This area needs to be protected from any further development! Developing next to the water reservoir is dangerous not only for people but the wildlife as well! Sandy Lake is such an important wildlife corridor. There are endangered wildlife and plant species. The water is clean and fresh. We are seeing salmon in the lake as they travel through the newly cleaned rivers and creeks in the Sackville river system. I agree that we need housing but developing 6000 units for this beautiful Park is going to destroy everything that is necessary for wildlife fish and people alike! We need to protect all the boundaries of Sandy Lake to prevent further damage to its ecosystems. I have learned that we should not longer address it is an old growth Acadian forest. The Mi’kmaw were there long before Acadians.

There are 86 acres at Shannon Park in Halifax that can be developed up to provide affordable housing in HRM, leaving Sandy Lake still what it is biodiverse and pristine. This is where the government should be looking at developing, not places like Sandy Lake.
