You can “tailgate” from the trunk of you car too. I’ve see some really incredible setups from when I used to travel for work. I had coworkers that have a full set up and cooked dinner every night in the parking lot of the hotel instead of going to a restaurant. Sometimes we’d all go and make it a picnic. It’s not unusual to see people doing it at the beach or in the mountains.

Tailgating is popular at games, especially football. But people tailgate all the time, at beaches, parks, campouts, whatever sort of outdoor party a bunch of people want to just throw together. You toss a grill and coolers with food and drinks, maybe some chairs, into the back of the truck or car and go. Then you grill on the open tailgate, drink, party, have a grand old time. People used to do it at drive-in theaters, too. Now it's mostly just in the parking lots before games, but you can tailgate anywhere, really.

I love Thanksgiving and Christmas! Thanksgiving kind of kicks off the Christmas season. Thanksgiving has unique things about it and it’s about being thankful to God for all we have, being with family and friends, eating great food, watching football on tv, etc. Christmas is also unique and is also a time to be with family and friends and it’s about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and of course eating some great food, maybe exchanging gifts, playing games, reminiscing about family memories, etc. and then Christmas ushers in the New Year and again another reason to thank God for seeing you through to a New Year and asking God to bless you, your family and Country in the New Year. Then right around the corner is Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and then Easter where we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and spend the day with family and friends, eating great food and the little ones hunt for Easter Eggs. ❤ Christmas is my favorite holiday because it’s just a peaceful and happy time and there really is a lot of “good will towards men” as the Christmas song says, at that time of year. It just seems like people are extra nice to each other and people are more in a giving mood to help others more than usual. People volunteer more at Food Pantries and Soup Kitchen’s and homeless shelters, give money to the poor or pay people’s water bills/power bills that are struggling or pay for someone’s gas that pulls up next to them at the pump, etc. during that time of year. It’s a special time of year like no other, that’s for sure. ❤

Masses of people shop on Black Friday looking for big deals for Christmas gifts. I know that Black Friday is also observed throughout the EU and elsewhere. But perhaps as crazy as in the United States. It is called Black Friday because most major retailers put their yearly earnings in the black with the sheer volume of sales on Black Friday.

Tailgating is having a picnic/cookout in a parking lot before a sporting event. It used to be a southern thing, probably because the weather is warmer in the winter. But, it has spread throughout the US. You have to be really tough to tailgate in Green Bay or Buffalo, lol. (See below. The some of the above is wrong.) One fall my parents visited Texas, they insisted on going to a museum in College Station, TX, where Texas A&M (the Aggies) is located. We got there the night before a game. Surrounding the stadium were acres and acres of parking lots full of RV's. Every Aggie with a heartbeat and a few that didn't have one were there. It seemed like every one of them had a grill and/or smoker out front. A miasma of charcoal, mesquite and post oak smoke hung over the entire scene. Everyone had an ice chest full of Shiner and Lone Star beers. Even Buc-ee's wouldn't have had enough ice cubes for this, lol. If you want to see tailgating, come to Texas in the fall. College football is your best bet. Every weekend from late August to Thanksgiving will have a home college football game somewhere in the state. Show up early, be friendly and probably someone will invite you join them.

The first tailgate took place Nov. 6, 1869. That day, the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton University) and Rutgers University met in what is considered the first recorded game of American football, and fans partook in a party that accompanied the contest. And there are Tailgates all over the country, The oldest conference The Big Ten (established in 1896) The Big Ten conference is considered to have some of the biggest tailgating scenes in college football. So I don't know where you are getting your info, football was born in the Midwest/Northeast and was and is still huge, and unlike the southern conferences, the Big Ten fanbases travels well, especially The Ohio State Buckeye fans. All that said, all tailgates are a big deal, no one is better than any other one, now talking about Pro Football, Dallas is my favorite team (since I was a kid) but I live in Ohio and have only been to Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals tailgates and both are huge, so I would guess that all Pro Teams have huge tailgates, it is pointless to say one is bigger then the other unless you have been to all tailgates for all teams.

My Thanksgiving was always more traditional, with the family (and some close friends) all traveling and coming together to spend the day together, and sitting down for a ridiculously large dinner at an extended long table. Football games were always on, and food preparation was shared as different side dishes and desserts were brought by everyone. For me, however, I have lost 5 members of my immediate family in the last three years, and my kids are now grown. The memories of the family all being together and celebrating are some of my fondest memories. Now, we are a much smaller group, as my daughter is a nurse in a hospital and will be working, and my son and his wife will join us for dessert. Maybe Thanksgiving will be more festive again once my kids have kids of their own. For now, I just enjoy a quieter small dinner, but it will have all my requirements of a large turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes. cranberry sauce, string bean casserole. lol Of course there must be desserts of apple pie, pumpkin pie and cheesecake, to name a few. It is a holiday that reminds us to be thankful for our family, friends, food and more. It is a day to reflect, and now for me to remember. Christmas, on the other hand, is a religious holiday, and not everyone celebrates the day. However, Christmas has become so commercialized, that I think it gets celebrated from the day after Thanksgiving through the actual holiday on December 25th. and beyond. Christmas Day is usually celebrated similarly to Thanksgiving, but with presents, so it is a particularly big day for the kids. As for Tailgating, you don't have to own a truck. Many people set up tables and chairs anyway. The best part of tailgating before a game (for me it has been hockey games), is the camaraderie of the fans. You can walk around and join in other fans' games and food, or just enjoy meeting new people and great conversation.

Tailgating started in the first years of the NFL. Most of the teams were in what is now known as the "rust belt", the highly blue collar industrialized cities in the Midwest, Great Lakes Region, and into the East. The fans were blue collar or farmers and the stadiums were rudimentary, without concessions, and could hold maybe 4-5000 people. Fans who went to the games would drive hours and need to eat something before the game so they picnicked out of the trunk of the car or the back of the pickup truck (the "tailgate"). It became tradition even after concessions were offered.

Thanksgiving is loved equally in America as Christmas by most people but for different reasons. Thanksgiving doesn't have a set date like most holidays but instead happens on the fourth Thursday of November.

I moved from the north to the south just as Dolly's song 'I Will Always Love You' came out. I met a neighbor who asked me did I like their country music, I said I really wasn't familiar with it at all, but there was one song I heard and really liked, and when I told her what the was she said, "Oh, that's Dolly ... everyone loves Dolly." So true.

I love both Thanksgiving and Christmas but Christmas brings me a peaceful feeling in my heart. Thanksgiving kicks off my Christmas spirit and Christmas brings the entire season of giving to a crescendo.

Same! Thanksgiving is a great day, with great food and spending time with family. But Christmas feels more.. peaceful and solemn than Thanksgiving.

Tailgating is SO FUN. My dad would take me to the tailgate parties at the University of Maryland football games. There's so much food, dancing, music, drinks, games, all of it. People are SO friendly and they like sharing their treats with other people. I cannot TELL YOU how fun it is. And yes, miss Dolly Parton is an angel and must be protected at all costs.

If you want to enjoy a tailgating experience. Go to Kansas City or Buffalo. I'm biased. So, I'll recommend KC but Buffalo isn't bad.
@causticchameleon7861Ай бұрын
My kids high school did tailgating too. End of day bell would ring at school and as the kids left, the grownups would arrive and start setting up for tailgating for that night’s football game or Saturdays football game.

Some answers to some of your questions. 1. Little kids prefer xmas presents. But don't try to make adults decide. We like both. 2. Tailgating is extremely popular amonst sports fans, especially Football fans. Every NFL Sunday there are around 1/2 a million tailgators. On College football Saturdays there are around 1 million people tailgating. 3. Tailgating refers to a truck's tail gate. That's the back piece of truck bed that folds down when you need to add or remove things from the truck bed. So trucks are helpful for portable parties. but not required. 4. When tailgating, some groups are more insular than others. You can go alone and meet lots of new friends and have a blast, but don't be offended if a group isn't super welcoming. just move on. Sometimes it's a specific group who do it every year like a reunion for Math Majors class of 1987 or whatever. They are there to catch up with each other. But most tailgators are just having fun and would love to meet new people. just don't be a jerk and it's great fun.

Viewer from Texas here!! I’ve been teaching your channel for quite a while and I really enjoy it. If you do plan to come to Texas, I recommend coming to Houston in the museum district! Or, at the very least, please watch a video reaction of the museums we have here in Houston! We’ve got the Houston Zoo, The Aquarium, The Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science, Space Center Houston, The Children’s Museum, all sorts of cool stuff!!

People tailgate before sporting events, concerts, basically any large event is open for tailgating. You do not need a pickup truck. We would pack up a grill, coolers, chairs, a table, and go to the Kansas City Chiefs games to tailgate. We would arrive in the parking lot about 4 hours before game-time and drink, grill hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, wurst, heck almost anything. Lots of beer was consumed. We would tailgate in the sun, wind, rain, and snow - nothing stopped us from enjoying our hometown team! (Even though back then, they lost more than they won.) There was one group that did not have tickets for the Chiefs games, but they paid to park in the lot and would drag out a couch, floor lamps, a coffee table, a rug, a large television, and a portable power generator. They would cook their dinner and sit in the parking lot watching the game on their big screen TV. It was hilarious to see these people, but they absolutely loved the atmosphere around Arrowhead Stadium. (The air would be thick with smoke from all of the grills in the parking lots - it would actually drift over the stadium and it took about 1/4 of the game for the smoke to clear depending on the amount of wind.)

For USC Football Games we tailgate at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Tailgating is an all day event (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Fans go all out with their tailgating setup. Some fans bring their big RV’s (recreational vehicles). It’s loads of fun.

Tailgating is a big street party outside of an athletic stadium. Mostly American football, but not necessarily. Pro stadiums are ususally in parking lots, but many college stadiums are in residential neighborhoods so you are in people's yards ( you pay the homeowner for the space). As for the pickups- government regulations exclude trucks from milage requirements, so they are highly marketed and very popular.
@pageribe23994 күн бұрын
An SUV works really well for tailgating. The whole event is a great big party in the parking lot before a football game or a concert. People go all out; many set up grills for steak, burgers, etc. Naturally, there's lots of booze. So much fun.

Dallas TX, at a Professional Football Game. The game is preceded by fans gathering before the game with a tailgate lunch behind their cars or trucks and today it is the Holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday to thank God for his continued blessing of our country which normally is spent at home with family and friends.

The best part about tailgating is everyone shares food and drinks and games. That was corn hole they were playing. You throw bean bags into the holes for points. Everyone in America knows Dolly Parton. She is an American icon, we love her.
@eileenmiller4685Ай бұрын
Even people who don't like country music know Dolly. She is a national treasure. She donates thousands of books to children every year to promote literacy, and she also gives a lot of money to other causes as well. She just donated $2 million to hurricane Helene victims, and a few years ago, she also donated millions to help people rebuild after wildfires in East Tennessee. She's also an accomplished songwriter with many of her songs being sung by other artists outside of the country music genre. One song she wrote that most people have heard is "I Will Always Love You". She does her own version of it, but the most famous version was sung by Whitney Houston. She was actually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago due to her songwriting...and immediately produced a rock album, because she thought it was crazy to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and have never sung anything in the genre. :D She got together with some pretty famous Rock artists to make the album. :D She's awesome! When you react to her, I highly recommend the song Jolene! It's hilarious, and one of her best known songs! I'm not a country fan and I like that one. :D

Tailgating refers to the tailgate of a pick up PT used to bring their lawn furniture, there, charcoal grills, and the kegs of beer to the football game and then pick up Bill park in the parking lot open up the tailgate unpack, and set up a little picnic area and that was called tailgate. He can be done with cars or anything else but it originated from a pick up truck in Minnesota.
@louislitz2839Ай бұрын
The tailgate is the back "door" of a pick up truck. when down it becomes a table to cook and serve food off of just sit on like a bench. Hence the term tailgating.

That weather in november in TX is normal... The NORTHERN states, often have snow
@cathyvickers9063Ай бұрын
This is what I've gleaned from various sources: in the UK, sports stadiums are in cities, so there are restaurants & bars all around the stadium. But with America's car culture, stadiums & their massive parking lots are often far from dining establishments, meaning there's nowhere to hang out & relax before the start of the game. So tailgating makes up for that. Families bring coolers full of drinks & portable grills; & the fans who show up closer to game time mingle eat & drink with the earlier group. Your confusion reminds me of an episode of a cooking competition on BRAVO several years ago. Usually, American chefs competed against each other, but that season we had a French chef, to his detriment when football season came around. The challenge the chefs faced was to create a dish suitable for a tailgate. While the American contestants cheered, he was so clueless he thought they'd be cooking on actual tailgates! And when their vans brought them to the venue, he was dumbfounded there were other people already cooking food! The food challenge was not just against his fellow contestants,, but against the season ticket holders & professional tailgaters to draw people over by the smell of their food. Don't think he did so well that contest.

For eight years I was a scouter -- an adult leader of a Boy Scout Troop -- and part of the support structure that made us one of the camping-est troops in the council--we generally placed first for days camped per annum, for we always had a camping weekend when Massachusetts school vacations began for the TGing holiday week. The weekend before we'd have the parents (esp. the mother's) in on Saturday afternoon for a traditional Thanksgiving feast complete with sweet & Mashed potatoes, gravy, proper cranberries, sausage-stuffing, Cherry, Apple, and Pumpkin pies (cooked in dutch ovens on coals like a pioneer wife!) and headed by 2-3 large turkeys slow roasted over the troops camp fire... Special memories, and FANTASTIC tasting turkey.

Thanksgiving is celebrated in the households of everyone I have ever known. We always pray for those who are not as fortunate as we are and enjoy basically the same meal all over the country. Lots of variations in side dishes added on. Here in Clearwater, FL, it’s almost always very warm (today it was 86 deg) and most of the time very sunny. It starts cooling down in about January and gets in the low 50s but during the day it hits about 70, and the humidity goes down so it is gorgeous weather!
@TDoubleDubАй бұрын
It got it's name from the back OF a pickup, but it's moved on from that. The rear door to the open back is called a "tailgate". It was designed to be a way to cookout without needing extensive cleanup. It culturally grew to an enormously extravagant event that usually turns more into a stationary parade of food. Tailgates parties can be some of the most fun you'll have, sometimes better than the event you went to. Edit: the game at the beginning is "Cornhole", a game similar in premise and operation to horse shoe tossing.
@kata7628Ай бұрын
Nah you can tailgate with any kind of car, but this mostly a southern thing, and revolves around waiting for a football game.

Thanksgiving is less commercialized. Christmas is crazy here & we all love it. I celebrate a Winter Solstice Dinner every year, pick a country & make a meal from their cuisine. I nice little before the busy Christmas Day. Independence Day is my favorite holiday.

A tailgating party is a social gathering in which food and drinks are served at or near the back end of a parked vehicle (such as a pickup truck) that usually occurs in a parking lot before or after a public event (such as a football game or concert). Trucks are not mandatory. I've seen tailgate parties happen out of cars, SUVs and vans as well. You just need food, drink, vehicles, a parking lot, people and to be outside of an event.
@taustin6524Ай бұрын
Thanksgiving is definitely my favorite. It’s relatively low key compared to Christmas. It’s about family, friends, food and football. Texas in November usually has decent weather but up North could be very chilly indeed and might even have snow already. We don’t tailgate at Thanksgiving but gather at someone’s house and everyone brings a dish to contribute to a literal feast. We pitch horseshoes and corn hole (google them) as well as watch football.

Thanksgiving is the beginning of the Christmas season, for a lot of people. Some start sooner, but lots of families put up their Christmas trees on Thanksgiving night, and Black Friday is considered the start of the Christmas shopping season, even though some people start buying Christmas presents in June or July. The day after Thanksgiving is the earliest date for radio stations to switch over to Christmas music exclusively, if they do that, but they might wait until December 1st. It’s the start of the holiday season.
