Just picked up a barista touch at bed bath and beyond’s going out of business sale for 650. I’ve got to say, coming from having no background in espresso, it performs impeccably. The automation and intuitive ease of use make this machine something my family is happy to use first thing in the morning. The auto steamer is a game changer that I’m not sure I can ever backtrack from. We love it

Thanks for the good briefing on various types of Breville models. Temperature control is also one of the critical feature which is good to have. I owned a Bambino Plus, I had assessed its brewing temperature which is relatively lower than i had anticipated. As a general practice, I need to flush out at least 1-2 times before starting the actual brewing. Because the 1st flush temp is about 82-85C, 2nd flush is about 88 to 90C, 3rd flush is about 90-95C. If you are very particular about the brewing temp, then you need to flush out 2 times first. However, these steps will reduce the thermojet lifespan. If you are not so particular about the temp, then Breville is just fine for you.

Just got the express impress with the cyber week sale. The assisted tamping isn’t just about tamping, it’s about taking one big thing out of the “dial in” equation. The slower boiler is probably a good starting point for me even though it might not have the most robust temperature stability. I’ve heard you just heat up the portafilter first and that should go a long way.

The oracle touch has alot of problems with heating up after descaling. It is a very common issue. I have the oracle for 1,5 year. Descaled it every 6 weeks as recommended. After a year I had the first issue with heating and internal leakage. Send it for repair amd was fixed. Advice to descale more often. Ok every 4 weeks. Now 5 months later, after descaling again issue with heating. So it sucks. Because this big machine was expensive. I still have waranty for about 6 months but the fact it keeps hapening sucks because it will happen after warranty.

This is a great video but I’m still not sure!! My delonghi magnifica has just packed in and is going back to delonghi so I’m torn between a bambino plus with a separate grinder or the touch. I assume the touch is a big step up from my delonghi? I’d love to think I have time to create delicious coffee every morning but I just don’t which is why I’m taken towards the touch over the bambino plus. Thoughts?
@craftcoffeespot
@craftcoffeespot 5 ай бұрын
I think you’ll really like the Touch - steam wand is excellent, you can really customize the milk. I’ve used a DeLonghi Magnifica and it makes nice espresso, and expect a short learning curve for either Breville, but you’ll be really happy with the Touch for lattes, and you won’t need to buy two appliances. If you’re just doing espresso/Americano, Bambino Plus and Encore ESP grinder is not that hard, but you will need a scale to weigh out your coffee dose though. Milk frothing on the Touch is 💯 imo.

The Touch Impress will get you really close to an Oracle. I was comparing the Bambino vs Dual Boiler head-to-head and the espresso is not that far off. Dual Boiler is better, but Thermojet is quite good. (Might be another video comparison 🙃). The Touch steam wand is def better than the Bambino Plus too. Also, underrated how long Brevilles can last if well maintained. My Bambino runs like a champ.

Yes, it is. Lot of control and better flavor. Really dry steam for a good milk. But, a better grinder will have more impact than the dual boiler. The ThermoJet is still really good, maybe 80% the quality of a dual boiler (and it’s a lot cheaper). So, look into a good espresso grinder first. I appreciate the time you take on reviews. However, after thinking things through more I have to say that integrating a grinder into the coffee maker has more drawbacks then benefits. First the quality of the integrated grinders is lower than some reasonably priced grinders out there. In fact most reviewer mention that the grinder is the first thing you will upgrade, leaving you with an expresso maker with a very large footprint in your kitchen. Second, keeping them separate keeps future upgrade prices lower since you only need to upgrade one or them. Third if the grinder on the all in one unit breaks (not likely that you will get this repaired or at least good luck doing that) you are again stuck with buying another grinder and having a very big coffee maker. Fourth, it's hard to see how an integrated grinder makes things all that much simpler. I suppose that fact that you can plug the portafilter directly in is nice but it's not all that hard to take measured ground coffee out of a container and put it into a portafilter. It's maybe 10-30 seconds of time. So, while it's sounds nice to have it all in one, it just seems like they either need to put a grinder in there that is as good as any other expresso grinder or just keep them separate. I'd rather they stay separate and they spent more time making all the components and materials just slightly higher in quality so they last longer and are easier to maintain.

In a home I do not see any advantage whatsoever for a dual boiler espresso machine. Even in a house full party with 30 or 40 people. I've never had to worry about a line of people waiting for espresso or cappuccino or whatever. So that argument is totally BS. I'm not saying don't buy one. Not to mention having your espresso machine warm up for 20 minutes plus is simply for a home a little bit on the goofy side, but I get people including myself can be goofy about that. I'm just putting it out there that there's a reality and then there's what we want. If you're talking about speed .. the Barista Touch is ready in a matter of 3 seconds. As far as the head, portafilter and even your cup temperatures, I can run water through it and my portafilter for about 2-4 seconds .. BINGO, wipe dry, dose and grind and have your puck prep done in under 30 seconds. For the 30 seconds that your espresso is brewing .. go to the refrigerator and ready your milk and put it back in the refrigerator. I seriously doubt that you're wasting time at this point. Then you can finish and clean in another 20 seconds and turn off your Touch. What I also like about it is there's no way in hell that you're going to get the temperature as accurate as 'palming it' with your guesstimate hand 'feeling' temperatures, as it does this very consistently. The biggest thing that changes the taste more than anything, besides grinding, is puck prep. Those automatic prep only tamp and can detect ground levels on some models .. I always weigh out my coffee beans and WDT which is absolutely something none of these machines can do. Bottom line on the Barista Touch I can make better espresso because I care about my results then I get from going to even my best coffee shop. Beyond that, it's like an audiophile going down the rabbit hole and spending silly amounts of money with 1% or maybe a whole whopping 3% return for an additional $2,000. For some they couldn't care less, for 99% they do. Instead, spend your money on better coffee beans with a much higher ROI!!!

Your complaining the thermocoil is dated when the most common system the boiler as used on the most expensive coffee machines was on the patent for the improved espresso machine in 1901. 🤣🤣🤡🤡

the BDB came out before all of these machies so calling the heating system "entirely new" is patently false and straightup marketing hooey from Breville.

You got me on the syntax, but no doubt the dual boiler is a better heating system than thermocoils. They did refresh the BDB too.

@@craftcoffeespot thermocoils and thermoblock heating systems are better choices for non enthusiasts. BDBs had its place in the espresso market but there are bar better machines I’m in the price range made it pretty much an obsolete choice for discriminating home enthusiasts. Better is a highly subjective term anyway. I’d be hard pressed to recommend the BDB for anyone who wants great espresso with little fuss. And don’t be so easy to rule out thermoblock and thermocoil-based heating systems. I owned a Welhome KD-310VPS that used a triple thermoblock heating system that offered the ability to brew and steam at the same time. And the steam performance was on par with prosumer boiler espresso machines.

@@craftcoffeespot well better is a subjective term. It might be better performing but not where it matters for the market they are targeting. Thermocoils and thermoblocks offer a far more efficient and less fussy home experience.

Breville Barista Touch .. is something that I've highly recommended to all of our friends who have multiple coffee lovers in their home with various skill levels. Not everyone wants to make a hobby out of making espresso. My recommend add-ons: 1. $32 GeeAnkok's Premium 54mm Naked Bottomless Portafilter. 2. $43 Normcore V4 Coffee Tamper 53.3mm - Spring-loaded Tamper 3. $28 IMS Precision (1TH23) 18-22 g filter basket B62.52TH28E compatible with 54mm Breville 4. $59 TIMEMORE 2022 New Version Digital Espresso Coffee Scales (or a newer version) 5. $22 Crema Coffee Products | 54mm Espresso Dosing Funnel 6. $36 Normcore WDT Distribution Tool V2.1 with Stand - 0.23mm 8 Prong Espresso Distribution Tool (the holder makes it nice) _7. ($99) St. Anthony's .. The Bloc Espresso Knock Box + Tamp Station_ _The Saint Anthony's tamp station to me is a beautiful thing, but it depends upon your accessories. I have distribution tools that it didn't list that look nice in it along with that calibrated tamper. It also includes a stainless steel knock station, but if you're making a lot of espresso obviously it's going to be too small for that purpose._ Clearly if you're a hobbyist then the sky's the limit. I'd say for the hobbyist I would spend at least $300 on a grinder if not $500. And I probably would spend $2,000 on an espresso machine that has a 58 mm standard portafilter. A Decent espresso machine is a great thing for the techie. I like some of the commercial or quasi commercial grinders including those that can detect exact distances of their grinding platforms. Example Mahlkönig’s DDD technology.

.. a technique that I've learned and has served me well is using that funnel that I described above is to move the portafilter in a circular fashion making certain that the grounds are as evenly distributed as possible while grinding into the portafilter. Then WDT from the bottom up and optionally with a distributor to smooth out the surface and then finally with a calibrated tamper finish. It's served me well and it's super easy.
