Keepass is dead easy to set up and if you keep the master p/w on a dedicated USB stick when you start it you just point to that to open it. Great video as usual, Leo.

Thank you very much Leo. After doing a bunch of research, it seems to be the best fit for this old man. From what I gather, it is simple, safe, easy and affordable. I truly appreciate your advice, information and really thankful for response to questions. JimE

I know most of what you mentioned were stand alone programs but at the end you did mention about the use of any reliable one is good. I use a security suite so I use the one in that suite. I do not use edge or windows for any of that, I do on occasion run the windows security though. My go to for years is Symantec, however sometimes now they can be a bit much or bloated. But still don't put 100% trust in any of them. Symantec or Norton may not be the best some even hate it, but it seems to work for me. I have tried others but always fall back to Norton, as I said been using it since the early years. With all the tools out there there are some that I put to use when needed. Like Malware bytes and another (can't think of the name right now) total something I think. This one is used to check files over all security programs, pretty cool tool. I don't quite use as much as I probably should more often but I do use them. The take away is always be on gaurd, pay attention, question everything and of course backup, backup, backup. Always have a plan of action ready when things go wrong, because they will. Thank you Leo!

I've used Norton since the late 90s (?). Lately though, ever since they got bought by LifeLock their up-selling has become tiresome. I'm still sticking with Norton because over all these years I've found their customer service better than the other crowd.

Liked, shared, subscribed and now looking forward to checking out your other content. I am a first time viewer, recently retired guy, starting my own e-commerce business. I found the content on this platform so helpful that I already consider myself a subscriber for life. Mr. Notenboom provided me with the information I needed to move forward intelligently, and he did so quickly, in plain language, presented in a manner that even I understood. Many thanks!

What about using Chrome password manager for convenience and site/app individual passwords + app/key authenticator for safety? Isnt that alternative safe enough? The convenience of the password manager in Chrome is so - well, convenient.

Hey Leo! Been in and out of your newsletter for 15 years and am a big fan. But I am curious on this issue. Given the LastPass hack, and the fact that presumably the data they kept was encrypted, why should I pick another cloud-based provider who can also be hacked? I am guessing this is a risk/hassle tradeoff from your perspective perhaps? I use Keepass because it stores all my data on my client machine, which adds a little bit of hassle between machines (and my phone), although the data file can be copied onto other machines and even my iPhone (with a little more nuisance factor on the phone). So I am choosing high security with more nuisance over some lesser level (although admittedly not way less... :). Is that the tradeoff you are thinking about or is there another lens to consider? Thanks for all of your work! Jim

Not all the data was encrypted (URLs for example were not). Bottom line: they've lost my trust. I have other articles and videos on the issue.

As always great wise content especially because it's based on personal experience, would really love if any main stream KZbinr review Stash Password Manager, the technology seems very intelligent but I haven't seen anybody on KZbin give it an honest independent review.

The one thing I like about Bitwarden, which LastPass also offered, was the re-prompt of the master password on any item in the vault. Does 1Password have this feature?

I’m having a hard time finding a password manager that lets you easily give access to heirs when you pass away. For 1password, you share your master key or print out the emergency kit and give it to them. Other digital estate planning services like goodwill allow for trusted people to get access after assigning them and showing proof of death. Any password managers that have a good solution to easily transition it when passing?
@askleonotenboom
@askleonotenboom 11 ай бұрын
BitWarden has a reasonable approach. You designate certain people (email addresses) as being authorized to request access. When they request access you're given a period of time to deny it. If you're not around they eventually get it.

That is if you for example, have a password for Amazon do you use the same Amazon password for the next 20 years or change it every six months to a new Amazon password. Or maybe even how often for the 1Password one.

@christianbarnay2499

@@askleonotenboom Unless you personally insulted a mafia lord, physically stolen password from a decent safe is a non-issue. Bad people who have the skills and resources to come to your home and open your safe make way better income with less hassle in online fraud. So they won't come to your home as long as there are enough easy targets lying around the Internet. A well insulated case and fire resistant support will easily mitigate fire risk.

Also physical attack leaves physical proof of wrongdoing, which in turn is a huge help for being informed of the situation and dealing with it before it becomes unrecoverable. While a successful cloud attack can go unnoticed and/or unannounced for years.
