The Kurds are a pretty amazing group of folks. Have always treated women far better than their contemporaries and neighbors, (for hundreds of years) are incredibly peaceful but fight like tigers when wronged (the women too). I hope and pray they can grow their fragile democracy into a stable country.

@Pasdar the female "circumsicion" is a "service" brought to us kurds from turks, who got it from their central asian ancestors. Get your facts right son, its mostly practiced by kazakhs, turkmens, and other central asians.

Nathan Callidor and these 3 nations have existed for about a century, there was no self determination involved in the formation of much of what we call the nations of the Middle East. The borders are defined by French and British interests at the time of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. These are a people who have been persecuted, gassed and bombed by vicious dictators in recent history. They have an admirable culture and absolutely deserve the unification and independence they have been fighting for.

Maybe something provocative, like three bronze statues of men and women strung between the arches, as if they were put there on display by the daesh, by the islamic state.

@Comrade Stalin Suryoyo Gypsy, Neither is Iran today the motherland of the Kurds nor are the Kurds from Iran: 1. Today's Iran is only a very small part of historical Iran, which ruled over the territories of the new states "Turkey", "Syria", "Iraq", when there were no Arabs or Turks in those regions. 2. Kurds do not come from Iran, but have come about through the mixing of ancient Mesopotamian and Anatolian peoples with Iranian peoples, such as Parthians and / or Medes. The Iranian peoples began with the beginning of Ethnogenesis of the Kurds by linguistically and culturally prevailing over the other peoples in today's Kurdish settlement area, or have the other iranisiert or assimilated.

So people here overwhelmingly support the Kurds having their own homeland (i do as well), but how many people here are happy to support a multicultural Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, etc? I just find a lot of double standards whereby its just assumed the Kurds, without question, should be allowed a homeland of their own and to remain the overwhelming majority within their own borders but many European nations MUST be multiculural and accept large number of non Europeans (not even just other Europeans but African, Arabs, etc) to the point that statsistically they’ll be a minority in their own countries in several generations, and anyone who objects to this is “racist, hitler, insert generic insult”. Just intereting to compare the double standards.

Rojava isnt an ethno state (or a singular "state" more of a loose confederation of cantons) nor is the ypg a nationalist force. You're thinking of the Iraqi kurds. While most of those fighting for independance of Northern Syria are Kurdish, there are also Assyrians, Arabs, Armenians etc. and is just as multicultural. Which is good, because we could do with less theocracies or ethnostates especially in the middle east, which has caused nothing but bloodshed and genocide (Iraq, Israel, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia)
@Hustlin87
@Hustlin87 5 жыл бұрын
sam n Ok, so multiculturalism in this part of the world only includes people indigenous to the local area or close by? What they really need is the sort of multiculturalism forced onto European peoples, why not import 500,000 Africans, 500,000 Bangladeshis and 500,000 Hondurans into Kurdish lands every single year? That would be real multiculturalism, the same type the media keeps telling us is a strength! These people will be the new Kurds and if the current Kurds complain its cause theyre Nazis and Hitlers, great right?

sam n It can be any large number of 3rd world people, take your pick of any country. You can be sure Western governments will take them all in with open arms at the expense of, and against the will of their own people. If youre non white and want to live in a country that is predominantly your own people, thats considered perfectly acceptable and not questioned. If youre white and want to live in a country that is predominantly your own people, youre callled a racist, nazi, hitler, extremist, etc your government will arrest you, the media and activists will shame you, harass you, become violent towards you, etc. Double standards is an understatement.

It prevents the best person(be it female or male) from getting the position that person deserved through merit. But ...maybe it is needed for a certain short time, until Equality Of Opportunity is inalienably set into their constitution And minds/culture; at which point it Has to be replaced with a 'Pure' meritocracy without male or female quotas.

@@charlesm.hernandez264 How so?, if Kurdistan wants to be safe from Imperialists, They need Nuclear weapons, Or be libya. Look at venezuela. No nuclear weapons, US backed coup claiming Guaido no body as president without an election. FYI I am a veteran myself. You are sending yourself to a war that isn't in for your interest or fellow Americans. Its all about oil and pipelines. Worst is you are in the Army. You directly put yourself to die for corrupt politicians. You may not realize, but when you learn more you will know. Watch jimmy dore. Watch jarmal Thomas, Watch kim Iversen. Watch secular talk, watch humanists report. I didn't I was in the Navy doing Maintenance. Im an idiot but the US never bothered to Invade a weak military like north korea because? Even if they had Concentration camps and were constantly threatening the United States? Why? Oh thats right, nuclear weapons... Why didn't they invade libya earlier? Oh thats right, nuclear weapons were in the way first. Oh thats right, hillary laughed at gadaafis death. Because he wanted to create African Currency Backed with gold.

Your last name must be 'Asshole'. What Kurdistan needs is unwavering, 100% support from the International community, provided that they do not deviate from their current path. Had I been a young Doctor, Engineer, Scientist, Industrialist or similar, I would have applied for permission to reside and work in Kurdistan tomorrow.

The title is misleading. Calling fighters of the SDF "Kurds" makes people believe everyone involved is Kurdish. Large number of Arabs and smaller portions of Assyrians fight and inhabit the land east of the Euphrates. Painting the SDF and it's Northern territories as a "Kurdish State" is sinister. The two are not synonymous and undermines the supposed wish for federalism to accommodate all ethnicities. This whitewashing is nothing new. The YPG already altered text books for schools under their administration with Kurdish propaganda. It's Communist ideology fueled by ethno-nationalism.

@† In hoc † Signo † Vinces In the links below you can get a better understanding of the situation. Simply put, During WW1 Ottomans, Persians and Kurdish tribes genocided Christian Assyrians. In the SDF held North-Eastern territory where the 'Kurdish' state is bubbling today, their textbooks ignore the Assyrian language and culture, glossing over their genocide by Kurdish hands. It's filled mostly with revisionist Kurdish nationalism. morningstarnews.org/2018/10/kurdish-authorities-in-syria-close-schools-run-by-assyrian-christians/ en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assyrian_genocide

Why is Syria called a "regime" while kurds are called "Syrian Democratic Forces". What exactly is "democratic" in the kurds structures? Kurds never voted, they have no parliament, no president, nothing democratic at all. Syria has all democratic elements but is called a Regime (by those hypocrites).

Syria is not a democracy. It's in a grey area between a republic and dictatorship. The country can best be summarized as a republic with regular elections, with some dictatorial threads. The SDF is controlled by Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, which is an elected governing body, look up 2017 Northern Syria local elections. Furthermore, the SDF states its mission as fighting to create a secular, democratic and federal Syria. That's were the name comes from. Hopefully this cleared up your confusion on the subject.
