I like to think that the only audience for the AI market are people who want the result, don't care about humans, and are fascinated by the latest gadgets and gizmos. Basically, big corp. In an extreme future, AI will be used by every business, and all their sites will look the same, except for the people who love to code, those who do it because they want to. Those sites will be beautiful. They'll have soul. They will be so noticeably different, and customers would know. Big corps will slow down, and not know why. They turn to AI for the answer. They try the same thing over and over and over again. Eventually, the corps go bankrupt, and the internet will be full of beautiful showcases of human ingenuity. But hey, that's just a theory. A FUTURE theory. And as always, thanks for reading.

To add to that, at the moment this whole AI Any% Speedrun is targeting C-Level managers who need to "show results" and "show growth or change" to justify their positions. Sure, your trained designer eye sees that all those websites "are kinda the same", kind of like how most AI Generated images have a certain "hm something's off" feeling. But the John Manager from the Profit Company doesn't care. A good example is the Localization / Translation Industry, where in the past months every language providing company has started pushing AI Translations Tools on to the actual translators with the promise "you'll do it so much faster", where in reality it always has to be fully re-translated. As everyone here says, AI should be a Tool and not the means to an end ✌ Though I feel like this message will never get to Silicon Valley.

When your last line of defense is that what you're doing has a "soul"... well, you're in deep shit. It means you've left the realm of value and rationality for bullshit. Then of course there's a market for it, look at contemporary art, and quite a few people will want something that costs a lot of money (for no real reason) just to consume ostentatiously. It's probably more useful to try and understand the transformations and effects that AI will have on our activities than to deplore or laugh about it (pretty much what the video is trying to do). When writing first appeared, people were already complaining about the disappearance of memory and the havoc it would wreak. You're right about one thing, though: keep making beautiful, well-made things. See if you can bring something better/more to your customers. And use AI when it makes sense, if it does. Today, not using github copilot, for example, seems to me extremely odd for prototyping. Of course, it doesn't do everything, but it does make it possible to go so fast. Then you go back to the drawing board, make improvements and so on. I don't know about tomorrow, but today it's not "all ai" or "not at all ai". The most astonishing thing is to fight to assert that these are just tools. Who says they aren't?

@@petitcoIibris I agree, AI has the potential to drastically aid any and all industries. I've been using ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas, and I use it as if it were another person to bounce ideas off of. It's pretty good most of the time, and sometimes offers some helpful tips, but ultimately I'm the one leading the creative process. In my opinion, my humanity is still evident in my work. I'm not going "hey AI, make a ... website for me, optimising the number of sales per customer," I'm going "hey AI, I'm thinking of ... what do you think? Do you have any ideas to expand on this idea further?" Honestly, I was skeptical at first about how much of a part of the process I'd have in the end, but now I understand that the way I use AI is like a tool, just like a good computer, or a piece of rendering software, or a brainstorming app like Trello or tldraw. I'm all for it, as long as it stays in its place as just something to aid another human, or group of humans.

The thing with generative AI is that for the end user they doesn't have much of a real use-case (for now at least). But it's super helpful for us devs/designers. Drafting website copy, filling in images that weren't used like 23546954 times before on every single page ever, and just getting some ideas in general. I love to think these tools, like Framer AI, or Webflow AI as experiments at this point. Both for me and the company behind it. Trying to find their place. With that said, we're still early in this so it's impossible to tell what direction AI and generative tools will take in the next 5-10 years. Also, you're on fire with the content!

Very true, it is missing a little thing i think : it's what "designers" and "webdev" are already doing. Complaining about copy paste template and repetitive pattern was already a thing before AI. A very misleading things is to pretend that something like "using ai" is only fill a prompt and let's goooooooo. As of today those tools requires work and knowledge. With time you can do things pretty awsome with AI generated content. You have to work with it for a time though a not think a 10 words prompt will get you the best website and most unique UI. On this topic i fear we are unable to count to 3.

Ease of creation doesn't mean that there's no value in a designer. Over the years there have been plenty tools and systems that make designing easier, and just because things are easier, doesn't mean people won't make terrible crap anymore. You just have to walk around an MMO that has some form of creation/fashion system to see swamps of people with bright 100% saturation neon glowing outfits that burn your eyeballs out. It's "easy" for them to change it, but their lack of design knowledge and taste won't encourage them. There are plenty of people already that are using ai tools and getting generally terrible outputs, but still using them anyway, because they don't have the design sense to know when something is bad. There have been color palette generators for eons, but for someone to choose the first palette an app spits out is naive and often leads to a horrible look.

Current generative AI more regurgitative than it is generative. Design uses some regurgitation but it’s job is to move forward. AI is backwards looking because it’s based on historical data.

Framer != Figma I think. Figma whose lifecycle design of both static and dynamic website, and webapp, etc. which designers have to deliver to developers to build. Figma btw can do a lot o other things as well like icons, etc. I think people will keep using Figma for what it is, and who ever wants to generate quick landing page will go for Framer.

3 problems with AI that I have noticed: 1. lets get this outta the way first... increased maintenance for a program that works off a past dataset. someone has to make the AI and dataset first 2. copyright, the old beast. do you really think most media companies are going to want AI to succeed when their IP is on the line? yeah, didn't think so 3. finally the final bit as I hinted in "1" it works off *the past, not the present* and *kit-bashes content* from before. if AI could "make" instead of combine... then I would be more supportive... but currently I don't see it being useful past kit-bashing common things together. but creation is still only within the human domain for now. Hope you have a great day & Safe Travels!

It's just like we're looking at EV cars, whilst combustion engines are still at 23-30, 40% efficiency if you're on a really good car - then we create another problem while thinking it's a solution, without considering increasing the efficiency of the engine, or the cost of mining to the environment etc. Heck, solar panels are just about 15-20% max efficiency; imagine at 100%. I felt that there was just a movement out there who was pulling us all by strings like a puppet. Web design, AI are all suffering from the same trends BS. Focus on the art, and produce more great things. These AI can't generate shit without your brain anyway - regardless of what the mainstream media made you fear, 80% of the world still relies on Excel sheets.
