a few of my keybindings each version to be more like photoshop, for example making transform ctrl+t. Things like that.

I haven't had the opportunity to try Rebelle. The little bit I've seen of it over the years leads me to believe they are heavily marketing it towards traditional watercolor/oil artists. I'm very much a digital artist though and haven't painted on a real canvas in probably 20 years. Still, given the opportunity, I'd love to test it. Are you a fan of the software?

@@RoxaneLapa Yes, I've used rebelle 5 a lot. The more I use it, the more I like it. I'm also primarily a digital artist. Most of my videos use rebelle. I still have a lot to learn with it though. Every new version has been quite an impressive upgrade. Every time I see a sale for painter I end up searching for review videos, lol. I'm still using painter 2020, though rebelle has taken over as my primary app.

@@RoxaneLapa To be honest Painter is a lot more feature-packed, and a more complete program for digital illustration. But Rebelle feels so good to paint with. It may be the fact that it is much more straightforward, without too much clutter. You just pick a brush (pretty good presets with little need for tweaks) and you start painting. I really like the oils and watercolors on it, haven't experimented with the rest too much, but they seem decent too. Especially now with Rebelle 5 pro it's a lot of fun to turn on pigments and just play with the digital palette after picking 3-4 colors.

Also sign up for the HumbleBundle newsletter because twice they have had bundles that include Painter - not the latest version but for dirt cheap. Maybe they will do that again.

I'm on Painter 19 using RXY Essential Painting Brushes Legacy.brushcategory. I'm getting my Mac Mini M2 with Painter 2023 next week. Can I use RXY Essential Painting Brushes 23.brushcategory or should I download a newer set? Your brushes have replaced all my old brushes. Totally love them! Has Painter fixed 2023 fluid paint and selection bugs you mentioned yet?

That's awesome to hear that my brushes have been so useful. Makes me happy :) You can use the v19 brushes without any problems, but the newer ones I made for v23 are better I think. No to the bug fixes. Unfortunately it seems Corel's not big on free patches. They ship it with bugs and then hopefully fix it in the next paid version.
