Thanks. Profiler: Measures what the entire amp does between input and speaker and emulates the entire thing including all your settings like gain and EQ. Advantage is you can copy your amps settings or buy someone else's copied amps. Modeler: Individual components/sections are measure and combined piece by piece. The advantage is you can change any settings and it will behave as the tube amp does. Also they usually have lot's of effects pedals built-in. Both can be very useful depending on your needs. If you are a new player and don't have a bunch of tube amps to copy, a modeler will probably give you more bang for your buck.

Nowadays some amps also have a Bluetooth connection which can be useful if you’re playing at home and want to jam along with backing tracks, on your smartphone or tablet. I think this is a nice feature if you want to have fun while practicing. Nice video! Cheers

I am still trying to figure out the best amp for me. I've been figuring it out since my first $59 Silvertone that my mom bought me in 1965. It was solid state with a 10" speaker. Next amp was a 59 Champ. Then a Twin, etc, etc. I have a Vox hybrid that's a good modeling amp and a hot rod deluxe for real pure sound. You give a good description of the various types. Too many choices these days. New players spend more time on gear than on practice, and practicing is how you get good.

I know, there are so many choices out there.. I find myself constantly scrolling through gear online, when I should be practicing!

Rich Ratchford I think everyone does. I’m looking at tube amps now but want it for practicing at home. That’s a rabbit hole in itself.

For about $150 the Peavey Vypyr is really decent. Lots of great tones and effects and surprisingly loud if you want it to be.

It is a great amp! But all the settings can be overwhelming to beginners (I'm a beginner ahah, it was confusing)

Nice vid, but a suggestion for a future video would be to actually give a crash course of using the amp controls, volume, gain, eq, etc. etc.

As a beginner I would like to ask if I should for a combo amp or cheap amp and a guitar effect processor
@scottakam4 жыл бұрын
I say spend your money first to get a decent, playable guitar with a good set up. Once you have that, you can start pouring money into amps! ;)

I know you said your using broad strokes for the most part and I'm not trying to be the "UM ACTUALLY" guy in the comments but I just want to drive home from experience that in my loud ass touring rock band our guitar player exclusively used a 1×12 solid state fender mustang amp and it was plenty loud for any of the bars/clubs we played so I don't think "solid state being for bedroom use" is a good rule of thumb

As a part time musician, who plays once in a while, why not use cab sims like Amplitude. You get the amp, various cabinets, you can change the speakers in the cabs and move the microphones around. I won’t buy another amp. Software has finally caught up. Even better, I can pump that amp sound out to a PA.
@AaronB999994 жыл бұрын
I wonder though, a small guitar amp will often have a decent sounding speaker since it’s designed specifically for that purpose. I’m not sure if you’ll find that volume/quality of sound in a PA without spending some money. I would like to do what you described but haven’t done the work to figure out the best arrangement.

No good if you want to get on the beers and jam with friends though. However a fantastic option for strictly home based

You pay a monthly fee for cell phone apps verses not paying a monthly fee by owning an amp. In the long run over time the amp is a better use of your money, as you will still own an amp instead of cancelling a subscription to an app which leaves you with nothing left for the money you spent.

But in a gig, you are not going to go through your amp as the source to the audience, you are gong to go through a mixer so the mixer is the power, NOT your amp. I find that modeling maps are pretty good at low volume for sound reproduction but tube amps only seem to sound good at high volume. I don't know really, maybe I just don't get it and I've got a long way to go even though I've been playing over 50 years but not in a band LOL.

I recently bought a v30 crate amp and I think it sounds awesome. I showed it to my guitar teacher and he said what's awesome about it? I said I like the sound. He said I wouldn't waste my time on that amp. I said why not? He said they're not that popular! I said but I like it! He said try convincing others that it's awesome! I said I'm already convinced that's why I bought it. Then he proceeded to tell me that I'm not a musician and that musicians hear differently. What's the deal? Do you think he's being a dick? Or is he right?
