What’s new in the 2020 edition of AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code - Steel

D1.1 is the American National Standard (ANS) which spells out the requirements for design, procedures, qualifications, fabrication, inspection and repair of steel structures made of tubes, plate and structural shapes that are subject to either static or cyclic loading. This webinar presentation describes changes to the 2020 edition of this critically important code.

Richard Campbell is a Bechtel Fellow and Welding Technical Specialist with Bechtel Corp. Instrumental in assisting the company's welding program to receive the AWS/WEMCO Excellence in Welding Award for the Large Business Category in 2015, Dr. Campbell provides technical direction to the company and its executives in areas related to welding and metallurgy. After earning a BS degree in Welding and Mechanical Engineering at LeTourneau University and a PhD in Materials Engineering from RPI, he has worked for nearly 40 years in the welding industry. He is an AWS SCWI and CWE, and ASNT Level III Visual Testing Inspector, a Level 2 Certified Welding Inspector with the Canadian Welding Bureau and holds a PE license in Metallurgical Engineering. He is an AWS instructor and has taught the AWS CWI classes for over 20 years.

Hello Sirs, I am making a WPS in accordance with AWS D1.1 2020 Structural Welding Code and I have a problems when specifying the MAXIMUM PREHEATING TEMPERATURE as well as the maximum interpass temperature. According to AWS, the maximum preheating and interpass temperature shall be shown on WPS but there is no instructions to help me pick up maximum preheating temperature in AWS D1.1 CODE. Could you please tell me how to specify the maximum preheating temperature or which materials that i can refer to find out the instructions. Thank you so much in advance
