What are some spiritual customs or traditions in your country? Một số phong tục hoặc truyền thống tâm linh ở đất nước của bạn là gì?

It really sounds like a great place to visit and maybe settle down to live and dive deep to get to know the culture and people and learn the language. I love that it’s becoming a melting pot for people around the world to come and explore Vietnam, and share their experiences with each other. 😊❤🙏

Fyi, paper burning rooted from Taoism & local beliefs in the past. the guest is absolutely correct, in Buddhism they advised us not to burn them paper too much cuz it affects the environment and our mental states a lot.

Do not eat eggs before an exam. Egg = zero score. To all the guys out there, Viet and also foreigners. If your relationship with your ladyfriend has progressed to the point where you get invited to her parents' home, and you see an ancestor's altar and an altar for Buddha when you enter, you should immediately ask for six sticks of incense. Light up the incense, make three standing bows to the Buddha and four (careful FOUR, not three) standing bows to honor the ancestors of the family and place the incense sticks in the incense bowls, 3 sticks for Buddha, 3 sticks for ancestors. Your chances of acceptance just got x100 times higher.

Jade Pagoda in D1 is more like a place to practice Taoism than a Buddhist temple (North/South branches), just to let you know.

Seems like all religions have a few things in common

Every religion is the same…believing in something greater than yourself, and hoping that something will have your back. Respecting your ancestors (same difference as being grateful to the people that have paved the way for you). I can’t believe that she actually said “it’s not scientifically proven” She’s talking out of both sides of her mouth. With that said, I think you have great topic here, and it’s worth another interview (from a historian, an elder maybe?, no disrespect intended…guess I am talking out of both sides of my mouth here).

Thank you for your feedback. I understand that spirituality can be a deeply personal and complex topic, and I appreciate the different perspectives. Regarding the point about joss paper burning, my intention was not to discredit spirituality as a whole. As a follower of Buddhism, I hold deep respect for spiritual practices. In original Buddhism, which aligns with many scientific principles, joss paper burning is not practiced because it poses significant environmental concerns and can lead to fire accidents. My aim was simply to raise awareness about these specific issues, hoping to encourage safer and more environmentally friendly practices. It's worth noting that many Vietnamese people have also been promoting the avoidance of joss paper burning. This issue is addressed in national television comedy shows, including those on national TV channels HTV7 and HTV9, and even in seasonal comedy during Tết holiday. Additionally, the information I have shared is sourced from a Ph.D. in history, Buddhism, Vietnamese studies, and international studies, who is from Generation X. I agree that interviewing historians and elders could provide more comprehensive insights, though I believe many of them may share a similar opinion. Thank you again for your thoughtful comments.

With the argument that this topic should be shared by a historian or elder, from the perspective of a Vietnamese person, I do not agree. Because not only old people or historians understand the nation's spiritual culture, but young people like us should and must know it too. Because it is associated with our lives and young people have the responsibility to maintain and promote traditional things. Besides, young people's sharing will be easier to reach people because it is more friendly and easier to understand. It is sharing not learning. Ty.

That was really interesting. I heard that Vietnamese women, if they're dating a guy and I find someone else making a little bit more money, they will date them and leave the guy that they're with. Is this true and Include marriage, in other words, if they're married to a guy, will they leave their husband for someone? That's is making a little bit more money. I also heard that they have a term in Vietnamese where they call their husband Big Brother. These are things that I'd like to find out if it's true.

We have this and that everywhere right? It depends on the person, the greedy ones might leave but in my experience, most Vietnamese women after their marriage are very loyal and dedicated. They even try to bear their unhappy or abusive marriage for the sake of their kids

That's called a gold digger and exists everywhere in the world. I've been with my wife for over 20 years from super poor. Race doesn't determine who a person is.

There are good and bad women everywhere in the world . However the percentage of divorce for financial reasons in the west is much higher than in Vietnam . People in the west are in general more greedy than here and adultery is very common over there as well . If you date with a bar , massage girl and prostitute what you heard about could be true because those sex workers always sell their body to most paying customer . Women from good and conservative families rarely date with foreigners (especially westerners ) because for them it's against their education and tradition . Only girls from low social class would go out or get married with foreigners . During the American war the women who dated with the American GIs were despised by the rest of the Vietnamese society and their biracial children were discriminated as well . They were scornfully called Me My and Con Lai .

Hey Skye, and to anyone that's reading, I was wondering if you could please address the hate video where Theo Von says he would eat a vietnamese person. As a Vietnamese American I have experienced so much hate in this world that I'm just going crazy. Not a single person chose to be born as who they were born as, yet others feel the need to put down and bash others down, to dehumanize them and say they would eat people from a specific ethnic group. I was just wondering if you could spread the word and bring the awareness to such hate. Thank you!

Spirituality is a VERY fuzzy term. Really it doesn't mean anything. It's a new age term, hollow and empty!!!!
