Blox intake manifold, 68mm TB. Crower non vtec cams stage 2, 1320 Toda Replica header and a Apexi Noir exhaust system. P28 with jumper harness and tune. Good for around 185 whp 170tq. It's really the way to go. Cams are 500. Header is like 220. Exhaust is like 580. I've had the Noir twice. It's super quiet, and stealth. If you're really going to autocross you'll love the torque.
@middletonrippberger6 жыл бұрын
The blox manifold unless its your only option is, In my opinion dumpster worthy. It dose have an IACV port that has been shifted so you can port it to match a 70mm TB without having to back weld it like a P73 (type-R). But other than that it is just a really poor recasting of a OEM P73 manifold. The last Blox manifold I port matched had runners that were off from the ports in the head by a full 1/4". the Skunk2 manifolds (also not my first pick) have much larger ID runners than a Blox. They don't have the same port alignment issues and come with 70mm TB opening (the blox has a 63mm TB opening witch makes a larger TB pointless unless its ported to match) The 1320 Toda rep is a good starting point (if you can tig weld and have a good air tool and a carbide burr) but need some work if you really want power out of them. ( see my 2nd to last post on IG @1992da9rs ) Chipped P28 is like frosting a nice cake with mud because it looks close enough. Hondata, AEM EMS, Haltech, MoTech, K-pro, K-tuner, ........ anything else is better than a chipped stock ecu. Not exactly sure how you came up with that hp and torque number but they are high and unrealistically close together for a B-series. 170ft-lbs normally comes with a hp number like 230+ and there is no way its making that on a cams and bolt-ons 9.0:1 compression 1.8L ls motor.

@@jiakabery3550 Crower is definitely not Ebay. Blox is only just barely not Ebay. The b20 is a pretty under rated motor for its NA potential without having to put a vtec head on it. ..... but this car doesnt have a b20 in it.

I wouldn't put that on a budget build, more like a project car I was really going to make perfect. That's why I feel that you should just go all out on it instead of saying you're going budget when youre already stepping over the budget build point in the first place.

Being a long time Integra owner of nine years, I have been through the thoughts you are thinking. Here are a few things you could consider. First off, fix that windshield trim! That rubber bit sticking out in your video? Replace that. Water and such can get in there and rust away the A pillar over a long period of time. You can get replacement trim from the dealer brand new still, or the junkyard if you find some in good condition. Burning oil is nothing new for an old B series. You could need some new valve seals, or maybe even piston rings. Do a compression test AND a leak down test to figure out where that oil is going. Then you can figure out where you want to take the engine from there. Both tests together cost less than $200, and you could do the compression test yourself to save money (and teach folks how to do one if they do not know already). This will give you an idea of how healthy your engine is, and whether you want to keep it or not. After that, you have some options. Swapping a VTEC head onto the B18B1 block is the cheapest way to get LS/VTEC. Golden Eagle makes a kit for less than $300 that provides everything you need for it in terms of conversion. That leaves you to figure out parts such as the head, intake manifold, throttle body, etc. You would also have to source an ECU (or use the one you have) and have it tuned properly, which is more money. If your current block is in poor condition and requires a rebuild, you may want to switch to a high compression B20. These will give you more displacement, torque, and power, for less than LS/VTEC would. You can find them for less than $1000 usually, either the 99-00 B20B from Japan, or the 99-00 B20Z that was used in America. Both have the same 9.6:1 compression ratio, and have knock sensors to tell them apart from their low compression variants. A B20/VTEC swap, while an option, costs a lot of money to do THE RIGHT WAY. You could just slap together a VTEC head and B20 bottom end and call it a day, but the details that get you the most out of this route are worth the time, money, and attention they require. Not the cheapest way to go by any means. You also already have a viable engine for LS/VTEC, should you choose this route. Or you could leave it alone. The B18B1, while not the most potent engine in the Honda lineup back then, is still plenty of engine to have fun with. As you mentioned, the gears in an LS transmission are looooong. It is an economy car version. If you want shorter gearing, you can do what a friend of mine did and swap in a B16 transmission. If you have it cracked open, you could even put a limited slip differential in it from MFactory. Tearing into a transmission should not be done lightly, however, so have a manual handy, preferably a friend who has done it before. If you want a little more noise that does not sound like "rice", try out an AEM short ram intake with their Dryflow air filter. You get a better sound with a stock exhaust, but only when you actually get on it. When driving casually, you will not notice it. DO NOT GET A COLD AIR INTAKE! I cannot stress this enough. These will drop the filter low to the ground, and while the air may be cooler, you heavily increase the chance of sucking water into your engine and hydrolocking it. This risk especially applies to people who daily drive their cars in inclement weather. Trust me, I have seen this happen way too many times, and I would hate to see it happen to you. You have already done a lot of the other mods most would like to do; not only that, you did them before doing engine modifications, which most people make the mistake of doing first. This should give you some ideas of where to start. I have owned my 98 GSR for the last nine years. When it was time to get a second car and park the GSR long term, I bought another Integra, just a month ago. Now I have a 94 RS which I just spent a week at Tail of the Dragon with. Everything was stock, save for that AEM intake that I purchased from a friend when I got there, and I was skeptical how much fun I would have without my GSR this year. I had a friggin blast. If you want to know what performance modifications you should look into next, go there with some friends and take a few laps of the road. I say with friends because you should not drive the road alone, and you should definitely take it slow the first few runs. It will show you what kind of car you have, and what kind of driver you are.

If you want to really go hard with the b20b, mate it with a gsr or b16 transmission and that will snap up that acceleration a bit.GSR will be a little more fuel friendly though. Food for thought.

For something along the lines of a budget motor build you definitely should go with a vtec head. Keeping it reliable such as a gsr water pump/timing belt. Something that’ll be very cheap, and power productive are YCP “higher compression” pistons. It’s a budget piston but I’ve seen many many reliable builds with these pistons being beat everyday and for years on end. Along with that to make the most out of it you would want to do cams, valve train, as well as getting an ecu chipped and tuned. Budget ways to do this is to tune through a chipped p28 through chrome of course. This is a VERY common route. It’d make a little nice semi-built budget build for around $1500, especially when scavenging used quality performance parts, a great example would be finding some Type R cams anywhere from $250-$300. I know you have a lot of Honda buds and I’m sure they could chime in on a budget all motor B series. I hope at least some of this helped or inspired any ideas. Can’t wait David! 👍🏻🤪

There aren't that many recognized youtubers doing clean Honda builds, yes there are a few that do it on a budget like Kyle from BoostedBoiz, but if you loved Kevin's Integra I honestly thought you were going to do something similar. Keeping the LS motor on a car you've done everything suspension, brake, wheels and tires on is really disappointing. You could do a really cool B series vtec build if you don't want to spend the extra cash it takes for a K swap. People like budget builds yes, and I get you want that to be the theme on the series, but most people with Hondas built for tracks do this types of modifications. LS Turbo owner here - my advice is dont go LSV because the power margin gained isnt significant enough. dont cheap out even if its supposed to be a cheap car build. Believe me, as a kid, I used to think Vtec was the way to go to make more power, but after wasting so much time and money on it, i could of put that same money sourcing the parts, trial and error, and put it into a proper charger. With a charger, you can always turn down the boost. I was making 265whp @ 22psi with 1000cc injectors and basic boltons. I daily the car at 12psi for 4 years no problem before i sold it to make room for a family. From California i went to texas and back, and vegas and back with no problems. All i recommend is if you go turbo, get a good oil cooler kit so you can run the turbo hard on the track without worries. Dont think of the expensive, think of the smiles per gallon, plus you wont regret it.

You just get better low end torque. People will do LS/VTEC swaps and go through the gears at 8,500 and sacrifice reliability for the low end torque. That is if they just slap a VTEC head on a stock LS block. If they rebuild the bottom end the right way, it will be more reliable. If the car isn't driven a lot, 10k-30k miles can seem like a lot on a setup. It's worth the money to let someone who knows what they are doing assemble a setup so you can get 100k or more miles out of the build. I watched someone use a Golden Eagle LS/VTEC kit on a stock LS block and stock B16 head baby the car until it had 1,500-2,000 miles on it and spin a bearing the first time he went WOT.
@wackomanx6 жыл бұрын
I think he figured since the motor had some break in miles on it and figured the stock LS block could take the same RPM limit as a GSR or Type-R, he could shift at 8,400-8,900 RPM and found out that wasn't the case. He didn't even get to enjoy it before he was pulling the motor and taking apart the bottom end.

First of all, as an Integra GSR owner, b series burn oil. It's just what they do! I burn about 1 qt every 2000 miles and it's never gone up or down. Don't worry about it. Second, I think a VTEC swap is definitely worth it. Getting full body work done and k tuned parts aren't necessarily "budget" for most people, and a VTEC swap isn't relatively expensive! VTEC is what makes Honda's Honda's...some people might say the power bump isn't worth it, but it's about the experience and how the car feels right? Huge changes in exhaust/induction note at 4500 rpm and 6100 rpm respectively, as well as 8000 rpms is truly rare nowadays! I think it'll really awaken the car. It won't decrease your daily fuel economy by much anyways haha

Just supercharge it at 8-10lbs. Way more useable power. VTEC wont really gain you much on LS, a little top end power and of course the sound. Supercharged LS or B20 is fun as hell on the street. Turbos are a PITA to fit everything and maintain, something is always wrong with them. My last turbo civic I just parted out and washed my hands of the whole turbo money pit lol..

5H4V3D89 A LS vtec with bolt ons and a tune will give you around 200-210whp and rev to almost 9k. They are actually pretty damn fun. There is a reason a b16a head on a LS block is called a "poor mans TypeR" they run pretty good when done, for what they are!!

As an Ap2 owner, good job on not being stupid with the integera and doing cliche mods. Not sure how much in the states but maybe a k20 or k24 swap from a junked rsx or tsx? Most you can go for all out NA on a fully built k swap around 350whp On a chassis that light you don't want more than 250whp realistically, it'll be amazing on track
@BESTNOODLEREVIEWS6 жыл бұрын
Do an LSVTEC build. Find a VTEC head, around 300~. Oil sandwich plate to run it, replace the seals with OEM seals, and get it tuned. That's a budget build for a fun daily driver. I only recommend this because I've done it.

I fully understand what you mean about the gas mileage, it's awesome lol. As for what to do next, it really doesn't require much to make your current power plant a little more fun to drive without sacrificing gas mileage too much. I don't know what engine mods you have done but I would recommend a decent quality Intake, Header and Exhaust system. They can really help to wake up that little B18B. Also, swap out that long geared LS transmission for a shorter (but not too short) GSR transmission. The shorter gearing will really help scoot it around town and brings out the most of the torque that engine provides while not being TOO short that you sacrifice highway mileage by being too high up in the revs. A B16/Type-R transmission of course will make it even more fun with the shorter gears around town but you'll be pegged at around 4500rpm's at 80mph on the highway. You say you would like to eventually Auto-X with the car, the transmission will be a big bonus for the car as it will keep the revs in the optimal power band. Other than that, just drive it and enjoy the fruits of your labor. The car looks great dude, enjoy! -Justin
@MrJcoupe966 жыл бұрын
PS, I saw that you're worried about an obnoxious exhaust if you got rid of the factory muffler. Your answer, Apexi World Sport. The full catback system brings out some very nice torque out of these dual cams and they're ridiculously quiet all while looking great (one of the nicest exhuast systems for Honda's IMO). The full catback is not cheap, I'll admit but you'll thank me later!

I recommend as a budget to buy the b20b high compression. Thru cost around $450-600 at jdm warehouses. I've had 2 so far and both have been reliable and great on gas from a LS transmission. Throw on a vtec head and you're good to go. Fun reliable daily project car
@StrEEtRidEr906 жыл бұрын
To keep it kind of budget, I too recommend vtec head swap. Maybe keep the b16 or gsr head stock, and put some nippon type r pistons and some arp rod bolts. You’ll be able to rev to 8k safely and everything can be done at home.

I own an 08 si, here are my thoughts: one of the biggest point of getting a Honda as a car guy is vtec, so I would suggest go with the vtec head, some simple bolt on’s (cold air intake, exhaust, tune) and you should be good from there.
@gregporter30886 жыл бұрын
Gut the back half of the interior, check the motor out and make sure it’s gonna survive, intake/header/exhaust, mild cam, a professional tune, done. Just because you swap exhausts doesn’t mean it has to be super loud. Fun street car, good for momentum driving with a little more punch than it has now. That’s the solution

@TheBb6prelude6 жыл бұрын
Howaboutnow it’s a ricer mod spending money on looks first before performance. The interior is perfectly fine aside from the color. So why spend money on it? When you can put that towards a vtec head or a header.
@benclark94556 жыл бұрын
Definitely would recommend GSR swap over doing a head, and you might find in the end after selling the ls that the swap would be the same price or a little more than doing a head and you would get a brand new motor with low miles.

Sounds almost exactly like me with my EP3 Civic Si. My K20A3 also has some oil consumption issues (loses a quart/4,000 mi), but it's dead reliable aside from that. I get the "do a VTEC Killer/K20A2/K24A2 swap or boost" all the time, but I don't need this car to have globs of power, I'm cool with just having a car that still has a bit of a pulse as a daily since I have my AWD ST185 Celica to do all the boosting stuff with. Honestly, I say stay true to your vision for the car, if you're wanting to keep it in the affordable, reliable, 'slow car fast' territory, more power to you! As long as you're having fun with it!

I know you want to stay budget but an H2B setup and a GReddy full exhaust. It’ll have good pickup and balance still and you’ll have a great sound plus the H swap isn’t terribly expensive and if you keep it stock it’ll stay reliable.

VTEC head is a good idea. Idk if that fits the budget idea tho. What I would do if I was you, is find the oil leakage where it burns (probs a head gasket), change that, then if you want more power, get a tune, cold air intake, and small exhaust

I made 175whp in my LS with Brian Crower S2 Cams and a valvetrain to match. With a tune and bolt-ons it’s more than enough to be just as fun to drive as my C63. No need for LS/VTEC.

For some more power with out all that goes into a LSVtec. Ap1 or Ap2 throttle body it will mount up to a 96 and new Integra manifold that will give you more air. Then Crower stage 1 cams they work with your stock valve train is another option. 3in cold air intake and headers and nice exhaust system with a hondata s300 and tune. The 1230 Performance UEL header makes your car sound like a boxer if you want a different sound.

Modify your steering to get a better turn radius. Remove any weight for a better power to weight ratio. Change your exhaust system for a slight boost in performance. You can also mix and match parts from other B series engines to your B. There's A LOT you can do to get better performance under a budget.

@mimitsunekitkat6 жыл бұрын
Tbh I think a subtle exhaust setup wouldn't be a bad idea. I think it'll help free up some horses. Just look for something where you can actually hear the car when you get on it, but it's still quiet in regular driving. I'm not really familiar with all the exhaust kits out there, but I'm sure something like this exists. +1 for single affordable bucket seat and steering wheel. Also, as a Honda guy, get the VTEC head. You can't have old school Honda without VTEC. And finally, consider getting an LSD. I'm not really into autocross, but I'm pretty sure it makes a big difference for FWD cars like this. Plus, you can make your final drive shorter.

I've always LOVED the round headlights of a USDM teg. Like the jdm look but the round headlights just set the front of the car and give it the uniqueness of round headlights which arent as popular. Been enjoying this build a lot and makes me want to get another integra again to do right and simple. I'd say tint the car and get an exhaust with a valve so you can go incognito
@MumbleVlogs6 жыл бұрын
If your planning to do the vtec head, you might have to look into getting better pistons aswell. you could be putting to much stress on the ls pistons if your reving it up over 8k. another thing would be to probably upgrade the oil pump aswell. I have seen si many people blow up le/vtecs due to something as simple as the oil pump going out. I know you want a simple build, but a decent size turbo might get you to 260-280hp on very low psi and it would still be a reliable car.
