What's New With Funkin'?

We're gonna go through everything new added to Funkin' since the Week 7 build all the way back in April of 2021. Honestly it's quite a bit, but thankfully it's been condensed into this short and sweet video.

Not gonna lie, i wish they'd kept the thing with Monster's poses being in the wrong direction. It makes him look like a freak compared to the other characters. Plus, it's pretty iconic.

Nah considering the devs actively fixed that means monster was SUPPOSED to have his left and right animations on the correct sides but he was just bugged out and it took until now with the weekend 1 update for it to be fixed finally

@@ryukuoooo no it was definitely a bug in the code i'm focusing on the coding side of monsters swapped left and right animations and it was most likely and definitely a bug caused by monster already having been unused but then when readded hadn't had his left and right animations fixed properly until recently

The death animation at 6:49 is actually not for week 4. In the source code for the week 4 lamppost dodging mechanic, there's a note left saying they scrapped the mechanic (at least for now) because they'd have to make a new death animation for it. A while back phantom arcade made post on twitter taking a photo of a fully colored frame of the animation which I assume was fully finished by that point and that post was made before they scrapped the mechanic. Also pretty sure dave was joking about the pico animation at 7:00 being in the options menu by the tone of his voice and when he first sketched the animation, it had an overlay on it that was the same as the other results screen animations he was making at the time. He said in the original stream sketching it that he thinks very few people will get to see the dancing animation so it's probably a P rank pico animation.

Couple things not mentioned for the upcoming section: More erect remixes (Such as MILF, which was teased in the erect sampler but curiously is the only erect sampler song to not be added to the game yet. Pico mixes, which were teased through an ARG stemming from the erect sampler, where you play as Pico rather than BF and GF for all of the story mode songs. All WeekEnds are confirmed to have Pico as the playable. And finally, Dave said he is considering adding the OLD version of tracks, such as Erect Sampler's Fresh Erect and the old Bopeebo Erect, to the files, playable, to reward filediggers. Also, the pico dancing animation.. ISNT for pico mixes ranks..? Edit: Also, since this video was uploaded, Dave has already revealed some new things, such as a week 9 song being named "Homicide" and the next update being a destination update, which will not be week 8.

Ghost tapping seems to be left in the code! It seems they aren't done implementing it but are still considering its addition. I think it doesn't work like the ghost tapping we're used to in Psych and rather just makes it so you don't lose points and HP when no notes are currently on your screen. If there are notes you have to play, it'll function as it does right now which is honestly fair. It prevents mashing through every chart at the very least.

kinda similar to DDR rules, except DDR technically allows ghost tapping all the time - there's just tight enough timing windows for proper steps and big enough ones for judgments that break your combo that you can't just freak out like you can in Kade and Psych and expect it to work.

Actually, it works as it does in every other mod, just funkin’ has a thing called “ghost missing” where if you hit a note way too early it grays out. It’s a way of anti spam that works really well, as you can see

In my opinion, as a charter, the old debug menu was way more easy to use. It had fewer option, and the line wasnt snapping to grid when you stopped the playback. (atleast from what i remember when i used it, which was a while ago and left me not wanting to use it again) Making the notes longer definetely was better just clicking e or q, but it guess its more of a my problem thing. The flying windows, are not ideal, as they cover the screen, you have to place and enable them one by one. Though, importing song samples is quite easier now, which is really cool. I guess It wouldn't take a long time to learn all the stuff in it, but i really prefer the old one.

There's a good chance they only add it in for sections without any notes and remove it during proper gameplay also, apparently tapping currently when there's no notes doesn't actually add to your miss counter - perhaps they're considering adding a counter to keep track of every ghost input you made.
